Mortifying Puberty Moments - JFF - Anyone Want to Share?

LOL - piggy back of an earlier question about a mom wondering how to help her daughter get through the early stages of puberty and her period.

Made me think of all the awful moments that accompany puberty...and I couldn't help but cringe/sigh when I realized all the things that happened.

I think the worst was spending the night at friends house when I was about 12 - getting my period - being too embarrassed to tell her Mom - and trying to find pads/tampons in their bathroom - no luck - and totally staining/ruining the sheets on the guest bed.

Gag - this is why I would NEVER NEVER NEVER want to be 12 years old again...what a horrible time.! :-)

Anyone else care to share their private shame publicly? :-)

What can I do next?

I don't think there's enough room on this website to contain all my embarassing moments as a teenager.
Thank you for making me remember to appreciate being a grown up!

not my story, but my cousin's. She was about 55. She went to a family party in the country. No stores open, & ended up wearing a jacket around her waist....because she started on the road (unexpectedly) & had zero supplies with her. Oh, the joys of early menopause! You think you're all done & then....bammm...you start. :)

Soooo, not a puberty story, but an evil Aunt Flo story! :)

Oh, & lesson learned....I always carry supplies with me & in both vehicles!

I have to say the worst memory for me was saving up money when I didn't have a job to buy tampons. My mom refused to buy them for me because I would no longer be a virgin. That comment should give you a good indication of the level of knowledge she gave me on the subject. Thank god my school had sex ed or I probably would have been a mess. :(

Church car wash. The joy bus came to pick me up. I had my usual, white tshirt, jeans and tennies on. We get to the car wash and all the guys are being so nice to me and paying so much more attention to me than usual. As a 12 yr old girl I was loving it. Till one of the lady youth pastors took me aside and gave me a jacket to put on over my wet t-shirt! I didn't even realize it, but I needed a bra and all the boys could see through my wet t-shirt. I was bright red, embarassed, wanted to leave but couldn't because I had ridden the church bus. I never went braless again after that day!

I was unable to get one of my first tampons out. I was changing it too early, so it was dry, and if felt like my insides would come out with it . I was also at a friends house and was afraid I'd have to tell someone and that her father, a surgeon, would have to take it out for me. With that thought in mind I decided it didn't matter if my insides came out with the tampon. So with tears I pulled like hell working through the foreign feeling of pulling out a dry tampon. Later my sister told me how to pull it out closer to the base instead of by the end of the string.

I remember having to argue with my father about which brand of tampon I wanted to use right in the middle of the store. He is not a quiet person so I am sure everyone in a ten aisle radius could hear and that is no exaggeration. I distinctly remember him asking, "Do you have to use a brand that is so expensive?" Thanks, Dad. The all around crunch factor was enormously high as it was but thanks for helping it reach new heights. I am so eternally grateful I am a grown up and don't have to deal with that again.

Oh lord I started my first period on a ski trip when I was 12ish. Back when pads were like mattresses. Yep, think I skied bowlegged that time.

Then there was the time I started in school and a classmate gave me a tampon - I had never used one. Needless to say I didn't get it right and found it majorly uncomfortable. Ugh, still hate them. LOL

My dad wound up being a single Dad when I was 13. When I needed feminine protection I just put it on the grocery list - he shopped every Friday night. I was well into my late teens and out with a girlfriend once when I needed pads. We go to the local Rite Aid type store and I stand there on the feminine protection aisle just staring at the array of products. She says "just grab what you need". At that point I had to admit I really didn't know what brand I used as they always just magically appeared in the bathroom cabinet. He also changed the brand/style occasionally based on tv commercials he saw - when thin pads where introduced, then when the ones with "wings" came out. Of course, my dad and I never ever, ever, discussed the magically appearing feminine protection. LOL

Hmmm, I still use the thin ones with wings.

