Try a jumper. My boys loved them at that age. We had one that hangs in the doorway, and the free-standing one.

Just my 2 cents but I wouldn't get my son hooked on TV yet. When my son was 5 months he liked to play in his exasaucer and with his soft toys.
I would hold off on TV at this point - try busy toys that make a lot of noise. Also at that age the jumper, exersaucer and walkers are a mom's best friend! Good luck!
My daughter is 18 months old and could care less about the tv. In fact I like it this way. If her nose is not stuck in a book she is normally destroying the house.....LOL! Anyhow, my point is to maybe try something else before you encourage tv. At 5 months old my daughter was happiest in her swing or bouncy seat.
At that age, my son LOVED his playmat. We have the Tiny Love Lights and Music mat (you can get it at Target or Babies R Us)...there was so much for him to play with, and look at, that he would lay contentedly on it for at least a half hour at a time. I'd put him on his tummy there too and put little teethers and rattles in front of him for tummy time. He still likes his playmat and he's 18 months old!
At that age we used an "Around We Go" entertainer. It is like an exersaucer but the baby can go around the outside of all the toys. He LOVES it. Once he started walking we took the seat part away and he still plays with it now he is almost 2! He may also like the Playskool Busy Ball Popper. Until he is old enough to crawl to get the balls, you will get your exercise fetching stray balls, but if he's anything like my son he will love watching them go. He also still plays with that almost every day!
The playmat was a huge hit with all of mine, as well as a little baby gym that they played with while on their back. Can't remember the name, but the played it for hours.
My Son loved the Fisher Price Intellitainer and the playmat. He still plays with it though I am trying to get rid of it since it is occupying so much space.
