Manicures/pedicures

I never feel like my nails look very nice, even when I try to take care of them. I recently had a pedicure done and really liked it but, it's not something I can afford to keep up with. I'll spend the $$ on my hair, but that's it. Are there any tips anyone can share for doing their own nails, other than just filing and painting??

What can I do next?

Lotion - good lotion - then vaseline - then saran wrap - socks over then go to bed ... wake up shower use lotion again after shower. I have horrible feet so I have to get them done at least once a month or they crack and bleed. I do this frequently, my feet could use it nightly but too much effort honestly. I would also YouTube at home pedicures TONS of suggestions everyone's feet are different.

putting lotion on your feet every night before you go to bed...
making sure you don't walk around bare foot...

I would rather spend money on a mani/pedi than my hair...I can pull my hair back into a pony tail....people see me write with my hands and now with pool time - they see my feet...my hair will come and go - but my feet need to carry me for the rest of my life ....so they take priority over my hair...

Doing your own nails? Go to CVS and purchase one of the little mani kits that they have - usually about $10 and keep them trimmed and cuticles trimmed or pushed back...I don't paint my nails and since I'm a SAHM, I don't put tips or anything over them anymore....but they are trimmed, buffed and rounded....

If you suck at applying nail polish much like I do you can buy the nail polish stickers. They are stickers that you apply on your nails and it looks like a manicure. You can get them at CVS, rite-aid etc. I live in Rockland but work in the bronx a mani and pedi cost me $18.00 and I get it done every two weeks. I can do my own hair getting my nails and toes done is less expensive then my hair so I would rather splurge on mani/pedi.

Whne I stopped working to raise my kids, I could not afford the manicures anymore. I started doing it myself and actually got pretty good at it. I find that the manicures last longer if you use a base coast and a top coat. I used nailtiques as my top coat to keep my nails stonger. I also applied the nailtiques almost every day so the manicure would last.
