My son has molluscum contagiosum. The Dr. told me there is nothing that can be done and it will disappear in 6-12 months. It has been a few months and once in a while gets red and irritated and it also has spread. I mixed tea tree oil with olive oil and have been applying that 2 times a day. It seems to be helping but have only been doing that for about 1 week. My husband read to apply benzyl peroxide and it would help get rid of it which seems a little strong but not sure. I spoke with someone at the health food store that mentioned giving him Chick weed capsules and Cell food drops and that may help. Any experience or try anything that might have helped. I would prefer to get rid of it so he can't pass it to any other kids. thanks!

What can I do next?

BOth of my sons had it. The dermatologist prescribed Differin cream and it worked wonderfully. It can actually take up to 5 years to go away on it's own, but the cream helped it to go away in just a couple of months.

I did have the bumps removed by having them cut off. It wasn't bad for me as an adult, it would just depend if your son would tolerate it. Each individual sore needs to be cut open and the liquid drained before they scab over and dissappear.

My daughter started out with about 3 spots. I asked the pediatrician about them and they said to just wait it out. For well over a year, they were just there and nothing happend. Then.... all of the sudden they multiplied and she had dozens of them. I took her to the dermatologist, and they applied blister beetle juice (yes, it's my understanding that this is actually a venom type thing from a blister beetle) to the spots. The application is painless - they just paint it on. However, it a couple of hours, they will have raised blisters, which were pretty uncomfortable. Once they pop, the "infected" skin is gone. Some spots did require a second treatment. There was no scarring, but it was a completely miserable and painful experience for my daughter. I so wish we would have done something when she only had a couple spots, rather than ending up having it multiply. We did also try the differin cream mentioned by another poster, which helped some of the spots. You may want to consult a dermatologist for other options.

I had it!! I had this virus for a year and half. It never spread to my son or my husband. I thought it was eczema at first and itched it and spread it from my belly to my legs. It is a nightmare because when you think it is gone another one pops up. It is so itchy and I froze the really itchy ones off with wart remover. I finally was fed up and bought Poxi-derm online and it seemed to work wonders or the virus just took it natural course but it went away and I haven't had it since. Poxi-derm looks like red ink but you rub it in and it dries white and it really dries out the pimple. I would definitely try the poxi-derm. Best of luck!!

My daughter has it, too. Her derm said anything they can do to get rid of them would be painful (cutting or burning) and then there is still no guarantee they won't come back and/or leave scars from the treatment, so he said let it go away on its own which could take a year or so. Everything I have found on the internet says the "contagiosum" is misleading because it supposedly isn't contagious-- which makes no sense because my understanding is she probably first got it from a swimming pool (her pedictrician said this when I showed her the first 2 bumps that appeared last summer that I thought were regular warts). Basically, to stop it from spreading to the rest of the family, she uses her bath towels ONCE. After each shower, she puts her towel directly into the laundry room. They don't itch or bother her in any way- they are just ugly! She has one on her scalp, so we also got her a hair brush of her own that she keeps in her own room so no one accidently uses it. She's had them since last summer and no one else in the family has gotten it. I wish there was some way to make them go away, but I am not willing to have them burned off at the risk of leaving scars, especially since her derm pretty much said the only way he'd do it is if I insisted.

Both of my boys had them. I used a natural topical liquid called Molluscum No More. It has a strong odor but it worked within a few weeks and we haven't seen any spots since!

My daughter had it when she was about 3 years old, I took her to the dermatologist and he put a liquid on the spots to burn them, she didn't feel anything right at that moment but when she took a shower she felt a little burn. Then couple days after they fell of and that was the end of it. If you decide to do the same my recomendation is to not to cover them let them breath. Good luck!
