Hi say what-

Most counties have mental health services available on a sliding scale. I suggest you start with a local health department.

You can also contact your insurance...and ask them what providers near you would be covered (or partially covered) for you.

You obviously cannot make your spouse go...but often, if one spouse makes a change (thru therapy?) the whole dynamic can change.

Or...at the least...YOU develop some coping skills and insight...

Best Luck!

Domestic violence shelters can recommend counselors who are familiar with marriage difficulties, even if you are not the victim of domestic violence. They can also steer you to counseling offices that will charge on a sliding scale. Check also with universities that have Psych programs. Before getting their licenses, graduates are often required to work for a year or more. During this time, their fees are often very reasonable and they are working under the supervision of a licensed individual.

There might also be student counselors at OU.

Contact your local County Health Department.

They will know of low or no-cost places you can go. Explain your situation and they will help you find resources.

Best wishes.

Good for you!! I did this for the same reason and it really helped me, but then I got too busy to go and its biting me in the backside now!! So, once you find one don't quit going.

But, anyway, I always start by calling the insurance company and asking what I am eliglible for and where to get it. Sometimes you can get faster service if you take something farther away, but then you have to keep going further away, and that can be a factor in stopping. It usually takes about 6 weeks to get an appointment and then you won't do any real work until week 2 or 3 depending on the set up. But, once you get started it can really be helpful. And, if you don't like something, you think its stupid, or a waste of time, tell the counselor. I did this and he explained why it mattered and then I understood the process so it could help like it was meant to.Some things we didn't do though cause they were stupid!

If the insurance thing doesn't work out, then I would look on Craiglist because they tend to post prices and sliding scale info.

I wish I knew more places that were free or based on income. We used Edwin Fair in Stillwater at one time. They were very good. They do not do marriage counseling but do work with individuals. I think that going to a therapist is a good thing for anyone.

It gives you your own personal sounding board that will ask you questions and let you hear your own answers. That way you can often get to the root if the problems. If it turns out you need to make changes they can often help you do that too. Like a life coach would do perhaps.

I hope you will call the local mental health facilities and try to find one that is based on income. That way you can go and it not be a hardship on your family. It is a good thing to work through problems, one way or the other. You should feel better about yourself when things are done.
