ok, so some might think I am crazy but it works. I put a super maxi pad in my son's diaper at night. Worked everytime. I also didn't have to buy the special nite-time diapers anymore. Used the just regular huggies with a pad. Good Luck!
Hi Mama's!
My 16 month old son wears size 6 diapers (pampers baby dry) during the day, and Huggies overnights size 6 overnight. But in the morning, he has always peed through his diaper, jammies, and usually his sheets! Anybody out there has any solutions? The only size 7's out there are Pampers Cruisers, but he is allergic to them. We tried them overnight for one night twice, a few weeks apart, and each time, he woke up with a diaper rash that was so bad it was bleeding! Are there absorbant inserts out there that I can add to his nighttime diaper? Any other ideas?
Thanks!

My son is 16 months and in a 5 when at day care, but sometimes I'm to lazy to cloth diaper at night. What I do is use a hemp insert when using a disposable. They are super absorbant. They hold 3x more than cotton. Or there is bamboo inserts that hold maybe 2x. I would suggest getting 7 or so of them and try it. So easy. Washing is a breeze and this way you don't waste money on buying more and more diapers. If you want any info on cloth at all, let me know!
I cloth diaper... can i suggest adding a cloth diaper or 2 into the diaper at night?
I agree with MamaMay, add a cloth diaper.
I would cut out fluids for him after 6pm and make sure he pees before bed if you can. They will usually pee in the tub :) If you havent been giving him a bath right before bed that might help.
If you are sending him to bed with a bottle that would explain the pee through also. I think it happens to all of us at one time or another. You finally get them to sleep through the night but it means you deal with a wet bed, we just can't win sometimes :)
Well you could try cutting out liquids a few hours before bed. Like if he needs a little drink of water that's ok but no more sippy cups after dinner. Also you could put him to bed and then when you go to bed go in and change him so he has a fresh diaper on. That might help hold him over until morning.
I don't know about inserts but I'd say a good idea would be to get cloth diapers (the washable/reusable kind) and put one over or inside the diaper. They are great at absorbing. I use them and they last a long time.
Does he wear a onesie too? It helps hold the diaper secure. Good luck!
If he is peeing that much I might have him checked for diabetes especially if he pees a lot during the day (and I am not saying he is overweight) I always have diabetes in the back of my mind because I have 3 cousins with type 1.
Those that seem to think your son is overweight my oldest was 32 lbs and 3 ft at 18 months while my youngest was 16 lbs and 29 in at 18 months quite a big difference. You don't know if she has a tall child and a diaper is useless if it doesn't come up high enough.
You can try an insert they sell them at babies r us also pampers makes an overnight diaper but I don't know what size they go up to or you could also try an overnight pull up style that is for older kids if you cannot find an overnight diaper that is big enough.
I used the pampers overnights. In the purple box. They worked great. I even used then on long trips. Not really sure what size they go up to. You also may want to limit how much he drinks at night. That may help too. I never liked the huggies cause they do leak even during the day. I stuck stictly to pampers. But the huggies pullups are great. I know that he is a little young for the pullups but just wanted to let you know that. Good luck!
Not sure if they are still around, but I used diaper doublers for my son (found them in stop and shop) and they were wonderful. He was a big baby (24 lbs at his first birthday) and Huggies over night just didn't cut it. BTW at 5 1/2 yo he has slimmed down to the point where he needs to wear 5 slims and a belt.
I don't know how much your son weighs, but my large 15 m.o. wears 7th Gen size 4 or 5 with no problems whatsoever. Good luck.

They make diaper inserts for this situation. Look in the diaper aisle.
Try not giving him anything to drink for 2 hours before bedtime so he has a chance to pee it out. We make sure our daughter drinks well all day, and then only water at dinner and nothing after that.
I truly don't mean to be offensive by my answer, but I just wanted to let you know that there is a connection between being overweight and excessive urination - it is the body's attempt to lower high blood sugar. Excessive urination can be a sign of type II diabetes. I only mention this because my son is 19 months old and wears a size 4 - weighing in at 23Ibs, he's not at the top of his class, but he is a healthy weight for his height.
There are diaper doubler inserts. You might also try cloth for at night. But before any of that, I'd suggest that you check his diaper before you go to bed at night. Disposables are really meant to hold only one pee and if he's peeing multiple times at night, his diaper can't handle it. If he goes to bed at say 7:00 and you go to bed at 11:00, if his diaper is already wet, you need to do a quickie diaper change in the crib, that may help.
The last thing I would do before bed every night was to change his diaper. If he hadn't gone yet, I'd wake him up gently to pee. He was nowhere close to full conscious control, but he had partial control from apx 9mo onward. Since he drank apx 20oz per feeding, changing diapers at night was a MUST.
He really wears a size 6 diaper???
My son is 4 years old, a big boy, and he wears Size 6, night time diapers.
Your son is only 16 months old???
Get a waterproof bed pad, to put under him. I got mine from Amazon.
Also change his diaper at least once, during the night. Then that way, it will reduce leaking AND his diaper rash from being in a wet diaper ALL Night long.
From my experience, Huggies diapers always leaked... day or night, even though my kids didn't pee excessively. They just weren't the right shape.... try Pampers for night time too... they have an overnight one as well (12 hour+).
buy a bigger size, just for night time?? idk, when that happens i buy a bigger size for night time only and it works.
Diaper Doublers are the inserts. You can use a large maxi pad in a pinch (I used up the huge ones from the hospital that way). Also when my son was that large we started getting Goodnights which are like pull ups for bigger kids who still need them for nights. My son is 5 and potty trained but still needs them at night. He is big for his age but a good weight for his height. He outgrew size 6 diapers over a year before he was potty trained (he trained at 3.5).
