I use Arbonne Baby Care diaper Rash Ointment. The products are herbal and botanical based. It is great, soaks right in no bandaid needed and no mess. The product has lots of other uses as well. Call me and I will explain. To long to type.
I have a 8 months little girl and we love to take a ride in the stroller during afternoons when I arrive home. This past week I've noticed that there is a lot of mosquitos arround (I guess is because of rain), so I covered the stroller but 2 or 3 times she got a mosquito bite in her face or in her arms. I put some "vaseline" in the bite but I would like to know what other moms do with a simple mosquito bite.
Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer my request!!! I really learned a lot from all of you!!! I got the Avon's Skin So Soft repellent and is working great!!!!

To treat the mosquito bite, Just keep the area very clean and dry, And it should be good in a cuple of day's. If if does'nt look nice in a cuple of day's. You can use some Neosporin (clean the area with water & soap, dry it and then apply some Neosporin with a Q-tips).
But you can also use this lotion as a prevention if you just do want to wait till it get's ugly, it will do no harm.
Put a natural (not the one that have deet) mosquito repelent in her exposed areas. They are formulated with plant extracts, so maybe you want to put some in a small area of skin and see if she is not allergic.
DONT USE DEODORANTS CONTAINING ALUMINUM TO SOOTHE BUGS BITES

Hi P.,
When my kids get bug bites, I use the Bitecare Gel from Boiron. You can purchase it at any healthfood store (I know WholeFoods carries it). I would ask the pediatrician about using it on a baby. It does a great job of reducing itching and swelling.
Sincerely,
L.
You can use triple antibiotic. Works wonders.
there's a product called UNPETROLEUM that is vaseline-like (only without the petroleum) and you can buy it at whole foods (I always have some at home for those cases where I might want a vaseline-type item)
also: not sure about the 'safety' of this for an 8 month old, but I just put Campho-phenique on my 5yr old's mesquito bite & he reports that it works!!!
I would think it's fine, since it's topical (not ingested) but you might want to look at the lable, etc...

hello P.,
well 2 things you should consider:
1st how to protect her more before you go out, you should look for a cream to oint her (either in any regular store even off at a natural formula or in a whole food store, they even do now some that are sunblocker at the same time).
2nd how to calm the itch after, and here is a secret put some vicks vaporub it work like magic on bites
take care
You can put mosquito repellent on her before you go out. There are mild repellents that are made for children which won't hurt her skin. Avon's Skin So Soft helps keep bugs away too, I have heard.
If she gets a bite, don't put vaseline on it. That won't help, and can make the bite infected because the sore can't get any air. Take a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol on a tissue and dab at the little bite, then take a little aloe vera gel and dab it on. The alcohol will take away the itch and clean the bite, and then the aloe will help the skin heal faster.
The pedriatic doctor told me to protect our grandaughter against mosquitoes spraying over her clothes repellent, and using clothes with not to brilliant colors.
Hi P.:
I have had the same problem with my 4 year old son. A product called Melaleuca Oil or MelaGel made by Melaleuca Inc.
Hi P.,
Don't you hate those mosquitos? We live in Florida so we have definitely had our share of mosquito bites... I have found that Melaleuca oil (also know as Tea Tree Oil) is great for mosquito bites. It can also be used along with other ingredients as a natural repellant. My three children, my husband and I have all used this product and found it very helpful.

Hi P.,
Please don't use Vaseline, it's petroleum (the same stuff you put in your car) and it dries skin out.
I like the natural insect repellent from Whole Foods.
To soothe the bites use a natural moisturizer.
I have some or you can go to Whole Foods for that too.
Good luck,
S.

I dont know if you are aware or not but you can call Broward County Mosquito Control and they will come spray within a block radius of your house for free.. Just look it up, i can't recall the number right now. I call every few months when it is like this outside, and we pay for it with our taxes..
Also instead of vaseline put that peach stuff, i think it is caladryl or something like that, ask the pharmacist.
Target brand Anti Itch Treatment or After Bite (brand name). Works great!
My mother-in-law taught me a trick that simple First Aid cream or even diaper rash ointment can stop the irritation. And my mother gave me a miracle After-Bite which is only ammonia. Both stop the ithing and help it to heal. Band-aids can help your child to keep from scratching and makes them feel better, most of the time. I've been through the worst getting used to the mosquitos. They seem to attack the little ones, don't they? Just remember not to use deet. there's a repellant without and it works. But I can't remember the name right now. Hopefully you don't have to cut out the walking. It's so good for the kids. - And us!
It's a little stinky, but we use a bit of onion, assuming I have some in the kitchen. It takes the sting and itch from mosquito and bee stings. We use witch hazel for fire ant bites and this works well as long as it's used quickly after bites. It may also work of mosquitos.
Hi P.
Try witchazel after the bite. Before there are several homeopathic insect repelent creams and sprays, check out your local health food store.
You should try to protect her against bites first. If you are against using DEET, which is the recommended product, there are lots of more non chemical, organic or natural formulas out there. A lot of people swear by AVON's Skin So Soft. There are also citronella formulas. Some work, some don't - it's a little bit of trial and error.
If she does get bites, we use Calamine lotion to soothe them. I have also heard that the aluminum in most stick/roll on deodorants/antiperspirants are good at soothing bug bites.
