Hi Everyone

I have a small problem and I was hoping other mommies out there can give me some advice. MY 31 month old is having problems with her 5 point harness carseat. The shoulder straps fit her fine but the crotch strap is starting to get TOO TIGHT on her down there. With the crotch strap part there is 3 adjustments and she is on the last adjustment. She hates being in it now and complains all the time and cries that it is hurting her. We have thought about a booster seat (the tall ones) but we are just not sure. We know she is too little for a booster so please dont start sending me messages about how she is too young to be in a booster and what now (CUZ WE KNOW!!!)MY question is what else can we do? As I said the shoulder straps are fine but the crotch strap is getting too tight for her.....

By the way: she is in the graco car seat and its too tight in crotch. the britax to EXPENSIVE!!

What can I do next?

K.,
That is a problem, I wouldn't want thing in between legs if it were too tight. The only thing I can think of: Are her should straps up at the highest level already as well? If not, try moving those up (they should be even or a tad higher than her shoulder). If you move those up this would allow her straighten up more and sit fruther back in the seat...just my suggestion, otherwise I am not sure what to do...other than the booster, they have lots of those that have the 5 point harness but not sure about what size the child should be. We only have an 18 month old, so these problems are yet to come :)

I agree with previous poster in that you should make sure the shoulder straps are above her shoulders. If you're looking to invest in another car seat, I'd reccomend the Britax Marathon since it goes up to 65 pounds. As far as boosters, you would need a 5 point harness. The Apex 65 harnesses up to 65 pounds but it needs a higher seat back so make sure it fits well in your car. (places like TRU/BRU will usually let you take it out and install in your car to be sure) It's a 5 point that gets good reviews. The Britax Regent is great and goes up to 85 pounds. Only drawback is that it's expensive.

I'd reccomend going to BRU and trying the seats out to see which of the 5 point boosters fit your child best. Oh, and be sure it harnesses past 40 pounds. I was about to recommend another one, but now that I think about it, I think the 5 pt only goes up to 40, and you'd likely have to buy another seat before she could legally be out of the 5 pt so that's no good!

Good luck!

You could try out a highbacked booster with a 5 point harness. They are made for older/taller children.

All car seats are built different. I found that for a infant seat the Graco ran smaller and didn't fit them as long as an Evenflo one, it must be true for the toddler seats too. I guess I would go to a "Babies*R*Us" type store and just start "trying them on". We bought a Convertible Car Seat for our granddaughter. It says that it's good for infants to 80 lbs...well have to see it they are right. There has to be one out there to fit your little girl, keep looking. Good Luck!!

Go to babies r us and play with their carseats..... I've owned 3 differnet Britax's and love them all no problems and totally worth every penny-coming from a financially strapped single mom

Also this website is run by certified carseat techs and other moms and ask them what seat is best with your child's height and weight and they will give you all sorts of recommendations. Let them know your price budget as well.

Also there is a Fisher Price carseat that is the exact same thing as the Britax Marathon just doesn't have all the bells ans whistles but the exact same seat the two companies teamed up together and it's half the price.

Your daughter is way way to young for a booster I wouldn't recommend that.

Also those 3 in 1 seats usually made by Cosco/Eddie Bauer aren't very good. They are from 5-80lbs or whatever. They don't work well as boosters. They have pretty bad reviews.

Have you tried the Britax line of car seats? They offer several different types. The one I would suggest offers a taller "booster type" it looks like an adult seat but is much smaller. It also has a five point harness that is removable once your daughter gets too big, then you would use the shoulder strap in the back seat with her seat still in place. Also the crotch strap is very long, around two or so feet, and adjustable. You could also try the eddie bauer line. They offer the same type of seat at a slightly lower price tag. If you have a really tight budget you could try the Graco line. There are so many options for convertible from five point to the shoulder strap. I work at Target and we carry quite a few that would fit your needs. If you really like the britax line go to their website. Good Luck.
