hey ladies! it's far past time i did something for MYSELF (okay, and maybe a little for my boyfriend)... SO i'm thinking about doing something new to my 'do. i'm really into the whole pinup girl hair styles, and he's really into the whole rockabilly scene... the problem is, i've NEVER styled my hair (unless you count my recently cut long side swept bangs a style) and my mother is one of those women who goes out to get her hair done on a weekly basis, so she's of no help... does anyone know how to make this happen? does anyone even know what im talking about? i've googled it and come up with tons of images, but no how-to help. please let me know! THANKS! ~R.
THANKS LADIES for all your responses! i ended up finding this AMAZING, super talented girl on myspace who owns her own makeup shop... and she does hair too!! she made a home visit and taught me how to do my hair AND makeup... who cant love that?! now, with practice, i can do it myself whenever i want... i cant tell you how many heads i turned the first time i went out with my hair like that! AND my guy loves it too, YAY!!

Hi R.
I use to be a hairstylist and being a single mom then, I too had to do something with my hair, and be a role model for my clients. Here are a few tricks that I hope will help.
-Depending on how long and thick your hair is, brush it into a pinytail at the base of your neck but don't tie it. Start twisting your hair and slowly start bringing it upwards so that it will tighten close to your head. Once it is really tight, take the ends of your hair and tuck it in between the roll that it will create and your scalp. secure it with bobbypins or hairpins. It sounds complicated but try it several times and it will take you no more than 5 minutes once youget the hang of it.
-You can do this one with your hair wet. Seperate your hair into two pony tails- top half and bottom half. Take the top half and put it aside for the moment. Take the bottom half and twist it onto itself until it becomes a bun or a roll. Make sure to use gel of mousse so that all the little hairs stay in place. Tuck in the end between the roll and the scalp using bobbypins or hairpins. Take the top half and do the same thing. Try to make it close to the bottom twist/bun so that they can connect. If your hair is really long, divide to top sections into two/ three or four sections and twist them wich ever way they want to go. Don't try to direct it but let the hair do it's thing. Again make sure to use mousse or foam to keep the hair together. Pin it up the same way as the first bun.
I've also used hot rollers in the morning. I would put them in first thing in the morning ( I would take my shower and wash my hair at night) and let them in while I ate, dressed, put my makeup and got ready to leave. Just before going out the door, I would take them out and put my hands thought them to "comb" them. I used a aerosol hair spray to keep the curl during the day.
I hope this will have been useful. Let us know how it goes. If you need more ideas, just let me know. Good luck.

I just use the topsy tail sold at local stores
I own a salon in Norfolk. Don't know where you're at but we can help you. This style is generally set on hot rollers or with a curling iron in roller fashion and then combed out into soft, sexy waves. You can then pull some of it up or just let the waves flow. This has also become a very popular style for weddings this season. Good luck and if you need any other help or tips you can call us at ###-###-####.
Hi R. ~
Google "pinup hair how to" and you should get some results. There are a few clips on You Tube, as well as written instructions. I would suggest you go to a stylist and tell them what you want and that you want to be able to do it yourself. Have them let YOU do it, as they show you how. They'll be there to help you if you have any problems or questions. It helps if you have someone who knows what they're doing with you while you're learning. They'll charge for their services, but look at it as paying for a professional class. Call or ask around to find someone who really knows what they're doing. Another suggestion would be to find a beauty school near you and offer yourself as a live model for the students to practice on. That wouldn't cost you anything and you'll be learning alongside the students! One thing I do know is that when you do an up-do, your hair shouldn't be squeeky clean - too slippery of hair makes it hard to work with. Either don't wash your hair for a day, or use some product in it to give it a more tacky feel. Depending on the length of your hair, you might need to purchase extra hair pieces to add volume, or be prepared to have alot of teasing done (hard on the hair on a daily basis). Good luck!

I know someone in Aberdeen (her hubby is a Marine) who has her own photography business, Cherry Blossoms Photography. Her studio is in her basement.
Her forte is pin-up pics. She's awesome. Check out her page on myspace if you're on there.
If not, I can give you her info just email me. ____@____.com
