I am keeping my son home in January from daycare so we can practice our spanish. He is not as fluent as we wish an want the time to improve it. I know it will be a long process and committment on my part. My question is: while I have him at home can anyone suggest to me fun, inexpensive and stimulating places I could take him to besides the regular activities like museums, etc. Anything will help, maybe there is a great undiscovered place few know about. By the way the little man is 4 yerars old. Anything will help.

What can I do next?

If you want to help with Spanish, there is a place in Pearland called A Brain in a Box. It helps kids learn different languages. You can look them up on their website. I don't think it's expensive. I was looking in to this place for my daughter, who is also 4, then we moved. It is geared toward kids, and looks really neat. In Pearland there is also a place called Jump n Jungle, with different kinds of inflatables. They have open jump during the day and it's only $7, parents are free. They have a website too.

Hope this helps.

If you want him to be really fluent and you live in the central part of Houston, why not enroll him in a Spanish pre-school? He could learn from the other children and still have children his age to associate with during the day.

There's a great resource specifically for Houston kid activities called NinaLoca.com. It was started by a couple of moms looking for more things to do with their kids. They even have a list a family-friendly restaurants and also a list of those that have "kids eat free" nights.

You might also check out your local library's schedule as they often have fun things going on. My kids never want to miss story time and my oldest loves the Yoga class there sponsored by Gymboree.

Hope that helps and you have a blast with your son!!
