N. - As someone over 40 with infertility, I just want to be sure that you are currently seeing a fertility specialist? Toni Weschler's book is aimed at young fertile people who are trying to conceive. You are past that. If you are over 40 it is likely you have either low ovarian reserve (few eggs) or diminished ovarian quality (not any good eggs). The chances of conceiving after 40 are VERY slim. Everyone has a story of some friend they knew who just had a baby at 42, but the reality is that after 40 most women cannot conceive. I think there is a 10 percent or less chance. After 42, it's slim to none with a six percent chance or less. So it is vital that you see a fertility specialist and have a fertility workup. Have you had your FSH tested? Have you done IVF and what were the results? At 41, you need to be VERY aggressive. On my support group I've seen women who went from an FSH of 8 to an FSH of 13 in six months. At 43, my RE told me that my chance of having a child with Down's was 1 in 25 - very high. I have since moved to donor egg. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.
