My Target has a large one that has sound buttons and a rescue hook thing that you can lower and raise. It is not on their website.
My 6 year old wants a helicopter for Christmas. Not a remote control one and not one he has to build. He wants one that he can simply play with. Any ideas on where to get that? Everyone I see is one or the other...

I know that the Hess gas stations sold awesome Hess helicopters many years ago at Xmas time. They put out a battery powered vehicle every year (at least I think they still do)... they don't fly.. but the lights light up and they usually have sound options. My son has a ton of these from over the years. Semi-trucks, race cars, firetrucks, bi-planes, ambulances, and yes, even the big helicopter (the kind with storage for a small motorcycle that loads up the ramp in the back of it), also a smaller helicopter that lands on the back of a semi-tractor trailer. I am attaching a link to ebay just to show you what I am talking about... not sure where else you can find them, and not sure what "this year's" vehicle is, or even if they still do it. Hubby used to buy them at the gas station. :)

Tonka makes a great one, they have them at walmart for about $15. (at least at our walmart, might be more in your area) several buttons that make helicopter noises, etc. my 5 year old loved it last year for christmas. you can't miss them, there is a fire truck, police car, etc. very cool-
this is the same one, only more expensive, at amazon.com

Playmobil makes helicopters - they are well built and the pilot is removable. We have the fire rescue one.
I got my son the whale rescue that has a helicopter and there is another set of "rescue" with helicopter too.

Tonka also has helicopters, you just need to google tonka helicopter and you will get options.
Good Luck!
I got my daughter one from Toy's r Us called rescue patrol. It doesn't do anything special.
Imaginext makes a large rescue helicopter that cones with a gurney and two paramedics. Target has an exclusive Imaginext police set with helicopter and police car. Tonka makes a large helicopter as well (I think we saw it at Costco). A few military helicopters are out there but we find "army men" toys arent as well made as other brands (doors dont stay shut or the men dont really fit into inside). Playmobil has a police, rescue and fire helicopters. Playmobils are smaller than the other brands I mentioned and might be better for 6 yr old.
check out playmobil -
If your son likes Spiderman there are two he may like. Just go to Amazon.com and type in Spiderman helicopter and it comes up with two sets that I was looking at for my son. Or, if you don't want Spiderman, just type in toy helicopters. Good luck and hope you find the perfect one!
My husband and I saw some very cool ones at Costco a couple of weeks ago. Maybe try there! they were big enough that a kid can hold onto them and do some serious imagination play and NOT remote control or lego.
Good luck!

At Dollar General they have big sets of army stuff. It has a helicopter, tank, and other assorted stuff for under 20. I saw a similar set at CVS pharmacy for 19.99.
