We are taking the family camping next week. We have done some hiking in the last few days and the mosquitoes have been awful. And I am sure the campsite will be just as bad.

In the past my husband and I have used the 100% Deet for ourselves. And Off Skintastic for the kids. Now that I am pregnant, I'm thinking that the 100% Deet isnt such a great idea for me. I see my OB on Monday, I am going to ask his recommendation for what he thinks is safe.

I have seen different OFF products advertised, the clip on, the fan, and there are a variety of sprays.
Is there anything that you have had great success with??? Both for your personal use and to keep the bugs away from the campsite?? PLEASE SHARE!! :)

As for personal use for you and your kids I would recommend Avon's skin so soft with bug guard. It works great! It doesn't have that nasty smell like OFF does. Doesn't leave a sticky residue either. Comes in tubes or wipes so that it is easy to store. As for out side.... believe it or not.... keep a spray bottle of Listerine and spray it around the area that you are in works like a charm! Oh! you can also use Bounce dryer sheets to get rid of bugs. Just rub it on your arms and legs and then put one in your belt loop or pin it to your shorts. That really works too. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Hey mom,

I would say buy one of those bug repelents you don't have to wash off afterwards.

I got one from AVON that doesn't wash off and acts as a SPF aswell.

I Know other friends bought something similar from Walmart

This is kind of a strange one I know, but since you are pregnant and want to be extra safe... garlic. As a child I had always found that when my family had a very garlicky chinese or italian meal, the mosquitoes would always tend to leave us alone, then a friend told me that if you eat a lot the bugs can smell it through your pores and they do NOT like it.

Another option is skin so soft, which is just a lotion which (accidentally) was also found to repel mosquitoes pretty effectively.

Good Luck!
