I am almost 7 weeks pregnant and MISERABLE! The "morning" sickness has slowly been kicking in for the last week or so. I don't have morning sickness so much as I have all-day sickness. It's gotten to the point where I'm nauseous all day long, nothing sounds good to eat and if I force myself to eat...well let's just say it doesn't end well. I've tried Club crackers and Ginger Ale (which worked with my 7 year old), just Ginger Ale, not eating (which isn't much of an option), eating and just dealing with the aftermath. I'm running out of ideas and sanity! What kind of sick joke is it to make a pregnant women nauseous, hungry and unable to eat?! :(
I need help. Anything and everything that worked for you ladies while pregnant...please tell me! Something has got to give.
First, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your tips and tricks. I actually tried most of them. However, I knew I was in way over my head when I couldn't even tolerate the SMELL of the Ginger Tea. There was no way I would be able to drink it. At that point, I called my OB and he called in a prescription for Phenergan. I see him this Thursday at which point he wants to be sure I'm developing HG. The Phenergan is helping to take the edge off, which allows me to eat, but I'm still nauseous. I can live with this level of nausea though. :) Thank you again for all of your advice and support! It's so nice to know that I can turn to a group of moms who have been there if I need some advice. Thanks again! :)

Zofran - seriously, it works! I tried Phenergan with my first and it just made me sleep. (which wasn't good at work!) I took Zofran with my second and it was amazing! It doesn't make you tired at all.
I had to ask my doctor to prescribe it, they don't just offer it up, think it's more expensive.
It also worked for many of my friends!!
Good luck!!

I too had really bad "morning" sickness that was more like "all day" sickness with my son. I even banished my poor hubby from the room if he was eating anything. For about three months straight all I could tolerate was fruit smoothies. I would get the ones with extra vitamins, since I was not able to eat anything else or even keep my prenatal vitamins down.
I know that everyone is different but that was something that I was able to eat.
Also there are supposed to be hard candies (I think you can pick them up from some stores that sell pregnancy items and baby stuff.) I have also heard that the magnetic bracelets that are supposed to help with sea/motion sickness can help.
Good Luck,
B.

I don't know if this will help you but when I was pregnant with my daughter I felt sick all day long. I finally started taking my prenatal vitamins with dinner instead of breakfast and it went away. Maybe it was coincidence. When I got pregnant with my son I took the vitamins with dinner and never felt sick. Good luck!

Hi E.--
I was sick all the time with my first baby--up until (and during!) labor. When I had my second one, someone suggested these wristband/bracelets called Sea Band. People use these for motion sickness, but they worked wonderfully for me for my "pregnant sickness"--it didn't limit itself to only mornings! :-) They are pretty inexpensive--$8.00-$10.00. Do a Google search for Sea Band and there should be a bunch of info. Hope you feel better soon!

If you are not able to keep anything (or only very little) down, you need to see your doctor right away, with a food diary, to show how severe it is. You may have hyperemesis gravidarum, which can be very dangerous. Please visit www.hyperemesis.org. It can come even if you haven't had it in prior pregnancies.
Even if you don't have hyperemesis, you might be dehydrated, which can make your nausea worse. So please see your OB right away. If your OB doesn't take you seriously, please contact Dr. Bruce Banias at Genesis OB/GYN in Kettering. He was my OB during a very severe bout of hyperemesis recently.
Good luck.

You are going to get so many different answers for this so I hope something helps!!! I am 21 weeks pregnant with my third child and I have never had real severe sickness, but I have certainly had the constant nausea thing. I found that ginger ale worked for me as well as ginger biscuits (cookies). However, I also had/have a strange craving for smelling lemon. If I ever felt too ill, I would cut a lemon and sniff. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it helped me to eat!

