Meat Smell in the Pressure Cooker, Help Me Get Rid of It

I love my big pressure cooker. I do everything in it. My husband likes to use it too, and I have NO problem with that. However, my hun loves Goat meat curry (not sheep). DISGUSTING... he pressure cooks it for a really long time. It gives off a horrible greasy slime when done. When I wash it. It gets clean but that darn GOAT smell stays. I have soaked the rubber ring and that's not the problem, its the pot part itself. I have soaked it in dish soap and once with vinegar. Any other suggestions?

What can I do next?

Yuk. I'd buy a new one. :-) That's just me though.

I would try Borax, first soak it and then scrub the inside with it. It is a great deoderizer. Good luck !!!

Is the interior of your pressure cooker etched and scratched? That could be where the smell is coming from. Fat or other ingredients may be trapped in those cracks and tiny scratches. Do you use good wooden utensils or metal ones?

I would suggest getting two pressure cookers: one for the strong dishes, the curries, and the similarly-flavored foods, and one for milder foods like chicken, etc. Label them and you will avoid cross-contamination of flavors and spices.

Turnips? Just kidding.

I don't know, scary I know. Do you think it is grease based because maybe a soak in hot water and Dawn would do it.

Now for the metal bits there is this stuff called PBW which I think could take the finish off a car, I know it can remove the nonstick finish from a pot. :( Troy puts the rubber bits from his brewing supplies in there so perhaps even the gasket will be okay.
