Texas Power has the best rates & service. Trust me we researched everyone! We have been very happy. We have used them for about two years. texaspoweronline.com
Good Luck!
Am looking into switching our electricity provider from TXU. In regards to customer service, rates, etc., which is best? Stream? Reliant? Direct? Gexa? Would like to hear your preferences. Thanks!!
Wow!! Thanks to everyone who sent information on providers. Such support from other moms! I "plan" on sitting down this weekend to do some further research on providers, the ones which were mentioned so often, and make a decision. Thanks aganin!!

Hello P.,
I have used many providers while on lmy moves but I now use stream energy and also help others use this provider. O love the easy billing and pay options and I never have to calll them for anything. IOf you need help signing up I cant assist you with this,
L.
go to www.powertochoose.org and it will give you a side-by-side comparison. It's the website of the Public Utility Commission of Texas. So, it's honest and unbiased.
Gexa showed to be my best bet after research. But, some areas have different rates. So, what is the best deal for one person might not necessarly be the best bet for you.
Stream is by far the best!! 10.6/kww call me at ###-###-#### or leave me your number....
I've had STream for the last 3 years.
You can go directly to my website and signup for FREE!!!
Scroll down to Powerful Savings then click on Enroll Now...it's that simple...Really!
Thanks!
I have Reliant and love it! If there are any problems, you can actually call them and talk to a person . . . before an hour of waiting like TXU. They're cheaper as well. I've not had problems. Liked them so well that I turned my business over to Reliant as well!
Doc
I use Gexa and I don't know about how their rates compare......but they are really really nice people to deal with on the phone. Sometimes I just want someone to be grateful that i"m spending my hard-earned and LIMITED money with them, and they are always courteous, nice and friendly on the phone.

HI P.,
We switched to Stream 3 or 4 years ago from TXU. My husband and I went to powertochoose.org and looked at a comparitive aspect of ALL electric rates, etc. in Texas. Be careful. Some of the companies listed are cheaper, but there are fees and other charges that may apply.
We just love Stream. Our bills are cheaper than before. The lines are still serviced through TXU. Basically, you are just buying your power from Stream. TXU still owns all of the lines. Stream pays them to take care of our line issues. So, the service has not changed at all. I have a friend who sells Stream. Just shoot him an e-mail and he and get you signed up if you need a representative: Skip ____@____.com
Good luck!

I use Reliant and I really like them. I just started with them in January and when I did my comparison shopping, TXU was giving me a rate of 14.something per kilawat I think and Reliant has a rate of 11.1 so it is quite a bit cheaper. Not to mention the fact that their customer service is hands down far better then TXU, not that that is hard to do. Hope this helps. Happy hunting!
~S.
Reliant, i have been with them about 5yrs bills have been very reasonable.
I too have been looking. Right now we are on Gexa but it did go up about 4 months ago. Had a great rate for over 4 years. I'm now looking at Reliant at a 14 month plan for 11.3 per kwh. Stream is, I think, is about 1 cent higher.
Be sure you check for extra costs.....meter readings, line use, etc.
I have Gexa and love it. I like that you can accumulate AA miles with every bill. I managed to get enough miles to fly myself out to Reno/Tahoe for a week to visit 2 HS friends.
Hi P. -
I switched to Stream almost 3 years ago and I have absolutely loved it! I haven't had to deal much with their service department, but when I do, they are very helpful and knowledgable. My bills have been manageable in the sense that I haven't seen a bill over $350 in the summertime and when I was with TXU, my bill would be almost $500 for one month. I have the same equipment, no upgrades or anything and i feel like it was the right choice for me. BTW - if it helps, my house is approx 2200 sq ft.
Cirro energy!!!!! I switched after my bill with TXU was $300! (I'm in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment). Since being with Cirro for about a year & a half now, the largest bill I've paid was $200, & that was in the middle of winter, heater on 24/7, christmas lights & everything. During the summer I average about $130. I've never been happier! The service is great too! If you call after hours they have a service center that your call goes to, (a live person), & they'll get your contact info & give it to a rep to call you back the next day. And they've always been good about calling as early as possible the next day. I love 'em!!!
