B.C.
Yeah, it was weird, but kind cool (since there was no damage).
Here I am almost 50 and this was a first for me!
I'll be humming "I feel the Earth - Move - Under my Feet" all afternoon.
:-)
YAHOO!!! Growing up in Hawaii and California we had earth quakes...I was there for the Feb 89 in SFO...and the HUGE one in Pasadena ....
I was VERY proud of my kids - they did NOT panic...YAHOO!!! the emergency stuff we've been talking to them about is working!!!
Do you talk with your kids about how to act in an emergency?!
News said it was 5.8 - felt like it!!!
From I understand we have a fault line here...it was felt all the way up to New York...guess the epi center was Richmond, VA?
No damage and we're all safe!

I know people from nc to md that felt it. We didn't feel it here though in Ohio.
Added: Guess I need to update my location, we just moved. I do know people in state college that could feel it.
I live in earthquake country in California. In fact, we are surrounded by tsunami zones. The earthquake in Japan was devastating to Crescent City, CA about an hour and a half north of us.
All the kids here have earthquake drills at school, etc.
I didn't realize there were earthquakes in VA. My goodness.
I'm glad your kids handled it well. It can be pretty scary. I hope there wasn't a lot of damage.
Best wishes.
What! You sound excited by the earthquake :)
Glad your kids handled it well and all are safe.
I have never experienced an earthquake and never ever want to. It's the scariest thing for M.. You can hide from a tornado or try to run away from it( I said try) but what do you do when the ground you are standing on starts to shake and crack open. OMG SCARY!
I've never heard of an earthquake in that region! Wow. My friend in State College, PA felt it too..she said her whole house was shaking. She's from MN, so it was very scary for her.
ETA @ Denise--wow, you didn't feel it? My friend lives in the same city as you and she said her whole house was shaking.
ETA2 - whoops...my bad. She doesn't live in State College anymore...moved to Hanover.
Geesh...
Is THAT what I just felt??
Dogs went crazy...
I am over 4 hours from you cheryl...is that possible?
Michele/cat
***geesh...bet rachel is glad she is at the beach NOW!! lol
Seems 'important folk' are being evacuated in DC...scary stuff!
I just read it was 6.0!
Yes, I felt it--that's for sure.
Can't say I enjoyed it like Cheryl! LOL
in bucks county pa we felt it and it shook the whole place where i work
NY is getting earthquakes?!!
Does that mean we'll get snow this winter in So. Cali?
I'm in an office tower here in Atlanta, so I didn't feel it, but my husband works from home on Tuesdays and he said the table vibrated and then the whole house shook! Neighbors down the street report the same thing. Weird for this area!
I'm at Dover Air Force Base & they evacuated all of our buildings. We were JUST let back in about 3 minutes ago & all the phones are still down. I'd be better about it if I could talk to my kids who are home on their own.
My daughter was home doing a project for her AP class. I was at a friend's. We couldn't get out of the house before pictures started falling on us So we did the duck and cover. It was very scary. The house rumbled for a while. I thougt at first a plane had hit the house. It's been over 10 years since I felt an earthquake.
We now have no cell service and the Lake Anna nuclear reactor has been taken offline.
I am very proud of my daughter. She remembered what they said in CA about them and sat in a door frame.
My other two kids are at camp in town. The building was evacutaed and there were no injuries so they will stay until camp is over tonight. .
Scary Cheryl!!! Glad everyone is OK. That is your testament as a mother - your kids are calm, cool, and collected. Good job!!! Yes we do talk about emergencies and what to do in case they happen. We have been lucky so far. I can't imagine going through an earthquake though, sounds so scary!!
My kids are always meh, cool. I guess cause I am sitting there going meh, cool.
They keep changing all the darn rules to the point I have no idea where to go anymore. I think the latest is next to a solid object but that could change next week.
Of course we are in St Louis where they don't seem to have big ones. Heck everyone I know sleeps through them. I don't, I kick Troy and ask did you feel it. He hates that. :p
We felt it here too in upstate NY. Very mild. Hope everybody's ok!
:)
We felt it here too!
it's so weird, i'm in Hampton Roads and didn't feel anything but all my family members are calling me asking if we're ok! The kids and I were at the playground and didn't feel it all..i'm kind of bummed, would've been my first one!
We certainly felt it here between Baltimore and DC. My poor daughter thought her brother was shaking the table by bumping into it then realized the floor was shaking him! Then the whole house really started to shake and she darted up the steps to grab her baby brother before anyone could say otherwise and then we all ran outside. Not sure if that was the best thing to do, but that's what we decided on after we all shouted out different things. lol!
All of the kids thought it was really cool once it was over, but my insides were still shaking for hours afterwards. My husband was at work in the middle of DC and said it was pretty scary being on the 5th floor of a concrete building : / I'm just glad it was so minor!
I don't know if anyone remembers the one from last July. Both my husband and I got woken up in the early morning to the house shaking. It didn't last long at all though, just long enough for us to ask each other if it was an earthquake and then turn right back over and fall asleep again. lol!
I just hope this isn't the start of a new trend for this side of the country : /
