Now I the Whirlpool HE, I don't believe it's the Duet as I think that's the smaller one. I do really like my Whirlpool but I would highly recommend getting the extended warranty!

I have a Maytag Neptune which I do NOT love. It's water and energy efficient, but the cycles all take FOREVER!! And it gets off balance easily and then water lies in it and it smells. I would not buy it again.

However...if you're looking for a dryer as well...the compatible Neptune dryer is AWESOME! It has a top level with racks for sweaters etc. and a regular dryer on the bottom...best dryer ever.

Front loaders are great. I would highly recommend. However, some models can "eat" baby socks. I had some issues with my whirlpool giving error codes and was always losing baby socks. My problems were related. I didn't put two and two together until I had another baby 5 years later when the problems started up again. I took the washer apart and found that my washer was actually "eating" my daughter's socks. A delicates bag took care of the problem.

Always get the extended warranty. Washers have so many settings and parts that something is sure to go wrong.

If you can, get a Whirlpool or Kenmore front-loading! They are CONSISTANTLY rated #1 & #2 by Consumer Reports & are a tremendous value!
We've had our Whirlpool for a little over 2 years now & it's fantastic!!!!!!!!! We barely use any water (and we even wash our own cloth diapers!) or detergent! LOVE it!!!!!!!

We've had a LG tromm for 3 years now and love it. It has great capacity, it's energy efficient and uses little water. It also cut the time I did laundry in half because it washes so much more. I went from doing 4 loads to two.

One important thing we looked for when we were shopping was the difference between a belt driven and gear driven machines. The belt driven ones tend to break down more often. I don't remember the brands but my best friend had a belt driven one that lasted only a couple of months.

We got the LG with the least options. We thought the steam feature was a nice idea but I knew I was never going to use the 15 other settings and it wasn't worth the extra money for us. Right now I use only one setting 99% of the time, normal. It's so easy my 5 year old insists on doing his own laundry.

Hope that helps!

I have a TROMM LG front loader washer and dryer...High Effientcey .LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It only uses 4 gallons of water per load, it is huge inside. I love everything it does so much....it has a speed wash, hand wash, cotton/towels, normal, delicate, ect....Clothes come out almost dry....They are pricey, but I got a great deal at my local boscovs....bought the dryer and got 75% off the washer, so all in all it was like 1,500

I have the GE front load washer and dryer, and I love them! The washer uses only about a 1/4 of what my old top loader did, and it is way more efficient because when the clothes come out, they have been spun so much that they are about dry. Just know though, if your laundry room is on the second floor like mine is, it's a good idea to put down 3/4in plywood underneath, because when the washer starts spinning, it was making my house shake! They are pricey, but worth it.

I love my washer. It is a front loader. Uses less water and less energy and you can put 2-3 times as much clothes in a load then a regular washer. I got mine at Sear's so it is most likely a Kenmore but I don't remember for sure. I'm at work and can't look. Mine cost about 600 but I have had it for 4 years and it works great. Dryers I don't know as much about. I have had the same dryer since 1998. Luckily it is still working. Good luck.

I have the Boche front loader washer- only uses 4 gal of water per large load and adjusts to smaller loads automatically... you can also fit more things in a load. LOVE IT! it was a little pricey but in the 2 + years we have owned it, we have more than made up the price difference in energy savings from other brands. And with a messy toddler, we do a lot of laundry! Good Luck!

Unless you're going with one of the front loaders (which I hear are nice but have a few problems), I have Maytag Atlantis and love it. If you're looking to save a little money, see if there is a Sears Outlet near you.

I had an LG before we moved and decided to sell it, as opposed to taking it with me cross country. Big mistake. I bought a Kenmore and in the first year and half, it broke down twice. Definitely not loving the Kenmore!

I still have my old washer, but got an LG dryer about a year ago and have really liked it. I will get the washer when I can. Dryer technology hasn't changed much in 30 years, so if you can get a better deal on a non-matched set, I would consider that.

I have a front loader. They use less water and wash ALOT better. You will need to use laundry soap that says "he" on the front, but all the brands make it and it doesn't cost any different. It is a lower sudsing formula. I have had a Maytag Neptune for years with no problems but you may want to see what else there is that has come out. I would buy a front loader again. Good luck.

Good Morning!
We have a front load Kenmore w/d- they are just the basic models, I swear some of them have more bells & whistles than 1 person would ever use! We did buy the extended warranty, Sears comes to service it once a year~ all parts, labor area covered. We've had it 4 yrs.
I loooove the large capacity. Although they do seem to give all appliances a 7 yr life expectancy- which is insane!$!$! Maybe a repair to your old one, may be a good idea! ;)
They just don't make 'em like our old ones!
Good luck with your search & possible purchase
