This is just a stage, some children will run around naked, it just feels good to them. I would take advantage of it, and let him when it is safe and ok to do so, it might also help with potty training if he is not wearing a diaper. If he does make a mess, make him help you clean it up. It may take longer, but if he has to do some of the work, he may learn that it is not worth creating the problem. Good luck.

My son does that. He wears cloth diapers though. It took him a while to figure out the snaps on them. Once he did, we put them on backwards a couple of times until he forgot about it. We also let him have a bit of naked time to run around.

We have to replace the carpets as soon as we get a bit of money together. I'm thinking laminate flooring so that the messes are a bit easier to clean.

Also, maybe a strip of duct tape to secure the diaper.

My daughter is 23 months and does the exact same thing, has been as a matter of fact since 18 months. It has gotten so bad that it became a regular occurance that every morning and afternoon I was cleaning up poop. Well we found the only thing she could not figure out how to get off is a full zip-up fleece sleeper with a snap at the top over the top of the zipper. We also just transitioned her to a big girl bed so since she no longer is stuck in her crib when she wakes up, she can find something else to do instead of taking off her clothes. The next step in another week or two is potty training. I would suggest mabey the sleeper and the big boy bed for your son.
I'm sure it is just a tad too early to start the potty training for him.

My kids didn't do that but my neices did. I would put there diapers on backwards and when they figured that out I had to duct tape them on. They would get frustrated and move on to something else. But I only did that when I went somewhere that it wasn't appropriate for them to go nakey. I also took that time to introduce them to the potty and that video cartoon about potty training... Once Upon a potty there is a version for girls and version for boys. I tell you that video did wonders!
Good Luck!

Both my children have done this. We are still going thru it with my son who is 20 months. We buy the footed pjs that have a zipper on them cut the feet off and put them on our son backwards so that it zips in the back. That way he can't unzip them himself. I also use duct tape. Get a long piece and make sure it doesn't get on their skin and just wrap it around the flapps. Good Luck I know it's frustrating having to clean up their little messes. Have a great day!

S.,
This is a normal thing that most kids go through. In teaching at the day care, where I have 8 toddlers that are 16-24 months old, we see this all the time. My daughter, who is 20 months, is also in my class, so I am seeing this 24-7! What I have started doing with her is putting her diapers on backwards. She cant undo the tabs that way! When I am having a child at work that refuses to keep their cloths on, I use masking tape on their clothes and still put the diaper backwards. Have you thought about starting potty training? That is one of the signs that your little man may be ready to start, being able to remove their clothes on their own. My little girl started using the potty in my shower(when she was 14 months old)! lol She woke up one morning and told me that she was going "pee" and ran to my walk in shower. That was the sign I needed to know that she was ready...and is doing great(now she uses her own potty seat and not the shower). I would get him a little potty of his own and make sure it stays in the same place all the time, even if it is in the family room where you can see him. Maybe even put it in his favorite "potty spot". This may be the encouragement he needs to get on the right track. It is not to early to start showing him that he should be going on the potty, I have had kids in my class that were trained by the time they were 2. If he is showing this much dislike to being wet or dirty, what is it going to hurt to start him on the potty? :-)

Good luck!

Hi S.,

My son too love to take his clothes off, even his diaper. What I took it to mean is that he is ready to be potty trained. Also he may feel hot with the clothes he has on so he takes it off to cool off. Start potty training him and when at home put clothes on that are light and airy. Good Luck.

Hi S.,

We adopted my 10 year old when she was 18 months old. She would strip off her diaper in bed before everyone else got up! My first 2 kids never did this so I was at a loss. I had an older client tell me, "duct tape works wonders"! So I wrapped it around her waist a few times. Not near her skin of course. Worked like a charm. :)
