Hi everyone! I sent in this earlier in the year and got a few responses. I called the 2 Drs. in my area and both were not accepting new patients so I thought I'd try this again. I'm 45 and have not had a checkup or been to the Dr. in MANY years and I need to finally go but I have no Doc since I've not been for so long. I live in Nashville proper (not Brentwood or Franklin). Does anyone have a good GP or OB/GYN you would recommend in my area? I would really appreciate your advice and help.

What can I do next?

I see Dr Roseann Maikis at Baptist Hospital. She is a bit blunt but is a very thorough and excellent doctor. I needed help to get pregnant and stay pregnant and she was with me thru the whole process. I only see her now once a year for my annual or if I have a problem.

C., since I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2.5 yrs ago, my GYN moved from Vanderbilt to Baptist. With a complicated history, I reluctantly decided to keep all my records in one place, so I changed doctors. The wonderful doctor I used to see is Dr. Nancy Lipsitz. Since she's changed practices, she might not have closed her practice to new patients. As to who I see now, my PCP is Jane Case, FNP whose office is in Green Hills so I don't have the bother of parking at Vanderbilt! She's wonderful and yet, because of insurance companies' stronghold, she has to bill under the name of an MD who, in her case, is William Serafin, MD. Good luck! Jane does my pap smears, etc. and she's great!

Hi C.,

I see Dr. Carl Wingo. He is an OB/GYN and he is one of the best in my opinion... He had been recommended to me by a nurse at the delivery ward at Baptist. He is laid back yet very detailed oriented and thorough. He is also pleasant to be around. Their office is downtown (close to Baptist hospital) and is smaller in size, so it feels very comfortable...
I highly recommend him!

Good luck!

Hi C.,

I have been going to Franklin Womens Center for 10 years. They have great Doctors. I have never had a problem seeing a doctor when pregnant, but I make my annual appointments with a nurse practitioner (Cheryl Lankhaar) She is fabulous, always makes you feel like you are her only patient. During your visit with her you will not feel rushed and will not feel as if she is in a hurry to get to the next patient.

Don't wait any longer, your annual appt's are important. You need to take care of yourself too!

I know you will be happy with their practice.

J.

Hi C. -
My ob/gyn is Carl Wingo. His is affiliated with Centennial Medical Center, so his office is right next to the hospital.

He's great. I started going to see him when I got pregnant on a recommendation of a friend of mine who has seen him for years. He is a very matter-of-fact, no nonsense kind of doctor. But that doesn't make him too serious or boring - his bedside manner is great.

He's very good at putting you at ease. When I was pregnant and I would be on the verge of freaking out about some strange thing that was happening to my body, he was great at allaying my fears.

Highly recommended. His nurses are also great!