I had "all day" sickness with all three of my children and actually was hospitalized and also utalized home-health care. You can try "grazing", eating small meals or snacks several times a day instead a full meal three times a day. It helps to not let you get an empty tummy which sometimes helps the sickness. In the end I always ended up on a med called Zofran it was a wonder drug. They will offer you phenergan because it a cheaper drug but it has more side-effects like sleepiness. The Zofran did not make me tired, and it comes in a melt-away form tab. Good luck!!

Hi E.!
Being sick is THE WORST! I was sick all the way up until around 12 weeks. I got the wrist bands, which did adsolutely nothing for me. My best friend, who's a pharmacist, told me to try cola syrup. It was the ONLY thing that worked. I lived in PA at the time, and got mine at Eckerd's. So I'm not sure if places even sell it any more. It tasted like flat pop, and I drank it over ice. It wasn't gross at all. It always settled my stomach enough to eat whatever didn't make me puke (which was pretty much only spaghettios!). I was then able to regain energy, go to work, etc.
I also kept water and crackers by my bedside and nibbled on those before I got up every single morning. It helped somewhat, but the cola syrup is what enabled me to live as normal as possible! I hope you find something that works for you!
Good luck!

Peppermint oil rubbed onto the bottom of your feet works wonders. My midwife told me about it and it is amazing stuff! If you would like my midwife's email address, you can respond and I will gladly get it to you. She is a wonderful person and is very educated about natural ways to counteract all kinds of things. Definitely try the peppermint oil (I buy it at my local health food store)....I'm sure it will work for you. Anyone I know that's tried it has been totally relieved from morning sickness.

You poor thing!
I know exactly what you are going through. I was sick with my daughter the WHOLE pregnancy. Everyone kept saying it would get better but it never did.
Check with your doctor first, but my doctor said it was safe to do vitamin B6 with 1/2 of a unisom pill so many times per day. I think 2 or 3 times a day.
In Missouri there was also a Pharmacy that makes Anti-Nausea Capsules. I also tried these. You do have to have your doctor call it in like a perscription.
Here is the information: "Bellevue Pharmacy Solutions"
____@____.com
They said:
We compound an "Anti-Nausea Capsule" that contains the following: Vitamin B-6, Vitamin B-12, Folic Acid, Calcium Carbonate, and Ginger Root. We have many morning sickness patients who have used it with success. You use one capsule 2-3 times daily as needed. It costs $30.00 for 30 capsules; $55.00 for 60 capsules; and $80.00 for 90 capsules.
We appreciate the opportunity to be your compounding pharmacy. We ship all across the country, and accept most insurance plans for reimbursement.

I also was put on Zofran that they give to cancer patients who are going through chemo. IT WORKED THE BEST:) I was finally able to put on some weight and not feel sick all the time and could finally eat. I would take one of the Zofrans when I was really really sick and try the others first to see how they would work. When you are sick for so long, you want something to work. (In Missouri when really sick I was working as a Para professional with two autistic children in the first grade and volunteered to ride the school bus with one of the boys before I knew I was going to be so sick. That was a treat to be on a bus feeling like you could barf at any second with screaming kids. I didn't get pd enough:) With Zofran I was able to ride the bus and not have to have the trash can next to me the whole time.
Talk to your doctor about these things. I tried all three and both of my kids are fine:)
With my son I was only sick for 3 months and then the sickness finally got better. Hopefully that will happen with you!
Good luck and hang in there.
PS) My birthday is July 4th, that would be a great day for your delivery:)

I actually was hospitalized with 4 of them in the first tri mester. My advice to you is just try everything....everyone is different and different things will help a bit for a while. The thing that helped me was to at least eat one saltine every hour....I know it sounds like it's not much but that little bit in my stomach helped and you really can't throw up one saltine...at least if you do it's not much. Don't drink with it....wait a while. Also, get your rest....I know it's hard with little ones but if ANY friends offer to help...take it. Good luck and God bless you....I know it's terrible!

