Moms with Boys Who Love All Things Cars

I have a 4.5 year old who obsessed with cars, including the CARS movies. I feel like we own everything already and am stuck on what to get him for Xmas. Are there any cool things he can use his existing cars (matchbox, CARS, hot wheels) with like a race track? He has Wall Tracks already and I'm not looking to hang any more up on the walls LOL. I really like the Plan City idea but do they make one that is less expensive and can be used with regular cars as opposed to train tracks? Thanks Mamas!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Jaime M - At Toys R Us they had a bunch of remote controlled monster trucks labeled for Levels 1-3 for beginners and up and not too expensive. My son also loves monster trucks!

Thanks for the ideas - I forgot about Playmobile and GeoTrax. Maybe I'll look at the Plan City stuff too. Or just give him a roll of masking tape and let him make his own roads on the floors LOL. I agree about the Hot Wheels tracks - he plays with them for a day and then they stay in the toy bins unless I encourage him to bring them out!

My 3 year old loves her Geotrax. It can get expensive, but I got it around Christmas, not even black friday, and got it for 1/2 price at Kohls. It happened to be the Cars 2 one. It comes with the track and the one I got had a remote control Lightening McQueen. Like I said the parts are expensive, but are usually on sale around Christmas. They make all kinds of Geotrax so it doesn't have to be Cars, that is just what we got for my daughter.

We got this race track type thing for my son last xmas. The top sticks to the wall and you create whatever else you want to happen. It's flexible, rolls up for storage, allows two cars to race at once. But we have never managed to get it to make a loop that works.

How about a remote controlled car? He's a good age for that and I think he would really like it. It's also a good age to start playmobil and legos, so maybe get him cars that are part of those types of sets (my son loves his playmobil ambulance and his lego police set).

We have a neat Hot Wheels garage that my son likes a lot. http://www.amazon.com/Mattel-Wheels-Blitz-Garage-MTTV3260...

Do they still make slot cars? My older son was always content with more matchbox cars but he really liked slot cars. I am not sure what brand names they would go under now but they have a grove in the middle that hold the car on the track and then they have electric controllers that make them go.

Remote controll cars ladies. They make them for toddlers and older boys and my godson loved them when I introduced them to him at about the age of 4. Nothing fancy, they range from 10.99 in the dollar stores, to 50.00 in Toys are us. They also make little ones for little hands. Every time I give them to little ones, they are a huge hit.

I think 4.5 is a little young for slot cars.... we are getting them for my son this year and he's 7.5 (and his brother is 6) and I think that is more age appropriate.

We've been in car mode for well... 7 years :)

We have the Plan City wooden roads - they hook with our wooden (Melissa and Doug) train track and my Mom also bought the boys the parking garage for Christmas a few years back. They love it. The roads were a big hit - and still get used daily (now they use them with lego's too).

We have a number of Hot Wheels tracks, but honestly, my boys don't use them much - maybe other kids would be into them, but I wouldn't recommend them, especially if you already have the wall tracks.

We got a play mat for x-mas two years ago that was a vinyl map of our neighborhood that was pretty popular for a while... my SIL bought it and I suspect this is where she got it - very reasonably priced...

Here is the Plan City Road set we have...

Good luck!
