One thing that will take ink out of material is spraying with hairspray and blotting with paper towels...I have used this one several times!! Hopefully it will work on carpet.
Any great ideas on how to get supposedly washable blue marker off of white carpeting? The wet vac did not work.

Have you tried 'Spot Shot'? You can find it almost anywhere, Wal-mart, Ace Hardware...ect. The aerosol type took permanent marker out of cream colored carpeting in my son's bedroom. It a;so comes in a spray bottle for those who'd rather not use the aerosol cans.
Be careful attempting any type of spot removal on your own. If it is very noticeable I would get a professional (Chem Dry is great! Get hold of them thru Home Depot or the phone book). They have guarantees but they are best if you haven't tried five different removal techniques. Sometimes the only remedy left due to burning/bleaching etc from spot removers is replacing with a patch.
Alcohol (isopropyl or rubbing alcohol not the other kind!!) is very good for removing permanent marker or ink. Be aware that it may make the stain bleed, so be ready with a damp cloth to blot if it does. Let the alcohol sit, the shampoo with a carpet shampooer on the plain water setting and then vac it dry. Repeat if necessary, but have found once is usually enough.
I always use Scrubbing Bubbles....you know the stuff you use in your shower.....it smells a bit weird....but it works!!!
Hi C.!
I've tried all three of these suggestions and they DO work. Here's another one, just in case... ;) Make a solution of half hydrogen peroxide and half water. Spray it on the stain, saturate it. You can scrub it with a rag, but then just let it sit. It lifts the stain right out. As mentioned before, it may bleed, be prepared for that and spray the larger area. You have white carpet, so you don't need to worry about bleaching the color out. Although I've used this method on my multi-colored couch and it never bleaches any color out. As I've said, I've tried all the methods mentioned and they all work great. Sometimes you have to use more than one application and sometimes you need to experiment to see which method works best on each inidividual stain. If that happens, make sure the area being treated is dry before moving on to the next method. Good Luck!! And God Bless!!

Nail polish remover has gotten all kinds of marker off of all kinds of surfaces for me.
This is a long shot, but worth trying at least. Whenever my daughter gets stains on her hands from Sharpie Markers (which are usually impossible to get off), plain old baby wipes takes the stain off immediately!
Hi C.,
The Sol-U-Mel is the ideal product. It is my life saver in the house.
It won't ruin your carpeting either. It will just take the marker out. My hubby uses their PreSpot too for cleaning the carpets. Stains that is.

hydrogen peroxied usually does the trick
My Son got permanent marker on our white carpet. All I did was took a baby wipe and gently scrubbed the spot. It came right out.
If you know of anyone who uses Melaleuca products in there home (they are safer for us and the environment) ask for a bit of Solumel. This product has removed permanent marker from clothing, leather car seats and nail polish (red) from very light carpet with little effort! Just dab it on, let it sit a few minutes and then use a damp paer towel to dab it...don;t rub too hard. The stain wil be lifted to the top so you don;t want to rub it back in! Can't promise it will get all the color out depending on the fiber of the carpet and if it was dyed in the process. Plus, other things already used can damper the effects...but it is well worth a try. Solumel is a product I tell anyone with pwts, children or husbands that no house should be without!
Good luck!
