Need a Good Baby Monitor

I am on my third crappy baby monitor. I have a Fisher Price right now, and it is dying. I've only been using this one for a little less than a year, since my 3rd baby was born. For each kid I have had to buy a new monitor because they just stop working. Do any of you have a good monitor that has worked for a long time and has minimal static? There is such a wide range of prices on these things, and I don't want to spend a lot of money on something that wont work for very long. Thanks for your help!

you can get all kinds of monitors on E-bay, brand new for cheap. I just got a never been used video one for under $100. You don't have to follow all the bidders. Just look for a reasonable "buy it now" price.

We love our Sony Babycall. It's about $45 at Babies r Us. There's little to no static, it picks up every noise baby makes without much background. The only downside is that the receiver is portable, but the base is not. We wish they both had the capability.

Go with the Sony babyCall. It is a little over $100. I have had mine for 3 years and using it on my second. Still works great. It is simple, but it works well.

This might be an odd thought, but maybe you don't need a baby monitor. I received four as a gift for my first daughter, never used them, and had two more kids. Never really had a moment in time when one seemed necessary.

I had back luck with the Fischer Price and Summer monitors. We finally found a top notch video monitor at Radio Shack. It is now 3 1/2 years old and we are using it for our 2nd child. It is great quality, sound and picture. Check out Radio Shack or another electronics store for better quality. Good luck!

I got the Graco when my son was born, that was four years ago. It was and still is awesome! I have never had one problem with it. I had another Graco when my daughter was born and it lasted three years, then I got another. It is very basic but picks up EVERYTHING!! I can hear them breathing and the slightest noise from their room. It was one of the lesser expensive ones too. I used the plug in adapter mainly so not to go through 9volt batteries like crazy but when I shut their bedroom door and come downstairs I still use it and my kids are 4 and 7. Being downstairs I can plug it in the kitchen and still hear it all if needed until I go to bed. I have the other montitor by my bed if I ever need it but am weaning myself off of it and sleeping better for it! :) Good luck.

C.,

I'm wondering if maybe your problem is not the baby monitor. Is your reciever near other electronics or the microwave? Do you live near a highway or area where people use other over the air communications. Are there other moms that live near you who may be accidently "sharing" your channel or are on a radio wavelength close to yours? Any of these things could cause static.

Hi C. - I used the Safety1st Safe Glow monitor - with two receivers. Our daughter is now 3.5 and while we don't use the monitor for sound, she loves the light that automatically turns off after 10 minutes. Only monitor we got and still works like a charm.

We happened to receive a great one at our first baby shower. It's the safety 1st monitor with 2 receivers. Hopefully they are still as good as they were, we've had ours for 4 years and have had no problems. I guess we got lucky, our mother in law also went through 3 monitors before finding one she liked!

Love, love, love the Sony Babycall. We've had it for 5 years & it's still as good as the day we got it. Great reception & a voice activated function that turns on the monitor only when your baby makes noise, so you don't have to hear the background noise.

I second the recommendation for the Sony babycall. It is absolutely awesome. It has great reception and a great range. There is never any static and I love the voice activated function where it only turns on when your baby makes a loud noise. It helps me sleep better. I believe it is $40.00. I love this monitor. I highly recommend it.

I have had the Summer Video Monitor. It is great. No static and you have the option of looking in on your little one without disturbing him or her.
