My son WOULD NOT potty train until he was almost 4 1/2. We tryed every thing under the sun. Let me tell you I HATED changing 4 year olds poopy diapers!!! HATED IT!!! But if you try to push them they fight it even more... its one thing in their life THEY CONTROLL and we cant make them go on the potty if they dont want to. My best advice is keep offering the potty, dont push the issue and eventually he will do it... I just kept reminding myself, " hes not gonna go to high school not potty trained" LOL!!! Hope this helps. **T**

There is a great book out there called "Once upon a Potty" it shows drawing of a child sitting on a potty, it is like a how to book geared for a three yr old. I used it will 4 of my 5 kids and it takes the stress out of potty training. also when he sits on the potty, give him a reward (like a few M&Ms) and then when he starts peeing in the potty, then give a few more, and when he go pooh in the potty, give him a few more. after a while, you start weaning him. He only gets the reward for going potty. also talk positively to him, like saying" when you are a Big Boy and go potty, then you and mommy can go to the park to play. or something that would be a goal and a reward for them.

I know how you feel, I run a home daycare and have several children in potty training age that seem to do ok and then they just do not want anything to do with the potty. I just keep taking them and hope eventually they will learn. My own children who are older now, were both potty trained before they were 2 and it was great, but now days kids seem to be waiting till they are 3 or 4 to even want to try. I take care of a 3 yr old boy who will go potty but not poo. After 5 yrs of doing daycare, I still have not learned the secret to it, each child will eventually learn it, but I know that changing a poo diaper of a 3 and 4 yr old is not pretty. Best of luck and I know what you are dealing with, I also have those issue. Kids are Kids, what we want them to do, they will do the opposite.

Get the little man a pair of cool and colorful "big boy" Jockey-type shorts," and tell him that he can trade the pull-ups in for the shorts when he uses the toilet. Worked like a charm for both my boys.
