My son is 2 1/2 and I am just starting my research on pre-schools in the Long Beach area. I would love any suggestions on good preschools or sites to research them on.
Thanks!

Petite Montessori Preschool in Lakewood/Long Beach is phenomenal. My daughter will be 5 in two weeks. She has been attending this Preschool since she was 2 1/2. She still loves it. She is reading already and has been building her math skills. The program also includes art, music and yoga. It is a home based school, so it is an easy transition for your child. A couple of my daughter's classmates tried traditional preschools first and their children were overwhelmed with the number of kids and the chaos.

This is a great nurturing environment for your child to grow in and thrive in. Each kid learns at their own pace and there is plenty of play time too. It is like having a private tudor with a low teacher to student ratio. The teacher Ms. Deanna offers both full time and part time programs. I highly recommend it. You may even be able to get him started part time now to ease him into fulltime!

The school is located at:
Petite Montessori
4621 Blackthorne
Lakewood, CA
Her website is www.petitemontessori.com

She is right off of Lakewood Blvd, not far from the Lakewood Mall.

Please feel free to email me directly if you have an specific questions.

You're doing it right to research schools now. Registrations are starting and the good schools fill up fast!

Personally, I love Christ Lutheran Preschool! My son graduated from there and my daughter is still enrolled. CLP is on Stearns between Palo Verde and Studebaker in Long Beach. They have some of the most loving and caring teachers I have seen. Their curriculum and philosophies are designed to stimulate emotional, intelletual, social, and spiritual growth. They are very well rounded and the campus feels like a family.

The school also has half-day and full-day programs for 2-5 year olds (plus they have an infant program) and you have the ability to pick the days you want your child to attend school. You're not married to MWF or TTH. All of their teachers have bachelor degrees in child development or a related field (or they're working toward it). It is a wonderful school! I encourage you to check it out!

My son is 4 1/2, and started that school when he was 3. My son really enjoys the school and has learned so much. I have been very happy with that school, and enjoy the teachers very much. The school is not as new as some of the others, but just as good!! They are located in Belmont Shore, across from "The Belmont Pool". 30 S. Termino, ###-###-####.

Check out the Alpert Jewish Community Center. It is one of the top pre-schools in LB. You do NOT have to be Jewish to attend. They have fabulous programs for all aged kids, a great gym, pool and mommy and me class. As well as after school classes for older kids.

Hi J.,
My daughter is 2 1/2 and has been going to Long Beach City College-Child Development Center. She just loves it! The prices are reasonable too. We pay $60 for two days a week up to 10 hours a day. The teachers are really great and I am surprised at some of the cool things they get to do at such a young age. The other day they got to use a big old fashioned juicer to make their own orange juice. The kids are encouraged to do a lot of tasks for themselves, like pour their own milk at lunch. (They put just enough milk in a kids sized pitcher for them to use so that if they spill, it's easy for them to clean.) They really let the kids be themselves and just try to guide them to become good little people. Also, another bonus was that she was potty trained very quickly there. She had been peeing on the potty here and there, but with the teachers help, she got the idea quickly.

Anyway, wish you all the best with your search and your choice.

Hi J.,

We are already starting to look at preschools for our 8 month old for when he turns 18 months old. Why don't you google Montessori and Leport schools in Long Beach and neighboring areas and see what you find that looks good to you? You can also check ratings of these schools by parents who have enrolled their children there. That is what we are doing, and then we are going around NOW to interview them way ahead of his actual start date. That is because there are wait lists.

Good luck to you.
