I had success with something called preggie pops. They are lollipops or they have nard candies, and theysettled me stomach a bit. I also found that if I grazed frequently (dry cereal or crackers) I felt better. Good luck!
Hello, I'm about 5-6 weeks pregnant with my third child and this is the first pregnancy where I've had morning sickness. Well, I feel bad calling it morning sickness as I always think of morning sickness as vomiting, which I have not. I've just had a very upset stomach and I've felt a little naueseated. How did you all deal with morning sickness and going to work and raising kids (my oldest is 2 and my baby is almost 6 months old)?
Thanks for everyone's great advice! I've noticed that once I eat something I feel better so I guess eating often is key. I will also try the ginger and peppermint teas. Thanks again, ladies for your help!

I used to keep soda crackers and water next to my bed so I could nipple one before I got up, that way I could reduce some of my nausea before I stood up making it worse. I also kept crackers with me at work so when the nausea would hit I could nipple on the crackers and that would usually help at least some.
Best of luck and blessed be.
Avoid cold drinks(above room temp.)
Eat bland crackers.
Suck on Altoids or any kind of mint.
I wish you the best!
I actually had it the same - my friends said don't complain becuase it was nothing but I felt very differently about it. I went to a nutrionalist and she told me, of all things, to go get some lemonade and some plain potatoe chips before I even get out of bed and wait five minutes or so. I was in the Army at the time and had tried teas, crackers, ginger ale, peppermint to no avail. So I did it, and it has saved through three pregnancies. You will want to have easy snacks within reach at all times - in your desk or purse or where ever. The moment you start to feel nauseous eat something - you will probably feel like you are eating all the time, but it will stave off the sickness. I know everything in you will be screaming eating isn't the answer but make yourself anyhow. Best of luck and I promise it will end.
Peppermint helped me. Also, bananas in the morning and crackers of course. When you get up in the morning you need to get something in your stomach...I forget why exactly. I think that it has something to do with us producing more acid and the hormones and that's why we have an upset stomach all day. I didn't really throw up with my son, but I remember sucking on those peppermint candies a lot during the day. Good luck.
Stash makes a great ginger tea. I lived on that.
Also, I had a bag full of almonds with me at all times. I ate them between meals, before I felt ill. Once I felt sick, it was too late. You just cannot let yourself get hungry.
Hi, My husband does not believe in any new age stuff at all but both he and his sister (a surgeon) told me that I should get this magnetic band that presses a pressure point. Unfortunately, they found this magnet about a week before my morning sickness ended, so I never tried it.
There is a list of things to avoid and help take care of morning sickness on the site. http://www.seaproductsonline.com/index64-5.html
I lived on saltine crackers and peppermint tea... I was one of those people that was sick my entire pregnancy, throwing up daily, but after about the 15th week, it got better. I couldn't find anything that helped and I didn't like the list of side-effects from the perscriptions my doctor recommended so I just suffered through. I know it's not fun, but whatever you do, don't start letting yourself throw-up because it doesn't make you feel better and it trains your body to start doing it. I found out the hard way, and I ended up throwing up without control at work and other places. FInd something that you don't find revolting and see if it helps with the nausea... proteins work best at keeping your bloodsugar stable and that makes a big difference. B vitamins did help some.
P.,
Keep a small snack on your nightstand, like crackers, and munch on those first thing in the morning before you get up. When I was pregnant with my first I was incredibly nauseous because of the prenatal pills. I finally switched to taking a Flintstone chewable ever morning/day.
Congrats!

Just read Tanja's post. One reason heartburn is such a problem while pregnant for many women is due to hormones. I forget all the medical terms, but the hormones that are raging while we are pregnant affect the valve at the top of the stomach. It causes that valve to relax and that allows what normally stays in our stomachs to get out, the wrong way. Thus causing heartburn, and I would guess some of the nausea/vomiting too.
Peppermint tea and crackers!
I think as funny as it sounds food is best saltine crackers and for me branch lemon drops and the really gross country time lemonade mix which my husband was so happy to throw away after - OK so not the best for nutrients but who cares!
