I've heard the factory stuff along the river can be noisy and smelly, but I don't know that for sure...
Hi all,
Just looking for some information on Cottage Grove, MN. We currently live in St. Paul, but we are looking to eventually move to a suburb that is close to the cities. I've noticed that real estate is somewhat cheaper in Cottage Grove than surrounding suburbs, (i.e., Woodbury, Mendota Heights). Any reasons for that? I see that Cottage Grove is part of the Woodbury school district, which I know is an excellent district. Any pros/cons to living in Cottage Grove? Thanks!
Thanks so much for the responses--it's good to hear from people who live there!!

Hi A.,
Cottage Grove is a great place to live. I have lived in this area all my life. The homes are lower in cost because
taxes are not as high as Woodbury. Woodbury is part of the Cottage Grove school district not the other way around.

My brother and two good friends live in CG and they all love it. I don't think any of them have any plans to leave. My brother lives in a nice older neighborhood, a walk away from one of the elementary schools. My friends live in a nice big house in a new development and they love it there. Both are surrounded by other families with children. My brother's kids have kids their age bordering their backyard on all sides, so the neighborhood is just awesome for raising a family. It's a bit too far from the cities for me (we live in Mpls proper), but they are big fans and happy with suburbia. My brother has a son in 2nd grade, and they've been very happy with the school so far.
Best of luck,

p.s. If you'll be commuting to St. Paul or anywhere off 494 or 94, they've just redone hwy 61 so that it's at least four lanes all the way to CG. The speed limit has been increased to 60 for most of 61, and is 65 in other spots. This has helped commuting traffic tremendously.

I've lived in Cottage Grove most of my life and wouldn't even consider leaving. It is a great community with good schools, reasonable housing prices and taxes and a lot of parks. We don't have a whole lot of shopping but Woodbury is five minutes away (depending which part of Cottage Grove you live in). It is a very much a family community.