I just delivered a baby 2 months ago.. and I had the same problem.. This may sound crazy but with my first and this one, I had stomach upset. Salt n vinegar chips helped settle my stomach, I swear it has something to do with the vinegar maybe.. but it worked.. also, with this preg nothing ever sounded good.. but I would try to eat a variety of things.. but bbq chicken, bake pot and broccoli never upset my stomach so I ate ALOT of it !! I would eat a bowl of cereal at night, to help with milk.. and I would drink choc milk. If you find something that you can eat, eat it everyday.. some food and keeping down, is better then no food. Also.. I used to eat with all 3 of my preg's cucumber, tomotoe, and onion salad.. I made with miracle whip and vinegar. I ate it all the time.. a good way to get veg's in your diet and it never made me sick. Good luck to you

TUMS, iced tea-non sweetened. Peppermint is a natural stomach calmer. Try gum & mints. I wish you the best. You WILL get through it. Try & rest as much as you can & eat small meals or snacks. I'm sorry you're feeling so yucky. I had all-day sickness with all three of my pregnancies. I lost 10lbs in my first tri-mester with my third. It's rough. Compounded by the fact that you have two other little ones to care for. Here's my best advice: eat before you even get out of bed. Keep those crackers next to your bed and eat them before you even lift your head off the pillow. Continue to eat throughout the entire day. Just a little something hear and there ... but all day long. Also, I wore the motion-sickness arm bands and those seemed to help as well. You can buy those at any pharmacy. Hope this helps. If that is the case with you ask for the suppositories or the gel version or you might just vomit up the pills(like i did). until then, try white rice cooked in chicken broth...it was one of the few things i could keep down. and something about the fizziness of coke helped to settle my tummie too.

Mashed potatos and peanut butter & jelly sandwiches -- I lived on 'em the first trimester, because I couldn't eat anything else.
It may help to change the time that you take your prenatal vitamin, or change the prenatal vitamin brand. My sister and I both found that one vitamin might result in a lot more nausea/heartburn than the rest...You might also ask your OB about taking extra niacin, which sometimes helps.
Sis's last had her nauseated for almost the entire pregnancy, but he's the sweetest, best-dispositioned baby I've ever seen. Maybe if they're going to be smooth sailing after they get here, they have to cause some problems beforehand?

I am so sorry to hear you are so sick. I was really sick this summer with my second (due Jan. 22) - I couldn't even make it to outings or parties because I would get so sick when I drove. The only time I didn't feel sick was when I was asleep. It lasted almost 16 weeks and one day just went away.
My advice to you is to get some hard ginger candies and suck on those when you feel like you need something to help subside the upset stomach. You can find them at Whole Foods. For me, nothing really worked to take away all the sickness. I would eat something small and full of carbs often just to try to keep the sickness at bay. Protein (like they tell you) made it worse for me. I found that I had certain times of the day when I would feel kind of okay and that is when I would force myself to eat something. Anything that sounded good. I ate Ramen noodles a couple of times - I hadn't had those since college. But, don't stock up on one particular food item because the next day you won't be able to eat it.
I don't mean to sound so glum, but I don't want to try to paint a rosey picture for you and you wonder why it works for everyone else and not you. That is kind of the way I felt! :) Good luck! Just think - it'll soon pass and you will barely remember it.

I know how you feel i had terrible morning sickness i actually lost weight with my pregnancy and was on home health care IV"S the whole time..... however i learned many tricks in the beggining that many people swear by....
1. there are motion sickness bands that you wear on your wrists and it has a little ball that pushes on the pressure points.
2. you can take 1/2 a unisom and 50 mg of vit b6 before bed.
3. there are things called preggy pops which are sour they work well how ever i found things like lemon drops to work better because they were more sour.
4. sip flat room temp ginger ale.... like an ounce every 30 mins...
5. they sell little cups of Hawaiian shaved ice at kroger in the freezer section which comes in lemon so you have the sour part and you are getting some fluids...
6. if nothing else works call your doctor try phenagren, this will make you sleepy tho....
7. if you cant afford to be sleepy ask for zofran there are 3 diff types pills you swallow (which i couldn't keep down) pills that desolve (which also made me sick) and as a very last resort a shot and this was the only way i could get any relief...
i hope this helped and good luck!!

