Some of the warts are caused by viruses. You can try L-lysine- which is an amino acid. IF it is herpes related (cold sores fall into this category)- it may help. You can pick it up any any pharmacy/or health food store.

Duct tape over the warts is suppose to work too. I don't know if I would try it.

A Doctor of Oriental medicine (DOM) may have some herbal formulas available.

my daughter developed this problem under her armpit, it started with a couple and the pediatrician told me the same thing, it goes away on it's own, can last months or a couple of years...so I did nothing. Then it started to slowly spread under her arm and I noticed more and more. Since i didn't want to wait and I didn't want my other child to get it, I took her to the dermatologist and demanded treatment for it. The dermatologist then treated it with this liquid he'd put on the moluscum. What happens is a day or two after they blister up- this process is not painful but it is very itchy but once they blister up, they heal. We had to do this 3 times in total and my daughter's moluscum went away completely. My suggestion to u is to do the most aggressive treatment, in this case, this one is the least painful, otherwise it will get worse and continue to spread in your child and others.

Hi N.,

DO go to the dermatologist, pediatric specifically, and take care of the symptoms now. It will only keep spreading. The tea tree oil will help but it gotten a bit far for it to simply heal it at this point.

Molluscum contagiosum is viral and is pretty nasty to deal with. I'm sorry you're going through this. The virus hits because the immune system of your little one can't fight it off. Helping this now and preventing it in the future will depend on getting their immune systems working right. I'll be glad to give you some info on that if you're interested.

God bless,

M.

Please try a product called ZymaDerm from www.naturopathix.com. Trust me this was an absolute miracle for my son and it worked almost immediately. Within the first few days I saw the lumps drying off and then they just went away. The liquid has a strong smell but it is so worth it.

I have never heard of mulescum, but I've had warts on my feet for years. Many years ago I had laser surgery to remove them, only to have them come back a year later. I tried freezing - everything - and nothing worked so I gave up, having been told they'd go away eventually anyway. Then I came across this article: http://hubpages.com/hub/Only-Witches-Want-Warts and I tried what she recommended, CoQ-10 and I've been taking it for a month now and it actually seems to be working! I had a combined 13 warts on the bottoms of my feet and now I'm down to 4.

I don't know if this will work for you, but it's worth reading - I know how bad the desperation can be. I hope this helps your kiddos!

Hi,
Check the diet-decrease carbs, no sugar- I'd do the Feingold diet for them, so their immune systems can fight the virus.

All three of my daughters had them as well as a few nieces and nephews. From what I understand they are VERY common among toddlers. You can take them to a dermatologist and they can freeze them. The theory is that if they can get the "mother" one then the rest will go away also. We did this with my oldest, she got two small treatments and they went away no problem. (She had them a few months before we sought treatment.) When my second daughter got them, I took her to the dermatologist thinking it would be a nice simple cure like with my oldest, but no such luck. She got them all over and no matter what the dermatologist did, it didn't help. The derm gave us the choice of continuing treatments (that weren't helping and were starting to get painful) or letting her outgrow them. We went with the outgrowing them option and planned to come back in a year if they hadn't gone away. Fortunately, they went away on their own after some time. The one thing that helped was the dermatologist reminded us that kids have no sense of their appearance, so it doesn't bother them that they have them and they are only painful if in an area they are being rubbed. When my third daughter got them, we just let them run their course and fortunately, she got a mild case of them and didn't last long. They told us that most outgrow them by the time they are 3-4 years old. The only thing we had to do different was not to bathe them together. Other than that, they were still allowed in pools, etc. Hope that helps some.

You will get all kinds of advice on here, so please keep in mind this is caused by a virus and there is no "cure", just alot of people who want your money. It will go away in time, and there is no magic number. It took almost three years for my daughters to clear up, but only about nine months for my grandson. Keep the areas clean and dry if one is scratched open, do NOT try to pop them, and know that if you put anything topical on the "warts" (they aren't warts event though they look kind of like them) you can make the problem worse.
All of that being said, one thing I found that helped alot was the beach. Whenever I took my daughter to the beach then came home and bathed her the white "core" would just pop out most of the way and I could just pluck it off her skin. She still got new ones, but much fewer in the summer months when we went to the beach. Be patient, they do just go away in time.

My daughter had it. My son had a few of them as well.. They do go away over time... but they can spread while you're waiting. We gave up when a couple in my daughter's scalp got infected. She got an antibiotic from our family physician for the infection and told to wait it out. I did some online research and heard a bunch of horror stories about how bad it can spread. So we made an appt with a dermatologist... and it CAN take many weeks to get it. The wait was frustrating. BUT... they used a combination prescription wart remover combined with a bug juice (can't remember the name, haha, but it is caustic) and dapped the tips of each of her spots -- she only had about 5... (here is the thing too.. once you get paranoid about it.. EVERYTHING starts looking like a spot!! but they aren't ALL molluscum).. anyway.. they put bandaids over them. Said leave them on for 3 hours.. then remove and wash with soap. We did.

