My son 11 yr. old has ocd really bad, and i dont know what to do help him get over it. It has gotten so bad he won't touch door knobs or anything after one of his sisters. He has lost friends over it. He is sad all the time, He tells me he wishes he didnt have it. I'm trying to figure it out and find others that know of support groups with other kids who have it or others i can talk to get answers - i need to do whatever i can to help him. His doctor put him on mediciine but it is not really helping.. i just want my son to be happy. Any feed back well help. he has seen therapist . Thank you...K.

How old is your son?
Have you talked to your pediatrician about this? It might be a good place to start.
OCD is an anxiety disorder and there are therapists that specialize in treating OCD.
Good luck!

If the medication isn't working, I would go back to the specialist who diagnosed the OCD and mention that. There are many medications to try, so don't give up hope because the first one didn't work.

I would take a look on the DailyStrength website for its OCD support board to connect with others dealing with OCD.

Our son has had OCD since he was four. He's on Celexa for it and thankfully that has solved it for him.

I hope you find a good solution that helps your son feel just like everyone else.

May I suggest therapy as well as medication. Do not give up hope..... He just hasn't gotten the right treatment yet. Therapy can help him work through his emotions and can also help with behavior modification strategies. From what I know about OCD, therapy and medication will likely be the most helpful combination. Good luck. I know it must be hard to see your son hurting. He can be helped though. Keep seeking help.

Is he seeing a psychiatrist or just a family doctor? If it is effecting his life this much he should be seeing a therapist. Also, with mental illness, it may take trying different medications and/or different dosages to find what will work for your son. Every person is different. What might work great for one person may not work at all for another person. Go back to your doctor and keep trying until you find something that helps.

My father has OCD, he passed it onto me and I passed it onto my daughter. There are different degrees. With my Dad everything has to be clean, with me everything has to be organized, same with my daughter. Just be there for him. It will go through phases and as other posts said, it is anxiety related and medication will help. Yes, even for an eleven year old. If you haven't, talk with him on how others in the household can help him, make things easier. To others his behavior seems really excessive, and their reactions sometimes cause his reaction. Good Luck

He needs a therapist, this is an anxiety disorder, I hope your insurance covers mental health (?)
My daughter has major anxiety, including some OCD issues, and the only thing that has helped her is professional therapy, I hope that is an option for you.