Oh my gosh I remember being 9 and spending the night at friends houses and starting my period!! That was my awful moment at 9 years old!!! And having everyone in the classroom asking me why did I have to keep going to the school nurse, and why are you the only one that gets to watch those movies?? (the puberty ones!! when only 3 of us were in the room watching the film we were too afraid to ask each other why we thought we were in there!!) I also remember a horrifying moment with my youngest son last year. He must have been in the bathroom, doing you-know-what, because he came out and asked me all these AWFUL questions that he should have been asking his dad!!! I'll let your mind wonder what those questions were, and you will probably be right!!! I guess I'm glad my boys feel comfortable asking me all that stuff, because they sure do ask!!!
Fun question!!!

Oh gosh, I remember my first period all too well....I was in 7th grade, I knew what a period was but what I didn't know is that a period doesn't bleed non-stop. I remember half way through day 2, I wasn't bleeding anymore so I assumed my period was done took my pad off and threw it away, only to realize in 6th period art class, I felt a very "wet" something so I asked to go use the bathroom, not realizing I had already leaked some through my denim skirt! I put toilet paper in my underwear, ran to my locker to get another pad and realized the toilet paper was slipping so I walked so stupid all the way down the hall to the bathroom. I was HUMILIATED!! I soon realized periods stop and start for a week, you don't bleed continuously, lol!! For the rest of the class and onto 7th period I walked with a text book behind me, like I was casually doing so, i'm sure it looked awkward but I didn't want anyone to see the blood on my skirt! When I got home, my older sister noticed immediately and asked what it was so I lied and told her I sat in ketchup at lunch. Wow, what a horrible day that was:/

I was a late bloomer, didn't start until I was 15, and on top of that I was painfully shy. Well, my english teacher when I was a senior was HOT - probably 2 years out of college, muscular, wavy black hair - HOT. Well, I went into his class one morning, and dropped my purse and books on my desk and decided to run to the bathroom before the bell rang. (You can see where this is going....) - I get to the bathroom and discover that I'd started my period and my purse was in the classroom. Knowing that I couldn't run and get my purse and re-visit the bathroom before the bell, I had to grab my purse and tell Mr. Hot muscles that I needed to go BACK to the bathroom. OMG - just shoot me now! LOL....

I think the worse was having to take sex Ed 4 times! I moved overseas and arrived at school 1 just as they were finishing so I had to take it the following year, but ended up having to changed to school 2 in the middle of that year, only got the first part of sex ed. SO new school 2 was in the middle of their sex ed so I once again got the tail end and but had to take it the following year, but once more changed schools in the middle so only go the first half again! Back at school 1 and once more got the tail end of the class and finally told them enough was enough, I took the course end test and passed with no errors. Not bad for having sex ed back to front.

I started my periods at 10, so at 12 i was a pro. But walking home from school one day with my best friend a high school student (the high school was right down the block) came up close behind me and whispered, "You might want to get to a restroom, there's a red spot on the back of your dress!" smiled nicely and kept walking. My friend checked and yep, I had started and had stained the back of my cute 60's yellow and white gingham shift dress :(

We cut across the street to the park so I could use the restroom there, she blocking the view to my dress the entire way. I washed out my underwear and the stain out of my dress with the hand soap, bought some protection, she kept watch at the door for me. I put my wrung out underwear on, and we sat in the swings and talked until I was dry (I didn't want to attract any more attention to myself walking the rest of the way and it was a sunny day) and then went home. All was well, whew!

I think this is why I have made up little accident bags for my daughter when she was young and now my granddaughter to carry in their backpacks...a couple of pads and tampons, clean underwear, cleansing wipes, deodorant, etc., in a cute cosmetic bag, so they could be prepared : )

I had two - one was when I was in 5th grade running track and my PE teacher stopped me and said she needed to talk to my mom. Apparently she told my mom I needed to start wearing bras because when I ran there was obvious bouncing.
The other one was about a year later, we had Christmas at our house that year and when my grandparents were leaving my grandmother pulled my shirt down real taught and told my mom "Oh her boobies are coming in!"