They all blistered up and got irritated and oozy looking after about 5 days.. then they dried up and (over the course of a couple of weeks) went away. Hasn't come back.
My son had one on his side at his waistline... it got scratched off accidently changing clothes or a wet swimsuit or something... it scabbed then didn't come back.

my son had it and they are almost gone. I took him to the dermatologist and she treated the molluscums with beetle juice. The beetle juice turns them into blisters but she sent me home with a prescription that I put on the blisters and he's almost all cleared up.

My daughter had this and we took her to a dermatologist. She did the topical treatment and it did work, but my ask your dermatologist what to do if they start itching them during the healing process. It took a little while longer for them to heal because she kept itching them and breaking them open again.

You may want to get the process started before pool season starts. Also, if you go to a pediatric dermatologist, it can take awhile before you get in. (We used a regular dematologist and got in within a week.) Good luck!

Hi N.,

I hear you on the muluscum. It is a nasty thing to deal with. My daughter had it a few years ago and the pediatrician just said to keep it covered and keep it clean. If she scratched it made it worse. By mid summer the ones under her knees were infected so she sent us to a dermatologist who gave us a prescription for Aldara Cream, oddly enough used to treat genital warts in adults. We had to apply a very small amount on once a day. It worked really well on her. See if your doc can send you to a dermatologist and look into it. The unfortunate thing I learned about this was it takes SO long for it to go away...my daughters took about a year to go completely away. One other thing someone suggested was to not reuse the towels after bath. We usually reuse ours once or twice before throwing in the laundry.

Good luck! If you have any questions on the cream send me a message! Hang in there!!

My daughter had this problem. She got it from some of the kids in her daycare center. I took her to our family doctor, and a dermatologist and both said that it was very very common, but that to fix it would be painful for my daughter and that it was best to just wait it out. Needless to say, my daughter loves dresses but would refuse tights, so I always put her in a dress and pants. One day, however, she decided she didn't like the way pants looked under her dress, and started wearing tights. The tights made the Mulescum spread and she began to itch very badly. We had read online that people were treating the rash with acne cream, and both doctors agreed that we should take that route, however it wasn't doing a whole lot, and I needed something to soothe the itching. I found Cortizone 10 Hydratensive healing lotion at the Walgreens pharmacy and used that in conjunction with the strongest acne cream I could find, Terminator 10. I have had to go through about 4 tube of each, which is NOT cheap, and I spread the lotion all over the body and the acne cream just on the bumps. I also do this right after a bath, and then have her put on fresh pajamas. No repeating clothing for a second wear until the rash is gone!!! She now has one bump left that is almost gone. When that is gone, I think we will use the system a little longer for good measure, but then it will be gone! Good Riddance!

It goes go away after two years. I had it. It is horrible and soooo itchy. I also ordered something online called poxi-derm. It dried it up and made the itch go away. For the bigger ones (they look more like pimples, not warts) I froze them with a wart-remover. But I think the Poxi-derm helped. Make sure you cover them so they don't itch them and have your kids wash their hands because they do spread on your body with contact.

We dealt with this same issue...very annoying and they spread quickly! Our pedi gave us a cream (Aldara) and then we saw a derm. Since I was pregnant and wanted to get rid before spreading to new baby, they treated quickly. I took my son in every few weeks and they "painted" the warts with a topical medicine...similar to freezing I guess. The warts would blister and then scab over and disappear.

Best of luck. But you might want to consider a derm. Supposedly it's a very common problem in toddlers/children.

Our son also had them when he was little. We were told the same thing, to just let it run its course. His lasted over a year, kept moving to new spots on his body and then just disappeared. We didn't use any products for it because the doctor said there aren't any approved treatments. I would be careful about using anything on them because I would suspect that could help spread it more.

Wish I had some good tips for you. Just wanted you to know it can go away on its own and quite suddenly.

We had this too and used Silver Salve that I bought @ my health food store. I think it was around $10. It's just silver really. We use silver for all viral, bacterial, burns and fungal problems. I hope it works for you if you give it a try. Everyone should have this stuff @ home for skin infections.

My son had it also. We used apple cider vinegar on them. It takes putting it on them every night for a couple weeks but it worked great for us. I Just soaked a rag in the apple cider vinegar and layed it on the affected area for about thirty minutes (after he had fallen asleep). It makes them look worse before better, but they all went away and it didn't hurt him at all. Try googling it and you might find more detailed description of this. Some sites tell you to pop them but we didn't they rose up and looked like you could pop them, but just kept treating them and waited it out in a few days they looked like small scabs. Once that happens they are as good as gone :)
