Hello to all, I was hoping that someone out there could give me a good references. My husband is now a recovering alcoholic. He is seeking treatment and counseling. On the other hand. I know that it is a family disease and me and my 3 children will also need some form of counseling or group network to be apart of the whole "healing process." It is a giant step in my husbands' life, but it will take many baby steps to see the continued improvement and results in the lives for our family. Can anyone guide me or suggest a local AA, Alon-on group with in the Gurnee or surrounding areas? Anything that would be helpful in this process would be wonderful. Also, any mom who is struggling with the same issue and would like to give advice would be greatly appreciated.
God Bless! Lisa

We have a program in our church that is called Celebrate Recovery. It is a 12 step program and it has been very helpful to many people and their families. It is Friday nights and they provide dinner and small group settings. The church I go to is the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake. The phone is ###-###-####. If you call the office they will put you in touch with who you should talk to. I'm not sure where you live, but if this is not close to you, maybe they could suggest another place. I will be pray for you and your family. You are doing the right thing in seeking help.

Hi,
First of all I just want to say that you are very strong and I am going to keep you and your family in my prayers. I am a peds nurse and there are a couple of places that focus on family healing- one place is called Family Circle, Counselling Connections, and Family Stress Clinic and these are all in the northern lake county area. Good luck and God Bless.
Love,
J.
Lisa,
That's great that you husband is seeking help with his disease! You're right when you feel that you also need to find a group for yourself. Go to www.niafg.org to search for meetings in your area. I looked for you and I do see one at the Gurnee Community Church. Also search Al-Anon on line so you can read what it is all about. NIAFG will also provide a lot of info.
Keep in mind that these meetings are for YOU, not for your husband. They will help YOU understand the disease and also help you to cope with all that is realted to loving someone with alcoholism. Recovery is not easy, as wonderfull as it is, it's alot of work, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
I know this from 1st hand experience. My dad was an alcoholic and had 25 years sobriety when he passed away and my first husbnd was a recovering alcoholic. The Alateen and Alanon program saved my life and my sanity.
Good luck to you and your husband!
Good morning! I am not reallysure that I have any advice per say for you but as a wife and mother who has been dealing with the same situation with my husband for 12 years, I just wanted to say that I will keep you in my prayers. There is an AA and ala-non group that meets in Waukegan, my husband has been to it and does enjoy going. For me - I would have to say that involvement in my church is a huge source of sanity. The Lord is good and as long as you continue to seek Him and love Him, he will direct you and keep you. If you are not involved in a local church that would be a great place to start. My husband just returned this weekend from a Christian based rehab in Mississippi, we have three children ages, 14, 12 and 8. I would love to keep in touch with you. L. H.
