2Yo Stripping at Night

my 2yo strips butt behind naked when she doesnt want to sleep or when she wakes up in the middle of the night and doesnt want to go back to sleep. this includes taking off her diaper and throwing it (no matter what is in it). thankfully the poop one landed poop side up lol (not that i would make her sleep in a poop diaper). its SOOOOOO frustrating. Many times there is nothing in her diaper. she shows no interest in potty training. she does this more out of frustration. ideas? i have tried putting her in a wool diaper cover with a onsie and light pants over her diaper just to keep it on. but she is a houdini and gets out of all of it. i have tried less clothing too but that just makes it faster for her to undress. we try to catch her fast, but at 3am its hard. and i cant just leave her naked cuz she would soil her bed. open to suggestions.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies (and dads if any answered). I went to the store and bought footed pjs and cut the feet out. I put them on her backwards. Then I went and found footless pjs at costco and she has been wearing them the proper way with no issues. The first two nights she was mad that she couldn't undress, but now she loves her "rocket ship" pjs. (would have bought two of those if i would have known...lol) I was not comfortable using duct tape. Didnt want to chance getting it on her skin or having a hard time getting it off when the time came. And I didnt want to chance ruining her clothes with the tape. Thank you for your ideas. She is NO WHERE NEAR ready to potty train. We tried and she cried on the potty. Not worth the tears in my opinion. But we are ALL sleeping once again! :)

I have heard of people putting zip up sleepers (without footies) on their child backwards, with the zipper in the back.

I would try "big girl" underwear over the diaper. She 's too Y. for toilet training but my 2 year old loves having anything "Big girl" like her older siblings. If they're cool enough (with princesses or Dora on them) she may keep them on. I think the mattress pad is a good idea too.

It sounds like this is a battle of wills. You mentioned she does this when she can't sleep or doesn't want to go back to sleep. I would change tactics: when she falls asleep, place a toy in her crib at night - something safe for her to have alone in the crib - a stuffed animal, a soft doll. The key is that the toy changes. When she wakes up at night, she has something "new" to cuddle and play with. It will distract her from removing her diaper.

Above all, try to stay patient: the more she knows this hits a button with you, the more she'll do it.

My friend was a nanny to a child who did this. They (she and the parents) had to wrap duct tape around the pajama pants. You put her in a onesie and pajama pants and then wrap the tape below the waist around the hips so it doesn't hurt her, but so she can't get the pants off. It's a heck of a lot better than cleaning poo off of her, the bed, and the walls in the middle of the night!

I had a child that would strip down naked just because especially at night. What we had to do was put electrical tape(or duct tape)across his diaper to prevent him from undoing it. Also, we had to put all the footie pajamas on backwards(we cut out the feet on quite a few pairs)and all of that would only deter him temporarily. He did figure out how to get out of the pajamas and even was able to get out of the diaper occasionally. Thankfully more often than not even if he stripped his clothes he would keep the taped diaper on. Eventually he outgrew the stripping off the diaper and being naked at night however it took a very long time in our case.

Best of luck.

Duct tape around the top.

And she's really young to work on potty training. It won't harm her to talk about it and take her to the bathroom with you to be an example but as for "go sit on the potty and produce pee and/or Pooh" that's not something she sounds old enough for.

I like what Marda said...using a waterproof mattress pad.

She must just like to feel free & comfy. She's not trying to make things hard on you. This stage will pass.

I second the putting on zippered sleepers on backwards. My friend's kid did that and that was what worked for her.

Toilet training. Two is plenty old enough. Half of the world's children are trained by 12 months. In this country (prior to disposable diapers) the average age kids were trained (as in done, not just starting) was 18 months. Then if she wants to sleep in the nude - more power to her.

I totally disagree with the duct tape. I don't think that is a good solution at all. try pull-ups. She obviously doesn't like to be soiled while she sleeps, so you may need to try potty training if she's interested.

I wonder if she is doing this in part to get your attention? I suggest putting a water proof pad down and ignore her.
