Hi moms,
Myself, my son and my husband are new to the Denver area. My husband is starting his medical residency here so we relocated from Ann Arbor, MI. We do not know a lot of people here and I would love to meet some other moms with young children. I was wondering if anyone knew of any mom-groups in the area. I am also Catholic and looking into joining a church that has a lot of young families. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

When we lived downtown, we went to Good Shepard. It is a young parish with lots of kids. Now that we are up in Westminster, we go to Nativity of Our Lord. Both have Catholic schools associated with them and I'm sure they have moms groups.

Good luck!

Hi! There is a great Moms group in the Wash Park/Cherry Creek area called Mod Moms - www.modmoms.org. You should check it out for playgroups and other fun Mom activities that aren't so run of the mill. Also in the same area are a couple of churches that have loads of young families and activities. St. Vincent de Paul on University and Most Precious Blood on Colorado Blvd. Not sure how long you will be in the area - but they have wonderful schools too! Welcome to Denver!

Welcome to Denver! My husband is a resident as well (anesthesia) and there is a great group called Denver Spouses of Doctors & Medical Residents. It's organized through meetup.com and people are regularly organizing play dates, trips to the zoo, etc. Most of the people who participate in the group are in your same situation - moved here for residency, have children, and want to meet others. Good Luck!

A great place to look up mommy groups here is by going to meetup.com. You can find all sorts of mommy groups that are near you. This site was a life savor after I had my first son and didn't know very many people. You can find groups that have no fees to join and others may have a small fee of no more that $5.00.
I hope that you find this site helpful.
Take Care,
A.

Hello,

I moved to Denver when I was 12, but was born in Wayne, MI. You will find that there are tons of people from Michigan in Colorado (I think it is the 300+ days of sunshine that draws them in...).

Anyways, we've been in the Denver area for quite a while and have tried a lot of different Churches. We now go to Most Precious Blood, which is just a little bit south of Evans on Colorado Blvd. We think that it is the most accepting, friendly parish around. Father Pat gives great sermons and the community is very warm and welcoming. Our son just finished pre-K at their preschool and will be starting kindergarten at "the big school" in the fall. I highly recommend giving this Church a try. Father Pat is the only priest there, but I think he has a retired priest that takes one Mass a weekend for him, so you may want to check to make sure it is Father Pat for the first Mass you attend. The Mass times are Sat 4:30pm and Sun 7, 9, and 10:45am. Hope that this helps!
Thanks,

K. Stinson