I would encourage you to check out Green Mountain Energy. It's 100 percent renewable energy and costs the same as TXU. We've been customers for years and have had no complaints. TXU (Oncor) still does the delivery, so they take care of physical service problems.
I've been very happy with Green Mountain www.greenmountain.com
I pay a lot less than I did with TXU, even though they said I would pay slightly more. It's also a company that sets up renewable energy, which makes me feel good.
Teri
I switched to Cirro several years ago and have been very happy with them. I chose them because I have a friend who used to work with TXU and now runs a consulting business on energy choices and he recommended them.
One poster stated it is almost impossible to compare because they all calculate differently. It is true that they all calculate differently, but you can still compare. Look at your most recent bill. It will tell you how many kilowatt hours you used. Then when you call around ask them if you had used that many kilowatt hours with them last month, how much would your bill have been.
When I asked that question to Reliant, they had no idea what to tell me ??? So much for them.
Cirro calculated it and gave me an amount to the penny and that amount was almost $100 less than I had paid to TXU. Their customer service is outstanding.
We use Stream Energy and have been with them for about 2 years. We have not had a problem with them at all. With the exception that AEP read our meter wrong and we had a $300 bill but the next month it was only $15. Our rate is set to 14.5 and is set for 3 years. They are a great company. I've heard nothing but bad things about Reliant and there customer service. Hope this helps.
Sam
We really like Texas Power.
We had been with Direct Energy for several years being they were cheaper than TXU. Being busy, I never stopped to look at rates. For the past year and who knows longer, we were paying 14.3 per KWH. So, I got online and did my homework. I know they are low where they quote online but then they go up later and they know you will get busy and not check. So, I decided to go green with Amigo Oil out of Houston. We live in Irving. Found them through Whitefence.com with is under Green Energy. However, I ended up calling them direct to get the 12 month lockin. This is all renewable fuel being it is solar, wind, etc without burning coal or natural gas that has terrible emmissions. I was able to lock in my 12 cent rate per KWH for a year with it being renewable at the end of the term. I just want to try to do my part in having a better enviroment for my grandchildren and I am saving money doing it. Like the earlier post, it makes me feel good to do something that doesn't harm the air we breathe. We do have choices.
You should call Margaret Kahn. She sells Ignite. You will save money and it is easy to switch. Her cell# is ###-###-####. She is really good at explaining everything and her website is great, too!
Best of luck!
A.
look into stream energy when we switched our bill got cut in half and my husband now sells it on the side. They use no advertising other than word of mouth, so you'll have to look online. If you have any problems finding feel free to email me and I'll see what I can do. YOu don't have to sign a contract and like I said our bill with TXU went from about $180-$190 to $90-$98 per month. And in Texas it doesn't matter who you pay the same people who own the lines(usualy either TXU or Reliant) maintain them.
Hope that Helps
J.
Try the website www.powertochoose.org, you will enter your zip and it will give you a listing of all the electric co's in your area and their current offers.
Since electricity is dereg'd in Texas you have no concern about being serviced in the event of a power outage even if you switch from TXU. By law, they cannot refuse you service.
Since electricity is a straight commodity we go strictly by price - none of the companies have any real differentiator.
Hope this helps.
We've been extremely happy with our switch to Stream! Not only are the bills MUCH lower, but they have real people to talk to if you ever have to call about service, your bill or any other concerns! Information is available online or through referred contact. Feel free to e-mail me if you'd like more information.
We have used Stream for the last 2 years and have been very happy with their competative rates. We liked them so much we joined as representatives and I do it as a business on the side to generate some extra income. YOu can do a fixed rate plan or do month to month as well as average billing.
Please take a moment to visit our website at less4energy.com where you can get a lot of good information and even sign up on line.
If you would like to talk further, you can contact me off that website.
thank you for taking the time to support another mom's business!
