My 7 Month Old Is Waking up Again

My 7 month old is waking up some time between 2:30 and 4. If she wakes up at the earlier time she usually plays/talks for an hour before doing a little crying and will go back to sleep then. On mornings like today, she wakes up at 4:30 babbling and then cries and won't go back to sleep. She's generally a good sleeper, and has had no trouble going to bed at 7:30 at night. She did not wake up once in the middle of the night while I was out of town for a week. Any suggestions out there? I know it could be worse, but I am exhausted and there doesn't seem to be any reason in particular.

What can I do next?

Hmmmm...... is the babbling new? Often times babies like to practice their milestones while they sleep - much to our dismay!

Is she hungry at 4:30? If you feed her does she go back to sleep?

I can remember my LO getting up at 4:30 in the morning forever! I had to cut down on her nap time AND give her a later bedtime for her to wake later.
So she had a 1 hour nap in the morning, and a 1.5 hour nap in the afternoon. I also moved her morning nap later. Their first nap of the day - if it is too close to their waking time, then it seems like an extension of sleep, and it exacerbates the early waking.
Is she clearly tired at 4:30 or is she just done sleeping? That will help you know if she is getting too much day sleep.
Another thing to consider is room darkening shades and some white noise. I am waking at 4:30am because it is light out and those birds are chirping away! If she sees the light she might have a hard time going back to sleep.

GOOD LUCK!

Practicing new skills, teething, a cold? Anything could explain it. My son, now 7 months, went through that at 6 months for a couple of weeks and it was rough!

We are up every morning at 4:45 am and in bed by 7:30pm, and he nurses on demand at night.

I would just chalk it up to babyhood. We co-sleep, so if he's not fussy, I just sleep through it, or doze I should say.

Good luck, it's par for the course in my opinion and you will do this number of times. My 2 1/2 year old was screaming that he'd lost his shoes at 2am and the baby was up at 4:45am. Coffee....open vein....now!

Good luck mama!

Sounds like something developmental to me. DS (now 2) always did this before he hit a milestone. We had 1-2 weeks of it, and then once he finally mastered the skill/teeth came through he went back to sleeping normally.

Just be careful that YOU don't create any habits for her during this time. Something like rocking her back to sleep will create a monster that you'll have to undo sooner than later. If you go in, I wouldn't pick her up, just soothe her from outside the crib and and tuck her back in. And I wouldn't go in unless she was really crying.

It sounds like your daughter is going to bed too early and at 4:30 a.m. she is ready for her day to start. You didn't say what her naps are but it definitely sounds like she is due for a change.
