Help! My Daughter Wont Stop Taking off Her Diaper!!!

My 18 month DD takes her diaper off constantly. Every single morning & after each nap I have to change her soaking clothes & sheets. Even during waking hours she finds a way to get out of it. I have tried everything I can think of but her efforts are relentless. She is not ready to be potty trained & even if she was it wouldn't solve the sleeping issues. Has anyone else ever had this problem? I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Here is a list of what I have tried:

1. Always putting her in a onesie type "outfit" - usually one that snaps at the back of the neck & crotch. Often I put pants over it.

2. Pull-ups

3. Long underwear backwards.

4. Her diaper on backwards.

5. Pants that button, are tight, and or tie at waist.

This girl is Hoodini & can get out of anything!!! This is driving me crazy. For one I am tired of bathing her 4 times a day, washing sheets constantly & having her wear countless outfits each day. Also, on a superficial note - she has tons of cute clothes (like dresses) that she can't even wear. :( Any ideas for my nudist?? (She is usually buck naked when I go to get her up!)

Thanks Mamas!!

So What Happened?

THANK YOU ALL!!! Okay, I am so trying out the duct tape! My husband suggested t jokingly but I'd never considered it a viable option until now... Yay!! Hope springs eternal! I will let you all know how it goes. I also love the idea of potty training but we have a little potty & she just doesn't seem interested at all. She is a twin & they hardly even talk yet (other then twin speak) and I think she just does it to "do" something. She is extremely busy - always always always into something, a climber, and extremely mischevious - just a toot overall - LoL!!

*********************** UPDATE ***********************

Well, duct tape worked for one day :( By day 2 & everyday since I wake to her with tape around her tummy & the back stck on, but the front has been ripped away from the tape so her diaper is just hanging there like a mud flap. Today there were apporx 1 million raisen size poop pebbles thrown all over the room. Her twin brother is a real "monkey see, monkey do" but he is not as crafty or tenacious so the tape is working on him. I am now going to try safety pinning sleepers, but its hard to find non-winter zipper jammies & this is Phx so it's HOT!!! I also love the idea of the sleeper keeper - it sounds awesome, thanks so much for the link - but spending $50 on jammies right now is not really an option. Oh well! I will keep trying & keep a good attitude until something works or this disgusting habit is outgrown! ARGH! Thank you again for all of your input :)

I know this is a bit late, but you could try putting cutting the feet off of a sleeper and put it on backwards.

Thats what I had to do until my 18 month old stopped taking her diaper off. It worked pretty well. My fiance had suggested the duct taped too haha but I found a way around it.

Good luck!

My daughter does this and she is 2. We have to tape her diaper on her. I use masking tape or Duct tape. I know it sounds really funny. She still, on occasion, gets it off by ripping the diaper. It is the only thing that has helped us!!

Oversized one-piece zipper sleep on backwards at night.

Duct tape during the day. You can even get pretty colors :) I would't worry about her getting tangled in it at night or getting somein her mouth.

And for heaven sakes, tell her "No." Talk to her about. Don't just get frustrated, discipline her, kindly. For instance, "If you leave your diaper on for Mommy to change, then we will have time to read a book in the morning." or ""Oh, you took off your diaper? Yuk! Now we can't play any more."

I had two daycare kids that did this. Usually the onsie worked but I had a really smart 2 year old so finally what i found worked was put on a diaper/ put a thick pair of training pants over it, put her outfit back on and then put a one piece bathing suit over it( her wasa spedo racer back) and she could not get it off.! I was frustrated too bc she ruined 2 pack n plays and also the poo was often all over! GROSS

My daughter did that to me. She also painted with her poop a few times. I started potty training her and put her in trainers at 18 months. You may be surprised. Teach her about wet/dry, and where pee and poop go. Start putting her poop in the toilet and letting her flush.

Save for what you have already done, there really is not much you can do save for potty training her. I suppose you could buy some button cloth diapers for sleep time. Good brands: Fuzzi, Romparooz, Bum Genius.

I cannot recall what age Alex was when he went thru this fun phase, but all that worked was putting him in denim overalls backwards.
Sorry, not fun I know...

Maybe you should buy her a little toilet. When kids take off their diaper its usually a sign that they don't want to wear one anymore. I know she is only 18 mo. but it is possible.

Two words....duct tape! Tape the diaper with that and she won't be able to get it off. I've never had to use it, but I've heard lots of other people say it works like a charm! Just be sure it doesn't stick to her skin. Good luck!

Hi, don't fight it potty train-WOO-HOO! She's ready! Our daughter did that for a week after she turned 1, yes 1. I refused to clean that mess up any more than needed & duct tape wasn't an option- LOL. She was fully potty trained days in 2 weeks & nights in 3 weeks. She basically did it herself. Use regular potty training underwear and the plastic underwear on top. No drinks two hours before bed and if you happen to stay up late WAKE HER UP to go potty before you go to bed she'll probably be 1/2 asleep and jelly but she'll go. Don't try to use the snap in on the toilet till she's going #2 in the potty chair. Take her to the bathroom every time you go she can use her potty chair at the same time. Being a nudist makes potty training easier put the potty chair close to where she is most of the day. Or a dress and no bottoms the easier it is for her to "do it herself" the faster it'll go. Keep the run short 8 >). I'd worry about forcing her to stay in the diaper to long and then not being able to potty train when you're ready.
She's saving you money on diapers, water-laundry, clothes, time it's actually a good thing in the long run-LOL
Good luck

Sorry, I just can't resist saying (for my own amusement):

Put duct tape around the diaper (not her). Let's see her get out of that! If she does, video tape it for YouTube. :-)

Yes! Duct tape is the best way! All the way around the top of her diaper, twice! She will never get it off, keep the scissors close, you will need them to get her out! It worked for our little nudist!

Ah, the memories!

this is going to sound weird. maybe she doesn't like the feel of the diaper against her skin.

Try the following
1. Panties inside the diaper or pull-up
2. Try starting potty training. Either she'll take to it or she'll want the diapers back. Either way, you won't have more laundry to do than you do now.

This is a late response but I have a different suggestion than duct tape. I know exactly what you're going through! My son was about that age when he started getting naked and getting his poopy diaper all over the crib. Yuck! I tried all of the things you have tried including the duct tape and what ended up working was putting him in a zip-up sleeper and using a diaper safety pin through the zipper loop to keep him from pulling the zipper down. (The Gerber ones worked well.) My son couldn't figure out the diaper pin and lost interest in trying after about a week. :)

Our son did the same thing. We bought some snap one-size cloth diapers and that did the trick. We also started potty-training, and he is now fully potty trained at just 2. Good luck!
