I have 3 girls. when my oldest was little she was afraid of "monsters" . After about the 20th time of scaring the montsters away one night i spryaed her closet with "monster spray" which was actually glade airfreshner. It worked. Now my 2 1/2 year old is doing the same thing, the other night my 6 year old ran and got the glade, and said mom i'll take care of it. when she came back in kitchen she said mom i know this is really airfreshner now. but she still plays along and it really helps our 2 1/2 year old. When were in target the other day my 2/1/2 year old let out a big yell in the cleaners department, she said mommy look they have lots of monster spray here!! just thought i'd share incase anyone else had a "monster" problem

K.,
I just wanted to share that I was having dinner with my aunt and 3 cousins last night, and my aunt was telling an embarrasing story about one of her twins (now 12), and how she just recently was able to stop using "monster spray." It was very funny to me that the very first post I saw on this website was about monster spray. You are not the only mother who's had to do that, and I'm sure you won't be the last!!
K.,
great idea, but water in a spray bottle works just as well and is much, much safer for your girls and yourself.- You can add a fresh squeeze of lemon for a smell- let the girls make it with you- they can make their own magic monster potion.
Becareful of these airfreshners- they are highly toxic- along with plug-ins and many scented candles.

That is a cute idea! Thanks for sharing incase my twins get scared of "monsters" again. I told them that the only monsters there are, are in thier head. So if they don't think of them, there won't be any. Because they come from their imagination. Also I let them watch Monster's Inc and said "Look! It you touch them they die!" But when one tells me they have a monster in their head, I say ok, then lets talk and think about what we want to do tomorrow! My twins will be 5 next month.
I've heard of a lot of people choosing this line of defense against monsters. First, I will say I am not here to pass any judgements. Second, I will tell you that as an Early Childhood Coach, your best line of defense is to inform inform them that monsters are NOT real. By spraying them away, you are acknowledging that they do exist...what will your children do when they can get to the spray at grandma's, in a hotel, or later on at a friend's sleepover? It is worth a few rough nights of checking every corner, leaving on lights, and welcoming young ones to your bed as opposed to instilling a lifetime of unreasonable fears.