We switched to Stream about a year ago and have been very happy with them. Our bills seem to be a lot more consistent price-wise. We had average billing with TXU, and even then our payments changed drastically every month. We'd end up overpaying by several hundred dollars over the year, and they would credit it back at inconsistent times. Stream has one locked in rate and are very pleasant to deal with.
We have tried the switch and came back to TXU. If you watch the rates of all of them over a period of one year, you will find the lower rates flip flop and don't make any significant difference. Remember that Stream is sold by a Multi-Level Marketing Company and will vary in their rates over one year.

May God Bless You!
We switched to StarTex power months ago. It has been great. I did all the switching online. We've had no problems and much lower bills. Even better, there is no contract.
We've been with Reliant for quite a while now and have been pleased with our rates...looked into other options, and haven't seen a reason to switch. I even had a rep from TXU say I had a great rate. No complaints here :-)
Hi P.,
My stepmother just got involved with ambit. It is a network marketing business that provides electricity at a cheaper rate than most companies. Her website is:
http://energyempower.joinambit.com
The website has a calculator tool where you can plug in numbers to compare rates.
Good luck!
I have Stream - I'm planning to switch the minute my one year contract is up. The salespeople are great - the customer service, in my experience, um... Sucks. Like a Hoover.
S.
Interestingly enough, I was looking to change providers as well, when our contract was up with Reliant. So, I checked out the rates at powertochoose.org and then started making phone calls. I was excited to see rates as low as 11.2 cents and was ready to switch because we were paying 12.4 cents with Reliant. Then I did the math. On top of the 11.2 cents, they were charging meter reading charges of 4.95 plus a monthly service charge of 4.95 and this brings your rate to 12.8 cents. I think I would rather stick with my 12.4 with Reliant than have all of the extra fees. We have had no problems with Reliant, I was just shopping around. Hope that helps.
ELECTRIC PROVIDER-The electric company name I am telling you about is Stream Energy. If you have never heard of it, it's because it is not an advertised business. People like me sign up to sell it just like a home business. (If you are interested in learning more about selling electricity, just let me know) It is one of the fastest growing businesses because it sells the best, not only because Stream has the lowest rates around, but because it is based on word of mouth and friend relationships so there is no need for advertisement. The price per kilowatt is 10.4. WHAT INFORMATION DO I HAVE TO PROVIDE IF I CHOOSE TO SWITCH? The only information we need to switch over a customer is the customers 1st and last name. Drivers license and state it was issued. SS#. Full service address, including street address, city, state, zip code. Billing address, if different. Home and/or cell phone. Plan you wish to have. After that you will need to make a conformation call to verify that you truly swiched over. WHAT ARE THE PLANS TO CHOOSE FROM? You can choice a month to month, 6 month, year plan, or green plan. This only means that your price per kilowatt will not change for however long your plan choice is. HOW DO I CHOICE A PLAN- The green plan is the most expensive out of them all, but if you are trying to help save the enviorment this is the plan for you. The year plan starts off a little higher, but if you plan on electricity prices to go up (and for he mot part they do) then you will want to choose this plan. The 6 month plan is usually the cheapest plan and the most preferred plan. The month to month plan can go up or down each month and you will not have a fixed rate, so if electrsity prices jump, so will your bill. WHAT IF I DEESIDE TO CANCEL? You can cancel your plan, change it, or even switch service providers at any time with no cancelation fees what so ever. Even if you choose the year long plan, at any time you can cancel your service without any fees. No other electric company does that. You will not have to pay any activation fees, monthly customer fees, and as long as you haven't been late paying your electric bill more than once this past year you won't have to pay a good faith deposit either. If you end up paying this fee, you can get your money back only if you are not late paying your bill more than once that year. If you deside to switch and try it out, have any quetions, or just want to talk about his via phone just give me a call. My name is Tarrin Thompson and my # is 214-76-1802. Have a great day and I am looking forward to hearing from you.
