Has anyone had those mosquito control systems installed? If so: 1) Approximately how much does it cost? Our house is on a normal sized, quarter acre lot. I hear they are in the thousands; 2) How effective are they? Is it worth it? 3) Is there a company you would recommend?

Hi RW,
We put in a system with MesquitoNIX and we LOVE it. We were unable to play outside without spraying and even then the kids would get bites. NOT ONE BITE so far this year and no spray! It is awesome. I did a lot of research before we hired a company and had three estimates done. We chose MesquitoNIX because it is all they do- so they do it well and have a great service reputation. They were not the cheapest but had the best warranty and referrals. If you do call them, please tell them that A. Moore in Southlake sent you. I do get a free refill on my solution for a referral. We used Jeff as our salesman and was vey patient and attentive. It has been worth it for us and we were so worried about the cost but it is a huge peace of mind knowing that my kids are protected. Good LUCK!!

Wow. I've heard of these systems. I'm not sure what chemicals they use, I hope they are not toxic. Anyway, we are using garlic oil concentrate, mixed with water and soap as a mosquito repellent. The mixture is put into a pump sprayer (like for pesticides) and it keeps the mosquitoes away for a few days. But, at least I know the garlic oil is not toxic for my son. It only smells when you are preparing the mixture. You really don't smell it after it dries. Please look into it. We got two bottles for $50? Google garlic oil mosquito repellent.

We put one in about 3 years ago and LOVE it. It actually was a little less than I expected it to be, but it wasn't cheap. I think the bottom line was around $2100. BUT we have so many trees in our backyard that in the summer the mosquitoes are extremely dense and we can't use the yard. Because of the system we are able to go outside.

THE drawback is that the company that put it in went out of business then the one I used for refills did and now we are on to business #3. None of them have given service that I could recommend. It is a business that people can open easily and make a few quick bucks and then disappear...so beware.

I have not had them price it but though alot of live and learn experiences I go with well knowns. Terminix has offered this service because my 4 yo has allergies to mosquitos. They install the tubing under your eaves and around you fence (not sure if it has to be wood) they put in a canister and fill and set it. In the wint they come out and winterize it and come back in the spring to get it up and running again. If you have any problems with it they fix it. I will say with the economy look for companies that have been around forever and get at least 3 estimates they are free and compare their service and price and make sure you ask specifically what they cover and what they don't and what their canister refill price is and if they cahrge a service call with this refill price as extra or is it included. If a jet quits working do they charge to come out and fix it. Learned this from culligan. They charged me 200 to come out and purge my tanks when they got to much air in them and it turned out to be a faulty valve 4 months after install. I have a termite and pest control contract and bond with terminix, I recently had a water leak in basement and we tore off the sheetrock to see where. While I am waiting a week for the insurance adjuster to come out terminix came for their yearly inspection and told me the damage in the wall was not water damage but termites. With my bond they are coming today to treat for termites and are repairing the structure damage caused by them at no additional charge. I pay a yearly bond protection which is nothing compared to the cost of this repair. Make darn sure if they tell you something will be covered it is in writing and signed by them.

I know I am a little late responding to this but thought you still might want more info. My husband and I own a pest control company and we also install Mosquito Misting Systems. We installed one in our yard and loved it so much we installed one for my parents as a gift, also so we could enjoy their swimming pool without being eaten alive. For a normal size yard the price is typically $1800 - $2100 depending on the amount of heads that need to be used. They are normally installed every 10 feet around the fence and under the eaves of your home. I was amazed at the difference in our own yard and now my kids can play on their playground/swingset without me having to constantly worry they are getting eaten alive. I know a lot of the other companies charge a minimum of $2200 to install these systems. We are trying to not overcharge but have to cover the cost of the materials which are not cheap. If you have any questions you can send me a message or call me at my business, Pesky Pest Control ###-###-####, we are located in Allen, we are a small company and either me or my husband answers the phone. I hope this helps.

I use the garlic oil spray also. I spray it myself, but Elizabeth Anna's Old World Nursery will do it for you. A 1/4 acre lot is not a lot to cover and one application will last for about 3-4 weeks, depending on rain. It really works well!

Peace,
M.
