My best friend's daughter is drooling like crazy. She is almost eight months old and we know it's because she is teething. My friend is going crazy because she has a zillion of those little bibs and she still has to change her baby's clothes all the time. I would like to get her some bibs as a gift. Any suggestions? TIA.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Mamasource for helping me find the perfect solution!! I ordered two of the Baby Chaleco Bibs (www.babychaleco.com) that one mom recommended and my friend loves them. These bibs are fantastic at keeping the baby dry when she is drooling because she is teething. I ordered the "shoulder sheild" and "dribble buster" styles and the baby can move around and the bib does not bunch up or turn around on her. The Baby Chaleco Bibs are also super cute and soft. My friend has called me 3 times just to thank me and her mom has ordered two more.
Before I bought her the Baby Chaleco bibs I bought her the plastic backed bibs that many of the responses suggested. These plastic bibs did not solve the problem because these bibs flapped and turned around when the baby was moving and she soaked her shoulders and around the edges of these bibs. The Baby Chaleco Bibs solved these problems. Thanks so much for all the responses!

when my first son was teething I had the same problem.
my grand mother made a bib that was a hand towel. now you can find the same type of bibs in the stores,Like wal-mart,
Target, even sears. they work a lil better because you don't have to change then as oftem and they cover more of the clothing.

I wonder if Bendanas would work for her...these are heavy duty bibs made for older people with disabilities like cerebral palsy or stroke who drool due to facial muscular issues, but they absorb a lot! And they look like bandanas rather than bibs. www.bendanas.com

L.,

If you are good at sewing you could pick up some PUL and make a few bibs out of it. The laminate will help keep her dry and it is not bulky like plastic. It is also much easier to wash and does not give a rash like plastic can. My preference is sandwhich PUL since there is a soft poly fabric on both sides of the laminate.

If you are not an avid sewer and need a WAHM to make some for you, I know many women that make them ~ feel free to contact me :).

(My daughter is teething too!)

Hope the info helps.

They have some bibs that are kind of like neoprene (sp?).. the stuff wetsuits are made of.. at Babies R' US. They are GREAT for droolers.

Velcro bibs with the rubber backing were the best!!! Those little thin terry bibs leak right through.

Hello,
I found with my son that the bibs with plastic lining on the back worked best for drooling issues....the front can be wet and catch the drool, but it doesn't go through to the other side and wet his clothes. You then can change the big less often and the clothes stay dry! These can usually be found inexpensively at Target or Walmart in packs of 8 and 10. Good luck!

Some bibs have a plastic liner on the inside but are soft on the outside, they do a good job absorbing the drool but not letting it through to the shirt. Also, don't use fabric softener on the bibs, they'll be more absorbent this way.

My son went through that stage and we just kept a bib on him most of the day but never had to change his clothes. Just keep changing the bib.

See if you can find some plastic bibs so the drool doesn't go through the baby's clothes.

Maybe try the kind that have a plastic liner in the back? My sister bought some of those at Walmart, but I'm not 100% that that's where she found them.

Carter's makes a good line of dribbleproof bibs. Not all of the bibs they make are dribbleproof, though, so you have to make sure that it specifically says so. There are two layers to the bib, with the middle being waterproof, so the front can get soaked in drool, but the back stays dry.

When my twins were teething, I went through a ton of these bibs. My daughter, especially, was a huge drooler from early on (and she's still my messier kid!).

Good luck helping your friend!

Ohhh yeah. We're going through that now, too.
Wal-mart has a pack of 8 bibs for $10, lots of surface area, simply decorated and with the MUST-HAVE plastic on the back. Great deal! Just make sure not to dry them in the dryer, that will melt them.

This happened with my daughter also. I had found a 7 pack of bibs that were white while little says like, I'm happy today. Not sure where I got them but check like Babies R Us or Walmart. Just make sure whatever bibs you do buy that they have the plastic backing so the drool doesn't leak through the bib. Good Luck!!!

Buy your friend some bibs. Try to find the ones that are a little larger than the little ones and maybe with a plastic type backing.
Each baby is different and she just might be getting a couple of teeth in all at once.
This just happens this way sometimes

My two boys did (and are doing) the same thing. Have your friend give her daughter something to gnaw on more often, whether teething biscuits, a teething ring, a wet-then-frozen washcloth, whatever she likes to chew on to ease the gum pain. This will encourage her to naturally swallow some of the excess saliva. Another thing to try is using Baby Orajel for gum pain. It comes in both day and night strength. She just rubs a little on the gums and the pain eases. That might help with the excess drooling as well. My youngest is 20 months and cutting 2 molars and 2 eye teeth right now, and the "waterfall drooling" comes and does with the pain. I just make him more comfortable (Orajel in the day and Tylenol or Motrin at night) and the drooling seems to ease up, which definitely saves on changing shirts (he's outgrown the drool bibs).

hi,
My daughter was a huge drooler and spit up all of the time. We found that the Carters "dribbe happy" bibs NEVER leaked through. They are expensive ($10 for 3) but sometimes you can find them at marshalls or t.J. max for less (they also sell them at babies r us). Like someone else mentioned, carters makes many bibs and only some are the dribble happy so make sure to check the label.
