We use Texas Power and did not have to do a deposit, their website is www.texaspoweronline.com they seem to be pretty reasonable to us
My family and I are moving into a 1 bedroom apartment complex. We were wondering if anyone knows of a good electricity provider, besides TXU, that is affordable. Mainly interested in the deposit situation. Good costumer service a PLUS!!!
Thanks to everyone for all the tips! I went with Green Mountain Energy and they only asked for $150.00 deposit regardless how bad your credit is. If you have good credit they waive the deposit fee though. We recently got our first bill, although it was only for 2 days of living there, it was pretty low: $15.00. LOL! I'm waiting for the next bill but they're customer service is awsome as well! Thanks to everyone who helped adn I highly recommend these guys!
P.S. Not only do you save on electricity rates here but you consume energy and you automatically join into going GREEN. They generate their electricity by windmills down in the Valley. I love it!!!

Go with Stream Energy - please contact Patty Sullivan at ###-###-#### - she is a rep for Stream. Stream has the lowest rates around! I've been with them now for 3 years.
Hi there. I have tried TXU, Reliant, and am currently with Cirro Energy. I have had lower bills with Cirro by far, and I moved into a bigger house when I switched to them. I also did not have to pay a deposit with Cirro. You might want to check them out.
I switched last summer from TXU to Cirro Energy & absolutely love it!!!! My bills with TXU during the summer, (for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment), was $300! But with Cirro, I haven't had anything over $200. I think I'm only paying about $0.11 or $0.12 per killowat hour. And that was in the middle of December with the heat on & christmas lights in all my windows & xmas tree. Their service is excellent too. If you call after hours, they have a staff available to take a message & someone always returns your call the next morning. I love them!!!!
you can compare electric providers on this website and get the cheapest one:

Hi L.,
We currently use CoServ and love them, they will waive the deposit as long as you can prove you have not been late more than once in the past year to your current provider. We have a 4 bedroom house and this months bill was $90. Granted the weather has not been to hot or cold.. but it has never been a huge amount. We used Gexa Energy when we lived in an apartment and it was extremly high and they were not very easy to work with.
We've tried several providers including TXU, Green Mountain Energy, Direct Energy (which is now something else, I think), and changed to Gexa Energy because they had a sign up offer for American Airline miles. There was a signing bonus of miles and we get 2 miles for every dollar we spend.
I've been very pleased with Gexa's customer service and with the decrease in our electric bills. They have a good website that's easy to use to pay on line (gexaenergy.com).
I use texaspoweronline.com my bills are about half of what they were before.
My family and I have used CoServ electric for over 4 years. We absolutely love the rates they have given us. We have never had a bill from them over $300 and that's gas 7 electric together and we live in a 3400sqft home. Usually keep the air on 73 and heat on 77.
The deposit rates are very reasonable. When we had TXU our bill would run $400 or more in a 2 bedroom apt. You can check your address on their website or give them a call to find out if they can service your area.
Good luck!!
L.,
I've read some of these responses to you. Don't use Stream Energy. They are not what they advertise themselves to be and are heavily marketed by networkers. The company changes their billing cycle every month so I never really know when my bill is due. I was a day late paying my bill in March, and didn't send in their 5% more late charges. I requested to have them removed, so when my April bill came in I minused that amount off and paid the bill early. Yesterday I received a disconnect notice if I don't pay their late charges by the 19th this month and they tacked on more late fees even though I've paid my bill. They late fees are now $25. Can you beleive they would actually terminate my service for $25? First time in my life I've ever received a disconnect notice. Their customer service says too bad, you will pay it or we will shut your electric off. There is nothing I can do until my contract is up with them because there is also a $250 fee of you leave them before your contract is up. Beleive me I will be leaving them as soon as I can. Go to the power to choose website and do some diligent shopping. Their rate now for new customers is almost as high as TXU, there are definitely lower companies out there.
Good luck,
D.
We use 1st choice electric, and have had no issues. We pay 11.4 cents per kilawatt (sp?) hour and have a low security deposit ($140.00). TXU wanted $450 dollar deposit and I was a previous good customer....
We have been with Reliant and are very happy. I like the customer service. I don't like the idea that IF we have a problem, I have to call some MLM person that sold service to me.
I tend to stick with namebrand reliable services who will be there when I call on them.
try RELIANT ENERGY we have used them for two years and their rates are very reasonable
Stream Energy marketed by Ignite, Inc. is a good company with customer service located in Dallas, not overseas. I am an associate with them if you are interested. I'm sorry to say that with gas prices going up, all electricity companies will be raising rates very soon unless one is locked in with a fixed-rate plan. Good luck.

Do you really have a choice of an electricity provider in an apartment complex? Turn off lights, do not run air conditioning at a low temperature... Get a box fan... and a night light for the kitchen/bathroom.
I love Reliant. It's been the cheapest I've heard of.
Stream, tell them that Reliant has offered something.
Have you considered Stream Energy? We have had a good experience with them.
