well, after all your advice and comments i decided that i am just going to wait another week or two and retest with a better test! no more $1 store ones. i have gotten a lot of feedback they dont work. i keep getting pregnancy symptoms so i am about 90% sure i am pregnant! but i just have that feeling i wouldnt get a positive result just yet. with my other two pregnancies i didnt get a positive until 8 weeks!! and even them my results were very faint lines. but were hoping we really are pregnant! and i will let you all know what happens when i do retest! thank you all so much for the advice!! MAMASOURCE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

What can I do next?

You might try another brand of pregnancy test. The dollar store tests are not very sensitive, and didn't register a positive for me until I was almost 7 weeks pregnant. A pricier one (like EPT) is more sensitive to HcG, and will possibly give you an answer sooner. As far as the breastfeeding goes, keep it up as long as you feel like it. In a normal, healthy pregnancy, it won't cause a problem.

If I were you then I would wait another week or so and take another test and another one a week after that. I'm tandem-nursing my daughters which means I nursed all through pregnancy. I did have a couple of periods before getting pregnant, but they were super-long (50-65 days each) so I couldn't use a missed period to tell about pregnancy.

I have a couple of friends who have gotten pregnant before having any periods at all and who nursed through at least the first part of their pregnancies.

If you have any other questions that you think I could help with, feel free to send me a message! :)

Best wishes!

If you're trying to conceive I would stop breastfeeding because my sister conceived and because of the hormones released from breastfeeding she miscarried. The best way to know for sure is to get a blood test done. However, the dollar store tests work, but they only worked for me a good week after I missed my period.
Good luck!

I was still nursing baby #1 when I became preggo with baby #2. Yes, all the symptoms were the same.
I say either get a blood test or wait a little longer before taking another at home test.
Good luck on baby #3. :)

The symptoms are the same when breastfeeding. I am 20 weeks with my 2nd and still nursing my 2.5 year old. The first test test I took was negative too and I was pretty sure I was pregnant. I took another like a week or two later and it was positive. Also, the first one I bought was really cheap.

I am planning on tandem nursing unless my dd wants to stop, but I don't think so, she's an addict.

But I had my period before I got pregnant. But most people's nipples are much more tender when breastfeeding and pregnant, but it still could be a few weeks before you feel it too.

K.,
Hi! Best of luck to you and your husband to make baby #3.
I would get a blood test to make sure one way or the other. At 5 weeks, your hcg levels should be high enough for a home test but a blood test is always much more accurate.
I am in the same boat as you, I thought I was pregnant because I had all the same symptioms as I did when I was pg with my daughter. But because of breastfeeding, I hadnt gotten my period back. I was SURE I was pregnant but a blood test proved that I was not. 4 days later, my period returned. :( My symptoms turned out to be a nasty cold comming on. You may be feeling a bit puney due to the shift in weather. Good luck to you.