Hi - Small amounts of salty, bready things worked pretty well with me (crackers, pretzels, rosemary/sea salt bread (Essential Baking Co.), etc.). This of course leads to thirst, but only take a few small sips of liquid over a longer period of time. Deep breaths help and also lay off the coffee (if you're a fan and haven't done so already). Good luck!
I wore the sea sickness bands, found at any pharmacy. Not sure if it was psychological but it helped me! Good luck :)

There was a vitamin (Super Supplements had it, I think) called Ginger B6. It helped me a LOT.
I had excruciating nausea with my daughter (who is my first so I have no advice on balancinng life), and my doctor told me to take B6 vitamin and Unisom at night. Together they make a cure for nausea. Also check the amount of iron in your prenatal vitamins. A lot of iron can cause nausea. I switched from prenatal vitamins to Flinstones chewables (which have many of the same nutrients), and went from being sick all day to being sick once a day. It was a big improvement.
Hi P.,
I was sick will all three of my pregnancies (sicker with each one). These are things that worked for my first pregnancy: graham crackers and preggie pops (suckers). For my second - gum was my lifesavor! As long as I kept chewing it, it really helped the naseau. With my third, I could wake up in the middle of the night and feel sick. My doctor perscribed me Reglin and it helped so much. I am not one for taking medications while pregnant and really didn't want too but I was desperate (I had a 3 and 1 year old to take care of). I could not believe the difference! That night I went to dinner and a movie with my husband which that morning there was no way. I only took it for a couple of weeks and no more then twice a day (you can do more). Just know that it does get better!! And congratulations!!!
Saltine crackers worked great, also sips of ginger ale.
MY mom said the crackers thing too ... she said it helped get blood sugar going again (growing babies suck it out of you!).
I also started keeping granola bars in the car, so if I hit a sugar low out running errands I could actually, you know, be safe to drive home ... now that the kids are OUT of my tummy, I still carry granola bars, so if _they_ hit a sugar low while we are out running errands, I can drive home safely ;)!!
I also agree with that 7up suggestion. I used gingerale, too. I couldn't do either of them in the morning, but they were KEY for me if I hit a severe sugar low out driving.
(I've now cut pop from my otherwise organic diet; I guess if I were pregnant again I'd have to buy the expensive organic pop ;). )
Lots of prenatals cause nausea; the iron in most of them isn't very bio-available, and that's often the trigger. If that is part of your problem and you still wanted to supplement iron, there are some bio-available supplements. Nature's Way iron capsules saved me and a friend of mine from prenatal-pill nausea.
I had the same thing with my pregnancy. I found that I could stay off the nausea by eating small snacks about every two hours, especially protein. I loved almonds and cashews the first few months (and don't really like nuts)! Give it a try.
Try eating something light and bland before getting out of bed in the morning. My husband used to get up and bring me Rice Crispies in bed. It helped quite a bit! I also sipped hot, decaf tea to help calm my stomach and NEVER LET YOURSELF GET HUNGRY! Once I was hungry my stomach was just really upset and I was so nauseated. Eat small amounts every 2 hours or so. Congrats!
ask your doctor about the b complex vitamin. I have adopted all my children but all my friends took this and all their morning sickness went completely away.
I found two great things that helped me. First, instead of munching on crackers (which you digest quickly) or sucking on hard candy (which does not fill your stomach), much on peanuts. I ate honey-roasted and got the sugar too. The peanuts are easy to eat and because they are so high in protein, they keep you fuller longer. Just a handful of peanuts is enough to take you out of the nausea, but you can eat as much as you'd like. Also, loading up on vitamin B helps for some reason. My doctor had a "morning sickness pill" that he prescribed for patients, and it was just vitamin B with some other stuff. As your doctor of pharmacist the best way to get extra. The amount in your prenatal vitamin is not enough!
Saltine crackers by the bedside worked wonders for me. I would eat one every morning before even attempting to get out of bed. Hope this passes quickly for you. Feeling nauseous is the worst.