Get some crystallized ginger and eat a litlle of it before a meal. It's a strong ginger flavor and might take a bit to get used to, but it is sweet. Of course if nothing that has been suggested works then DO go see your doctor. they can perscribe medication that will help reduce the symptoms and allow you to eat (which you NEED to do).
Another thing to try is a little bit of baking soda in water (about 1 tsp dissolved in about 1 cup of water). This doesn't taste too good, but the baking soda works very well to neutralize stomach acids if this is the source of you morning sickness (also great for heartburns).

One things that helped on my worst days was to make chicken and rice. I boiled some rice in chicken stock with some small bits of chicken (leftovers work well), carrots and celery. I make it so that it was like a thick soup. Not to runny not to solid. It seemed to give me the least amount if trouble. Also sipping ice cold water helped me. I do the ice water for heartburn too.

I am SOOO sorry you are feeling nauseated. Sounds like my pregnancy with my third son. From day one until he was born I was nauseated. Blech. What worked for me was the original peppermint Altoids. Two usually did the trick to ease my queasiness. Peppermint and ginger are both supposed to be great natural stomach aids. The preggie pops are supposed to be good, but can get expensive if you pop them like candy.
If you try of these home methods and you are still feeling pretty bad you need to tell your doctor. There are anti nausea meds that they can prescribe that might be helpful for you.
Hope you start feeling better soon!

E., I was lucky and did not have morning sickness nearly so bad with either of my children - my Aunt, however, was sick the whole time. She ate crackers and, believe it or not, sipped on flat Coca-Cola. She'd pour the soda into a cup, let it fizz out a little and just sip on it all day long - she swears by it. She says her morning sickness waned a great deal but never disappeared totally. Hopefully, it would at least get you back into the swing of things - sounds like you have your hands full and need to be up an around quite a bit. Talk with your Ob-GYN/midwife about herbal remedies and/or switching pre-natal vitamins or just taking them at night. You might try the lollipops - I think they're called "Preggy Pops" - I got them at a maternity store and they seemed to help me - of course, I ate anything that wasn't nailed down! I was beginning to think I was the only one that had "morning" sickness all day long. I had the same problem when I was pregnant with my daughter. My solution was to use the motion sickness bands. They sell them at CVS. No medicine what so ever in them. I didn't want to be put on a prescription because of the side effects and my doctor said to try a more "healthy" approach. They are like wrist bands that have a plastic button that is placed on your wrist on your palm side. I thought they worked wonders. Didn't completely cut out the "morning" sickness but helped tremendously. You may want to talk to your doctor also and make sure he/she thinks this is an alright choice for you. Hello,
I had morning sickness all day with both of my pregnancies and it is really really aweful. With my daughter it only lasted during my 1st trimester but with my son I had it almost the whole time. I remember thinking the same thing - that it must be some kind of cruel joke because when you're pregnant you should be eating well and getting more calories but then the pregnancy makes you sick so you can't eat anything - it doesn't make sense. See if your doctor can prescribe vitamin B6 for you - you can take it in additional to your prenatal vitamins and for some women it relieves nausea. That worked pretty well for me. Also, I got "preggie pops" which are ginger flavored hard candy that you can suck on. There are other flavors too. They sell them at maternity stores like Motherhood and those seemed to help a little too. I also had warm ginger tea and sometimes I could get that down okay - just buy a ginger root, peel it, and boil it in water and drink. A friend of mine actually had to be hospitalized for dehydration a couple times during her pregnancies because she couldn't hold anything down - if you feel like it is getting to that point make sure you let your doctor know because they can prescribe something to help with the nausea. Hopefully yours will pass soon. Hang in there!
