Mommy/Toddler Classes or Activities

I'm looking for activities I can do with my daughter. Every day, we just go the usual mall, parks and playground and I want her to do more activities cos she seems bored already from walking and I want to encourage potential talent/skills. Maybe an art class or ballet class? She's almost 17mos, I don't really know what kind of classes she can do already. Or maybe mother and kid activities too! :] 3pm-7pm is a big room of adventures for me and my daughter, I just wish I know what we can do. Hopefully, something inexpensive and not too far cos we take the bus on regular :P
Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi C.-

In San Diego our Community Education Colleges offer FREE Mommy & Me classes. They have 0-12 month, 1 years -2years, & a 3years-5 years. They have both indoor classes, at the same location, and outdoor classes, which take places in different parks around town. Hopefully Glendale offers something similar.

Good luck & have fun!

There is a great new place in Burbank (right by Costco) you have to check out! I've been there for a couple of special events and it is really cool. They offer some very fun, creative, imaginative classes and I think you'll really like it. I think you can do a free trial class. Have fun!

I know Monarchs (gymnastics center in Agoura and Newbury Park) has a parent-participation class starting at 18 months that looks like a lot of fun. My daughter does a 3 yo class there and the 18 month classes are only two or three kids with parents and a teacher. I know you can also start at California Cartwheel with classes as young as 18 months.

Have you checked out meetup.com? There are lots of mom's groups in SoCal that organize through meetup.com - I believe there may be several in the Glendale area. Where I live (west SFV), some groups have weekly (even daily) activities that are free/low cost and local.
Also, check out the LA library website (lapl.org) - lots of branches have story time, arts and crafts, etc.
Finally, rather than an art class, perhaps simply make art together (cheaper, for sure!) or with a few friends. Simply making construction paper mosiacs, finger painting, or using play doh can make for a great afternoon!

You didn't mention where you live but if you live right around Pasadena you can register for free mommy and me classes through Pasadena City College. They are given every day M-F 9am to 11:50am in various locations around town. Also check out your city's parks and recreation department programs. They usually have all sorts of classes for a reasonable fee.

Hello, You might check with your local community center. They usually have some classes which are reasonably priced. Also, is there a Y.M.C.A. close by. You can join and then you get discounts for classes.
Good luck with your precious little girl.

If you're looking at Meetup.com, you might want to consider Storytime Adventures Meetup, which is a new group sponsored by Kuki's Playshop. They post activities and outings that feature interactive storytelling and puppetry for early childhood.

Here's a link to their site:
