I go to Dr. Imram Baig at the Sam's Wholesale on Hwy 290 & West Rd. He's really nice, isn't expensive, and you don't need a Sam's membership.
Does anyone know of an optometrist who is good at doing an exam for contact lenses without breaking the bank since my insurance doesn't cover it?

I've been using the Sam's in The Woodlands for 3 yrs now, Dr. Li. It's easy to get an appt., you don't have to have a Sams card but I do buy all my contact there. They are the same price/if not cheaper as 1800Contacts, but you don't have to send in any rebate to get the price. I used to go to Todays Vision and Pearl Vision. On my 2nd year visit to Pearl, I think they raised the price significantly because I didn't buy all my contacts there.
I go to the Walmart Vision Center. They usually have a doctor there and the exams are reasonable.
I'm not sure if this will help at all since I have insurance, but I always take my family to the eye doctor adjacent to Sam's. (It's part of the same building, with a different access than their doors.) He has always been very affordable to me and usually gets me in with no waiting. After my last exam, he gave me 2 pair of contacts - the new, 90 day ones to "try out" and see if I like them (and so I don't have to buy them elsewhere since they were included in the price of the exam). I live in The Woodlands, though. Not sure where you live.
do you have regular medical insurance? sometimes they will cover an opthamologist (medical eye doctors). with my insurance it's just a specialist co-pay. i have never found an optometrist that i like but i know a couple of good opthamologists. the only thing is my insurance doesn't pay for the contacts.
Try Vision Source in pearland by krogers.
Walmart's are the cheapiest I found!!
I live downtown and I drive to the Sam's on 45S and Fuqua. The doctor's name is Linda Nguyen and she is great. Her prices are reasonable.
walmart and sam's both have eye dr. located on the outside of the store. they are usually the cheapest in the area. i haven't used any in this area yet, we just moved here recently, but i have been to eye dr. in several other cities. you do not have to be a sam's member to use the eye dr. or to buy contacts.
Dr Cheryl Jansen ###-###-#### I've been going to her since right out of high school and she is wonderful! She is in South Austin at Brodie/Wm Cannon.
Walmart is pretty cheap. They charge $80 for the exam and contacts depending on your prescription and brand of contacts you can get them for like $13+ a box.
Walmart is the cheapest I know of.
Costco is cheap and I don't think you have to be a member for the exam but I think you do to actually by the contacts.
I went to mine to get a contact exam because my insurance DOES pay for it and they said that it's the exact same exam as the regular. They looked at my prescription and gave me the ones they had in stock. I had an acuview coupon for them free. The catch was that they wanted $160 to show me how to use them, which the insurance DOESN'T pay for!!! I was so disgusted by the raquet I walked out, without my contacts because they refused to give them to me without the consult.
Look in the back of th yellow pages in the "green" section for coupons to Texas State Optical.
You can get specials for exam and contacts for about $150.
Before I had insurance (I go to TSO) I used to go to Sears. They are relatively inexpensive. If you have a Sears Card, you can pay-it-out if youre a little short on cash.

P.S. The other thing I always do,even now, is ask for all the free samples of saline solution that they will part with. Usualy the young gals that work at those places would slip you an extra if you are nice. I would also squirrel out a couple more when I would pick up the contacts a week later!!! Call me cheap!!!!
Call arond and as ho much they charge without insurance.
Wal-mart or any store like that will do eye exams and they are cheap.... my doctor told me to go there when I was transfering jobs and had to wait for insurance but needed a new check up. They did a good job and it was cheap! Good luck
I started going to an opthamologist after a friend told me that she went to one. My insurance didn't cover an optometrist unless I had special eye insurance, but my medical insurance covered the opthamologist. It might be worth looking into. Good luck!
I use Richard Briggs; but he is on Manchacach (probably mispelled). I used the doctor at Target on Lakeline and I definitely would not recommend him.
Usually your local super Walmart has an optomotrist and they do exams for contacts that is where I usually go and it runs about $80.00 for the contact and glasses exam. They won't do the exam for contacts unless you pay for the exam for glasses. Dumb I know but that's how they make their money. Good luck.

Wal-Mart. I have gone there everytime I need anything to do with my eyes and the only time I ever paid over $100 was when I got 6 sets of colored contacts. But I didn't have insurance (still don't) and I got the eye exam and lenses foe glasses for like $85. The frames were $70 but there are some cheaper than that, my mom helped me pay for those. I have gone to other places and spent about $200 and twice they didn't even get my prescription right. Wal-Mart is the best place I have gone to and from now on will be the only place I go to for eye stuff.
hi J.,
walmart was the lowest I found,
$75,
but costco may be cheaper.
(cheapest for lenses $14 box)
