Medela Pump in Style?

Hi!

I am preparing to sell most of my baby gear since my youngest is about to turn one and my husband and I are convinced he will be our last baby. Anyhow, I am wondering if anyone has sold their breast pump and where they did so. My Medela Pump In Style cost me over $300 and is in excellent condition. I'm selling a few things at Divine Consign, but don't know if I should just set something like that out for a ton of people to touch, etc. Also, I don't know what to ask for it. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi Everyone!

Well after reading everyone's advice, I decided to list my pump on Ebay (after, of course, I thoroughly sterilized every part). I had tons of bids and it sold for $120. The person who bought it was thrilled to get a great product at a discounted price. Thanks!

I have read all of the responses to your email M.. I certainly understand your reluctance to sell and your investment just sitting there unused.
I have an unpopular response to your question.
First, no it isn't gross to want to recoup some of your money. I know a lot of women who get second hand pumps and new kits.
Here is the difference in rental and pumps you purchase, the rental pumps use a suction system that doesn't allow for any interchange of body fluids thru tubes or otherwise and can be "sterilized" not just cleaned with alcohol that can still allow some bacteria to regrow.
Medela was SUCCESSFULLY sued in a court of law re this reuse of personal pumps and are required to tell all customers emphatically that you can transfer bacteria and fungus from storage on a used pump to the next person even with new sterile tubes and shields etc. We live in a culture that wants to make all business money grubbing bad guys. Most are not like that underneath, simply trying to cya in a very litigious society.
I am trying to present, although unpopular, a balanced point of view.
So now it is up to you. There is my opinion. (and yes I do sell medela pumps and that has no bearing on my response to you since I also sell the parts)
Sincerely,
K. @ The Nestingplace, Grapevine

Try Ebay. I have a couple of friends who have sold here and got a couple of hundred for their pumps. Good luck.

Sorry but it is not gross to sell the breast pump!!!! I bought a used breast pump and those who have never used one know nothing about it. The pump itself is very good, who ever buys it will just buy a new pump kit which they can buy from a lactation consultant or at the hospital. I paid $100 for my used breast pump but that was 7 years ago and i used it for two kids, the little one is 4 now so i have donated it. I nursed both kids for 1 year and the pump was wonderful to use at work and it can be cleaned, it's sad to see people be ignorant about things they know nothing about. Please give someone else a chance to use a great product at a fraction of the original cost.

I think its totally fine to sell one once its cleaned well. I rented one from the hospital shop 4yrs ago w/ my daughter so if its safe to rent it sure is to sell one then. Good Luck with selling all your stuff!

NOT gross!! Especally the way a Medela is designed. I was given one that was my cousin's. I took it apart down to the motor and cleaned everything with alcohol. Of course I bought all new accessories and tubing.
I guess some who think it is gross are not mechanically inclined enough to perform this simple task!! Either that, or they have been brainwashed by the the companies that make these products. They love folks that ignorant - they make money off of them!!

I definitely DON'T think it's gross if you clean and sterilize it. We by used clothes don't we which touches our body as well? One of the moms definitely made a good point, If we rent one why can't we sell it. I also have a hand held electric pump that I only used once because I wasn't producing enough and had to use an electric one (a rental) and I didn't have a problem with it.

So there is my 2 cents, So I say go for it.
good Luck