P., I highly recommend Gexa, we have used them for 3 years now and will never go back to TXU... Our bill is never over $150.. our highest bill was around 200 but my mom stayed uwith us for awhile... we couldn't wait to leave TXU, we lived in a 1 bedroom/ 1 bth and the rate was always 130 - 150.. ridiculous!!! We moved to a 2bd/ 2bth about 1100 sq ft and the bill amount was around the same... now we have moved into a 3brd / 2bth 1800sq ft home and the bill amount hasn't changed... And keep in mind I am a SAHM with something running allday... Anytime I have a problem I call and always get great service... Depending on where you live just compare the rates... unlike some of the companies, a contract is required, but Gexa doesn't require a contract...
I was with Gexa for a couple of years - can't complain too much about their rates, but the customer service is absolutely abyssmal and now we're having to fight with them over the final bill since we finally had enough and switched. I would avoid Gexa.
I was with Direct Energy for several years, excellent service, never a problem. A few months back I switched to Reliant, again, excellent service and no problems. Don't be afraid to go with either of these company's.
Hello P.,
I switched my electricity provider last July from Reliant to Commerce Energy and I love it. I have a 5000 sq. ft. home and my bill is consistantly low. I also have a gas water heater and furnance but, even with all three units on at 70 degrees this winter, I have not recieved a bill over $230. Even the last few cooling bills were not over $350. I love them. www.commerceenergy.com
Hope this helps!
I have Stream at a rate of 12.9 cents per kilowatt. They are okay. Their on-line billing isn't all that great: they charge you 2.95 to do it. I quit on-line pay after they took the payment out of my account twice one month. Also to get that rate, I had to sign a 3 year contract, and cancellation penalties are huge. All in all, the electricity works and it has saved me money (I was with Green Mountain before- they have good service, but are more expensive).
We switched to reliant when we moved to Ennis. The deposit is not very large. And the service is good. We have had no outages. They give you a set rate and that rate is set for 12 months. I like them ..............
Hello P.,
As a Stream user and representative I am happy to say that I have been very happy with stream. They are ahead of the game in customer service and care about you! With the deregulation of electricity (and gas is soon to come) Stream is the fastest growing company in the U.S. I have a lot of information and comparison rates and would sincerely appreciate the opportunity to share it with you and show you how you can not only save money on your electric service but also can enjoy the benefits of the business. No pressure...just opportunity! Give me a call at ###-###-#### on my cell. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you!! B. H.
Hi P.,
I know how you feel about the high prices of electricty. I would highly recomend ambit. My husband is a consulant of ambit energy. We have friends who are use to be consulants of stream. Now they are with ambit.
Look at your energy bill with TXU. If you are paying more than 9.9kwh then please send me an e-mail. We have a website that you can go and check out. I understand if you may have concerns or questions about switching providers. Everybody does. I can try to help any way I can. Before I forget, there is not contracts,etc..

Once you go to the website click on service tab. That will tell you what info you need, pluss the perks you get just for switching.

You can actually go onto the internet at powertochoose.org and it will show all of the available companies in your area. We chose GEXA and have been extremely satisfied! GOod luck!
stream energy is great been there for a year check out my sight
www.edithduncan.igniteinc.biz
I do think you will see a big difference
Stream!!!! I was with reliant but switched and get into their fixed rate plan, you will have to sighn a 2 year contract but they can not go up on your rate. Look into it, I have rally enjoyed them!!
Definitely Stream. Even when hurricane Katrina and Rita caused rates to go up, Stream held its prices with their current customers. And they have offices right here in Texas, not overseas. So when you call customer service you get someone who speaks "Texan". And I can help you switch. I actually became a Stream associate. It is an amazing business and you may even want to consider not only switching but looking as this for another source of income. What a perfect business, no overhead, no inventory and something everyone needs. Plus you only need 10 customers yourself. Check it out at www.sherrimccarter.igniteinc.biz. I know I am glad I took the time. Or call me, ###-###-####. I can help answer any questions.
Thanks,
S.
