MOPs-Any Experiences?

I am interested in finding a strong MOPS group that welcomes new members in the Allen/McKinney/Frisco area. Any leads regarding specific groups would be greatly appreciated. My first attempt at joining the chapter closest to our home wasn't a "good fit" as moms were assigned to tables with their friends. Being a fairly new stay at home mom, I had no one to request as a table mate, and was kind of the odd man out at a table of moms who all have four and five year old boys and had been in MOPS together for the past few years.

Let's just say the women I met were not real receptive to making a "new friend" with a little girl who is 22 month old...

What can I do next?

I go to First Baptist Church in Allen, and our church has a strong MOPs program. I am in Sunday school with several moms who attend MOPs, and I know they would be receptive to you. You might give them a try.

If you don't have a church home this is a great church. They have lots of activities for the kids, and the preschool program is very strong. My husband and I attend the Married with kids Sunday school (Gipson/Mann class), and have made many friends in this class. Most of us have kids in age range of 0-5. Good luck and I hope this information was helpful.

Well, my group isn't a MOP's group, but we certainly aren't an exclusive club! We welcome new members all the time. We have regular playdates, mom's nights out, couples nights, parties, and scrapbooking nights. We are affiliated with Stroller Strides but you don't have to be a member to join and you don't have to pay to join. Here is a link to our meetup. http://www.meetup.com/mckinneystrollerstrides/
I promise you will love it!

Hi there! I'm in a MOPS group in McKinney at Trinity Presbyterian Church on Virginia Pkwy. We used to have two groups, but decided to bring everyone together again - I think that'll give us about 70 people, but I could be wrong. We will be starting our Spring semester on Monday. I'm not a leader in the group, but you're welcome to come as my guest and check it out. I'll be sure to give you my number at the end.
As far as being the odd man out, I understand. I just went to a play date where my two girls were the only girls. I have a four year old and a 21 month old, and I would LOVE a new friend. I think it's easy to become isolated when you're a stay-at-home mom because there is never a time when you're not busy.
So, this month, our MOPS group will be meeting on the 5th and the 19th at 9am. My number is ###-###-####, and my name is C. Kitzmiller. I live in McKinney. Just give me a call.

Hi!!
Just wanted to let you know about MOMS Connection at my church - Chase Oaks Church in Plano (Legacy/75). It's like MOPS except it's not officially part of MOPS.
http://www.chaseoaks.org/get-connected/adults/women/moms-...

The leaders encourage regulars to sit at different tables each year so that everyone meets new people. And most people do this, I've noticed, because it's fun to meet new people every year! And you get more info/advice this way! I've been part of this group for 5 yrs and I love it!! There's a potluck breakfast, speaker, and discussion time! And childcare for your little ones.

You can give it a try one or 2 times to see if you like it before you sign up... but you have to call first to tell them you're coming so they know to expect you and your kiddos.
Let me know if you have any questions!

BTW, lots of moms come to our church/MOMS Connection from Allen, McKinney and Frisco ... so don't think that we are all just Plano moms. Most of my church friends are from Allen and McKinney actually. So you'll definitely meet other moms in your area.

M. L,

I am so sorry about your experience with your MOPS group. I loved MOPS when I attended, I do not know what I would have done without that connection with other moms. I am a non-traditional mom...older than most with my first and only. The Heights Baptist Church located at Renner Road and 75 Central has an awesome morning MOPS. I think most of the moms there are stay-at-home moms. The Mentor Moms are just so terrific, and the Moppets program is great, too. As far as buddies being paired together, I am afraid you will see that at many mom functions. It was like that for me my first year. But, I am so glad I stuck it out and returned the following year. I met some of my best friends for life there. Also, you are given the opportunity to voice your opinion about MOPS at the end of the year. The director-sponsor is the one who reads the surveys and makes suggestions and recommendations accordingly. (If they don't, you can voice your complaint to National MOPs and they will provide this group with feedback since their attitudes are not what MOPS is suppose to be about). If you do find a MOPS group that you like, and, if you are ever asked to serve on a MOPS board, and you have the opportunity to do so, then I highly recommend it. This will give you the chance to make a difference for other moms like yourself. It can be a little intimidating in the beginning, but very rewarding. I wish you the best...please don't give up on MOPS!

There is a group of moms and kids called daisies and dragonflies (meetup.com) that is very active and very receptive to new members. I am a new member myself and I am really enjoying it.