I had terrible morning sickness with both my pregnancies. However, for the second one I used accupressure wrist bands -- the kind that are used for motion sickness. And I felt a gazillion times better. I could look after my two year old and actually go places with my family, unlike in my 1st pregnancy. They are available at almost any drug store, I know for sure that Rite Aid has them. Good luck
Small amounts of protein through out the day will help stabilize your blood sugars and help keep the sickness at bay. Try things like yogurt, cheese, soy beans, milk. You don't have to eat much - just a couple of bites of such things every 1-2 hours.
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!
With my first baby (a girl) I had a very easy pregancy, too. But, with this little guy, I had stomach upset in the first trimester and it has returned a bit in these last few weeks.
Quite by mistake, I found that if I had a good protein breakfast and kept eating every 2hrs or so, the stomach upset wasn't there. I still have to watch what I eat - too much fruit or carbs will set my stomach off.
Congrats, again, and best wishes to you and your family!!!!!!!!!

I was always nauseated too..i ended up chewing mint gum and brushing my teeth alot. that would make the awful taste in my mouth better. also find some candles that smell good and burn them. i had to rotate thru a few because some would smell good then the next day would make me gag! Peppermint and Ginger are supposed to be good for nausea. good luck you are half way thru the yukky part!
try peppermint candy luckily it is holiday season so if you like candy canes break them up into pieces to keep by bedside, kitchen, bathroom etc for you to suck on. It helps alot with my acid reflux so i believe it will help with morning sickness also.
Crystallized ginger worked for me. Or real ginger ale mixed with unfiltered apple juice. The key is real ginger - Canada Dry-type sodas don't have enough ginger to matter.
It also works for motion sickness!
Ginger really works. I never experienced morning sickness, but it was a big help with nausea from air/motion sickness for me. It can be found in capsule-form at healthfood markets, as crystalized ginger (but may have an unpleasant texture), or (my favorite) as a chewy, oriental candy called "Ting Ting Jahe" available at Umajamai or other Asian markets locally. Ginger teas and ale may also work.
Hang in there.
I remembered eating lots of sour food. Like, dried plum, sour candies, and stuff like that. Try that and see if it helps! Good luck!
I have used ginger candies, gum, and peppermint tea. Also when things got really bad I used vitamin B6. All of them helped to settle my stomach just enough to help me get through work. Depending on how bad it gets you can also see a doctor about a prescription for anti-nausea medicine.
Also try listening to your body. The crackers never seemed to work for me. Everytime I felt sick though, I would crave a 7up. Sure enough when I finally caved and took a few sips it made my nausea disappear. So if you think or feel something else might work give it a try.
go to an asian market. they have these ginger candies. you put the candie which is soft up on your gum and just suck it which to finish takes an hour...the ginger will settle you tummy. i was working at nordstroms when prego with my third and had the worst tummy...no vomit...just always wanting to. this and ginger tea helped me. also i found getting enough sleep warded off the ek a bit longer in the morning. this maybe hard for you with such a little one still. mine were two and nine months when i got prego with the third...good luck hang in there you will get through the first few weeks.
I agree with most of the posts. Saltine crackers, ROOM TEMPERATURE Ginger Ale, Ginger Tea, Peppermint tea. I think the one that did the best was warm Peppermint tea with the saltine crackers, or a piece of dry toast (no butter). I had it the whole time with my first child (didn't know this remedy then), then never had it at all with the next four children, by following the crackers or dry toast with peppermint tea, or ginger tea (just warm, not hot).
I used Rainbow Light complete prenatal system for my prenatals. They are food based, so you take 6 a day..but they contain GINGER!! They stopped the morning sickness (actually 3:30 pm sharp, everyday sickness) the day after I started them. Yes, I still take them..3 in the am 3 in the pm. They are made from food sources, so your body really uses what is in them (as compared to chemically compounded vitamins) Vitacost online has a good price on them. My health food store makes their own label, same contents..good luck
