Can anyone provide any good referrals for a nanny. I live on the southside of Chicago and my kids will be going to preschool however, the preschool is only a half day and I work full time. I do not want to put my 2year old daughther on a school bus but, I can't quit my job. Any suggestions.

What can I do next?

My cousin who lives in the South Loop says that a lot of the people in her area get nannies from the Moody Bible Institute. They are supposed to be good and reasonably priced. I haven't looked into it myself but when she inquired around the neighborhood, that's what she was told.

I recently got a new nanny so I can tell you what I did.
Three things:
1. www.sittercity.com It's $39.95 but you get a ton of information on many people. This is where I found two great nannies.
2. Craig's list Chicago- I don't know the exact address but it is free. You just post want you are looking for.
3. www.secondcitynanny.com It's also free.

Good luck!

Hi L.,

Is your child receiving services? Maybe one of the therapists will know of a good preschool.
My son also has special needs. He is 3 and a half now. He loves the bus. I felt horrible in the beginning about putting him on the bus, but now he makes himself comfortable and even takes off his socks and his shoes.
Good Luck.

Are you looking for a professional. Or will you take a chance on someone looking to work as a nanny. And also, is it live?

If you can't get a verbal referral, try the website Sittercity.com. It's free for sitters/nannies, but for families, there's a fee. You can preview some of the sites free to see if it's going to meet your needs, but I know people who found great people that way. I advertised at St. Xavier (Chicago) and Trinity Christian College (Palos hts) and found some really wonderful girls that way, but the drawback is they do have different school scheds that sometimes conflict. Good luck.
