Hi we're looking to move to hastings or possibly farmington. I'm curious if anyone knows much about these cities. We currently live in south st paul and it has been a very cliquey town and I'm trying my hardest not to go through this again with a new city we move to...although I know it's probably hard to avoid. Also how are the schools in either of these cities?

THANKS!

Hi S.,

I live in Rosemount and I love it in the southern suburbs. I don't know a lot about Hastings but Farmington is quiet just like Rosemount, the crime is very, very low too. Great school district, 196 in certain areas. This area reminds me a lot of my hometown in Iowa.

Welcome to the area!

I just moved to Hastings in January. We formerly lived in St. Paul by Como. My husband is originally from Hastings, so we have a lot of friends and family already, but I really love it. Surprisingly, it was not a hard transition for me to make. I really love the area right now- we live right by walking/ bike paths and there are families out all over. The schools are great and Hastings has a unique blend of the smaller town feel with some new amenities (Cub, Panera, Chipotle). The only drawback is that I work in Mpls. I now work at home 2 days a week, so that helps. I highly recommend Hastings!

Hi. I moved from Maple Grove to Burnsville this past summer and love it down here. I have met a lot of wonderful people in Farmington. My husband and I vowed to never move north of the river again. It is truly wonderful down here.

Hi, I live in Farmington. I have to say we have enjoyed it. We moved here two years ago from Eagan because you can get a lot more house for your money. Unfortunately, 6 months after we moved here, my husband got a new job - in Woodbury. We are moving there in June and have our house up for sale. The actual town of Farmington doesn't have a lot, but they are starting to build a big new retail area very close to where I live. But Apple Valley is only 10 minutes from here and they have everything. Including a Super Target, which is awesome. I live in a neighborhood that couldn't be better. I fought my husband for months about moving because I didnt want to leave my neighbors. We have become very close and you can count on them at anytime to watch your kids or help you out with anything. What ages are your kids? WE have a mix of everything here. If you want to check out our house, go to Coldwell Banker and we are on Embers Avenue in Farmington, 19441. We have 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. My husband is in the construction business (sales) and our home is professionally done with very high quality stuff. My kids are 3 and 1, so school hasn't been an issue yet, but I hear everyone talking and it seems to be good. I do attend an ECFE class with my 3 year old and we love it and have met lots of new moms that way. If you have any other questions, let me know. It is hard to think of moving to a new city where you don't know anyone. I am warming to the idea of Woodbury because I grew up in Stillwater, so it's kind of like moving back home and i'll be close to my parents now. Still, I am so sad to be leaving my friends!

My husband and I moved to Hastings last fall and love it! We have a 16 month old son and find it is a great family town. We wanted to be close enough to the cities without being right in them. That way, we can get all the benefits of being able to go to good theater, museums, etc. without having to constantly worry about traffic and so much crime with a family. I work right in between Hastings and Cottage Grove. Cottage Grove is bigger, but it also seems like a decent place!
