If you go to the Monistat site itself it says "•Are not intended to be taken by anyone under the age of 12.
Please don't. You should take her in to be examined.
Before I head to the doctors Do any of you Mommies know if it is safe to use Monistat external vulvar cream on her. Still going to bring her to the doctor just was wondering

With older kids you might try something like that. I might give a 10 year old something only meant for 12 and up. That being said I would never do that with a 5 month old baby unless the doctor said to.
She's too young, has an immature immune system and you just can't imagine the possible complications. Wait until you can speak with the doctor.
Infant meds are going to be different strengths. No way I'd use anything on a baby's skin that wasn't prescribed by a doc and checked out with the pharmacist.
I'd say no for 2 reasons.
One is, the Monistat itself isn't meant for babies. Or children. Like most creams and medicines.
Two is, you have no idea if it's a fungal infection, do you? How did you diagnose it and compare it to other types of infections and rashes? What else are you using on her that could have caused or exacerbated this condition? The pediatrician will use all the info you provide about what you've done so far (for regular care as well as treatment) as well as take a look at the actual site to see what it is (or isn't).
Give the doctor's office a call. My youngest granddaughter is 4 months and is being treated with something otc. Its clearing up just fine. She got it from her mama who is being treated with rx strength stuff since the otc didn't work on her.
if your dr ok's it then do it. but for now use what is recommended for baby and just wait till the dr sees her.