Ambit and the number to call is my friend as it is a network business if you want it. Cheaper anything is but TXU. They raised prices a year ago or so and I went with Texas Power or shineon and they were good too but found out Ambit is only 10.99 per kilwats or whatever and even cheaper. Phone ###-###-#### Angela will be able to set you up and get a customer as well. G. W
P.: Ambit Energy has a low 9.9 cent per KWH and no switching fee and no other fees just the regular state taxes. Hi, i know a lady named Andrea Kelly, she works for ambient energy and has great rates...can save you a lot!!! Here is her website and some info for you!
www.andreamkelly.ambitenergy.biz When you get to
the main page Learn more under "Our Service" will answer most of your
questions and there is a link to quote your savings. This will tell you
how much you could save by switching to Ambit Energy. When you are ready
to switch click on the "enroll for the service" link. If you have any
questions, please do not hesitate to call me.
If you sign up for the one year contract you get an entire year at 10.99 cents per kwh. If you don't want a contract the rate is currently 11.49 cents per kwh (used to be 11.99 for contract and 12.49 for month to month, but went down on November 1st.) For month to month, rate will change if company raises or lower rate again. If you qualify they may offer you average billing so your bill is averaged over a year and you aren't hit with huge bills in the summer or winter.
good luck
S. K
go to www.currentenergy.com They are a broker with several providers and can find a provider that fits your needs, whether they are price, green, service, etc. They also have a store on Knox St. & McKinney, just E. of 75, that you can switch in there as well. Check it out. Goood people.
P.,
We had Gexa and they raised our rates to 13.67...My last 2 bills were 521.00 and 384.00 and I have a house less than 1500 sq feet. I do work from home as an inhome daycare provider so I do have more going on during the day than most and we do have a pool. But, I did feel that it was too high. I had no problems with Gexa. I paid online. But, I needed a cheaper rate. I too asked this question on Mamasource and after checking out the different rates, we went with Ambit. I won't get a bill from them until March but my rate is much lower and fixed for 1 year. If it goes up, I'll just switch again. Best of luck! L.
Green Mountain Energy. You can sign up for 100% wind powered energy and I found it was close to the same cost as my prior carrier. I got a rate of 14.73 cents/kw. It's great peace of mind that Im contributing to a greener day.
Stream Energy is my choice. Not sure what they are offering for first timers now, but I signed up for 11.8 per kwh last year and have been saving a good bit on electricity.

hello. My husband and I use starlight. It's pretty good. I have been there now for 2 years. We livein Abilene. Sometimes its expensive and sometimes its cheap. Right now I think we pay $200.00.
I looked on www.saveonenergy.com for a comparison. They have a really good list of companies and the rates they charge. I chose Hudson Energy out of Irving. They had the best rate, no monthly fees and great service so far.
Honestly, they are all about the same. We have been on Stream for a four years now and I recently decided to call around and try to check prices. They all have a different way to price out their plans so it makes it impossible to compare. I gave up and I am very interested to see if anyone has any ideas. I will be watching your request! Good Luck, P.!
My hubby and I switch to Stream from TXU and we have been very pleased. Our bills used to run over $150 dollars and with Stream we have yet to have a energy bill over $100 dollars. We heat and cool with gas and also have a gas water heater and gas stove, though.
We have Gexa. The rates are 9.54 cents per kilowatt hour. We have been happy with them. Customer Service too.
Please contact Dynowatt (dynowatt.com) !!! We have had their service for almost two years now and we are extremely pleased!! All of my neighbors have had $200-300 electric bills (with TXU, WTU, etc)and ours has never been $200. And I work only part-time outside of our home, so I am home during the week. We keep the house comfortable (not too cold, not too hot). Also, Dynowatt does not require you to sign a year contract. So, you can try them for a couple of months and switch if you need to. Hope this info helps!!
We switched to Stream energy about a year ago and have been very pleased with the service and rates provided. They even gave us an offer to lock in our kwph rate so that it wouldn't change. I have been nothing but satisfied with them and would highly recommend this company; we also switched from TXU for the same reasons as you listed. Hope this helps!
We switch providers 4 times before going with Reliant. Their customer service is better than the competition, although it could still use a little work. Their rates seem to be competitive with the rest.
