My 5 year old daughter has Molluscum Contagiosum. My dr. recommended Compound D. Is there any other medicines or remedies that work better than this?
Hey Ladies wanted to let you know that we are all clear of the Molluscum Contagiosum. My daughter had it on 1 butt cheek and down that same thigh about 25 bumps. So thanks for all the great advice and I wanted to let you know what I did.
I used Dr. Schols "freeze off". I only used the liquid that came in that box not he freeze can. I put the liquid on each bump and it burned it. Then I used the comfrey ointment around each bump so it wouldn't burn the skin around it if the freeze off got on that skin (I didn't do that the first time and it burned her skin). Then I covered each bump with tape (like when you go to the dr. and get blood drawn). I read that these bumps can't grow if they aren't getting air and some people used duck tape but,that seemed to painful. Well then every night she would pull the tape off and you could see them getting smaller. After a while when she would pull the tape off the "white head" would then come off. But, you have to cover it again so it won't spread until it heals.
So I checked it last night and we have 1 bump that is burned and about to come off. I am now just using the comfrey ointment. So thanks so much for your advice and help! Mama source is great!
My daughter had this when she was 4 years old and to tell you the truth, we tried all sorts of creams and nothing. It finally went away by the time she was 6 years old. She has had nothing since and she will be 8 this Sept. I would leave it alone and it should go away by itself. Hope this helps.
My advice would be to go to pediatric dermo for synthetic beetlejuice treatment before it spreads. My 3 year old had it and the treatment cleared it up, but I waited until it had spread over a large percentage of her body. I wish I had nipped it in the bud.
We had a battle with that issue as well. It can get really frustrating and spread from one child to another very easy. We went to a pediatric dermatologist and they treated the molluscum with "bug juice". It is something they must apply at the doctors office so we went in like once a month until they were gone, but it is the only thing that worked. It causes the mulluscum to blister and go away within a few days almost.
In our experience, the best and quickest way is to go to a dermatologist and have them take care of it. It will spread on her and to others that she has bathed/swam with... We got it from a group swim situation and my preschooler gave it to my toddler via the bathtub. They can put this weird salve stuff on it and it will take care of it. I would not wait to long to do it if it were me. I just did not understand what I was dealing with until it got out of hand. It can also come back later even after you get rid of it. It is weird stuff. Good luck!
Weird. I just went to our derm this week and both my boys have it and he told me it will go away on it's own and not to treat it or it could leave scars. I'm going to let it go and see if it does disappear. My one son has a pretty large one on his back and the derm told me if it gets bigger or is itchy he'd try to scrape it off (he's only 2) but that would most likely scar too. Interesting the rest of you were prescribed something.
They can also freeze them, it's very fast and works!
Zymaderm - I found it on the internet. You have to order from the company or you did when we got it a few years ago. The first few my son had left scars but after we started using the Zymaderm they went away faster and did not leave scars! I would get it sooner than later b/c the longer you wait the worse they will get. Our pediatric dermatologist read all of the info I printed for her and she said this was a great option!

My 4 year old has this and our pediatrician said to go to the dermatologist for treatment. They use a medicine that makes a blister on each spot and once the blister pops, the spot heals. I didn't try the Compound D, so I can't tell you advice on that.
My kids had it and it was horrible... when i went to the dermatologist the med they gave us worked on my son not my daughter...it made her skin raw after only 2-3 applications. I used something called Silver cure it was kinda expensive but worked I found it online ...I also popped hers..( would not recommend) she had them all over her body. The silver cure came with soap, body wash, nu skin(with silver), and spray. It was really the silver that was the main ingredient. I know at the drug emporium they have something called colloidal silver spray, you could probably use this in conjunction with ban aid nu skin..or liquid ban-aid. I hope this helps. I know how bad it can be for the little ones.
MC is a virus, so treating it will not make it go away. Treating the blisters will make THEM go away, but it's always possible for more blisters to pop up. It will go away on its own. Yes, the dermatologist can scrape them or put medicine on them but again, that is for the bumps to go away, not for the virus to go away. Kinda like when you get a cold, you can take anti-histamine for congestion, but it only treats the symptoms, not the actual virus. I hope that makes sense.

My son had it years ago and we used a salve called
Comfrey Ointment. It worked like a charm and went away in about a week. He never had another breakout. My neice also used it with the same results. You can get it at Whole Foods, Sprouts or Central Market in the medicine/vitamin aisle. It is all natural and is great for lots of other issues too (cuts, abrasions, bruises, etc.). Good to have around.
Not sure who your pediatrician is but they should have referred you to a pediatric dermatologist. My daughter had this a few years ago, on the bend of her inner arm. She had about 20 or so bumps. A Mild case, She was treated with a 2 step process by the pediatric dermatologist. They said it could come back again for up to a year, and we should come for more treatment if that happens. It is very contagous. It is also very painful after treatment for a few days till it scabs over. I would go to the Dermatologist. We use a Dr. In Grapevine on Grapevine Mills Pkwy/Hwy 26.

We went to a Dermatologist and she gave us Aldara cream(expensive) and she used "beetle juice" ( her name for it)on him. She dabbed a liquid on him and it made a blistered so it would go away. It does take a few months to treat.
It is contagious, so don't go swimming with other kids!
I don't have any personal experience with this type of outbreak but I have heard that a mixture of tea tree oil and colloidal silver is effective in treating this type of viral dermatological infection. If you try it (you can get these items at Sprouts or Whole foods), please let me know how well it works!
Google - Molluscum No More product. I had my 3 yr old taking swim lessons at Emler in Colleyville who got Mollescum from the transfer of the virus from one child to another in their nice warm pools....went to Dr. Fred Ghali (ped. dermatologist) in Grapevine over and over....they put on the bettle juice - 4x at least, barely putting on enough to do anything to the bumps...using the end of a back of a Q-tip stick...never helped...until I told them you need to put a lot more than that to make a difference....they were afraid he would blister and feel uncomfortable, but I was more concerned with getting rid of the bumps and moving on - finding a new swim school....
Look into the Molluscum No More product on-line...it's all natural, not that expensive...great reviews from many many parents. Too bad we wasted so many visits to the dermatologist and they even said it could take a year or more with no results...not the answers I was wanting to here, especially since treatments are not always covered by insurance.

We were referred to a pediatric dermatologist but couldn't get in for a couple of months. We decided to try ZymaDerm while we were waiting, and we were very pleased with the results (just not the smell). It stopped spreading and went away before we ever made it to the dermatologist.
I would check with your pediatrician, but our doctor said it was still ok for our daughter to swim. She just shouldn't share towels, clothes, etc.
I never tried it, but my sister-in-law swears that either clear finger nail glue or nail polish does the trick. I can't remember which one.