I recently did research and settled on Ambit. I can help you get set up if you would like.
Stream Energy is the way to go! You will save money each month, no doubt about it!
Plus this is an awesome business. I too am a stay at home mom, and this business is life changing!! There is serious money to be made and it is awesome to be able to help friends and family save money on something everyone already pays for each month, usually without a second thought.
Mindy Duran replied to you and she is a wonderful person to speak to about the business. Or to simply become a customer is super-easy. Visit her website at http://mduran.igniteinc.biz. Watch the video about the Ignite Inc. opportunity or simply enroll for service.
If you have any questions, let us know!
Best of luck and many blessings,

Stream has been great to us and they curently have a special running....not exacty sure of details but I'd encourage you to consider locking in some where....if what i hear about rising electricity rates is true you will be glad you did! We locked in at 11.8 a year ago and it has been great with 4 kids and all their friends running in and out all day! :)

Steam energy has one of the best rates available. I have had the service for over a year now and have seen a dramatic decrease in my overall billing. As a matter of fact, I became a representative for the business. It takes 2 minutes to switch your service and no fees to do so. The only differences you'll notice are a different envelope in your mailbox and a lower number in that envelope. You can check out the rates on my website and change your service at www.ihaveachildincollege.igniteinc.biz. If you have any questions my e-mail address is ____@____.com a blessed day P..
In 2006 I switched from TXU to Texas Power. I live in a 5300+ sq.ft. house which we built from the ground up, so I know that we put every available energy saving feature into our house. We make sure we turn off unused lights, etc. Needless to say we got tired of receiving bills for $500+, then $600+, until our bills were close to $800 per month in the hot summer months. Not to mention that we were on average billing and not even paying the entire bill each month. We finally made the switch to Texas Power and couldn't be happier. Our highest bill in 2 years was this past December, and it was almost $500. BUT, we had extensive outdoor Christmas lighting and 5 Christmas trees in the house, so we decided that will all the extra lights the bill was reasonable.
I know that Texas Power is a christian based company out of Arlington. When you call Texas Power you actually get a representative that you can understand. There are no contracts and they took care of switching me for free. You don't even get charged all those line item fees that TXU charges. I think there is a minimum per kilowatt house usage required to avoid a meter reading fee, but the minimum is so low that any average family will easily meet the minimum.
Since my family switched over to Texas Power, my parents and sister have done the same as well as a few of our friends. The greatest freedom that we have felt is that we don't have to use "average billing" any more. We are able to pay what we use every month.
Look Texas Power up at www.TexasPowerOnline.com.
Another resource for comparing electric providers is www.PowerToChoose.org. The website will ask you for your zip code and it will list in comparative chart form all providers that service your area. It will also tell you the current kilowatt rate charged, any promotions available, and other important info.
Good luck!!
Hey P. - saw your message and thought I'd respond. I work for Stream Energy - which is an electricity provider in your area. We offer AWESOME rates - and our main offices are in Dallas. Check out my website - mduran.igniteinc.biz or call me at ###-###-####.
Stream not only offers good rates - there is also an amazing business opportunity that is IDEAL for stay-at-home moms like you.
I hope to hear from you soon - M. Duran
We have nothing but high praises for stream. We are loving it. The highest we had all summer was between 150 to 175. When we had txu it was a whole lot higher. So have saved between 3 to 4 hundred dollars by changing. Good luck on the change on whom ever you decide.
We got on a good plan with Direct Energy. With the high costs of electricity now and some of our bills range $400-$500 a month during 3 months out of the year, Direct Energy has been great allowing us to pay in payments since we are a single income family. It has really helped and they don't penalize us. Good Luck!

There is a website you can log on to: powertochoose.org that will list the different electric providers and their rates. I personally switched to First Choice Power and have been happy with them.
It has been my experience that pricing will be close to the same with all companies. The way to save $ is to sign a contract with one of the companies agreeing to stay with them for a prescribed amount of time.
This is turning out to be the "mode of operation" for many service companies, i.e. cable, electricity, cell phone, etc..
