My husband, 6 month old son, and I just moved here from Colorado. I'm trying to get unpacked and it's been difficult finding time between my son's naps. I'd like to bring him to day care two or three times a week for a few hours. The other option is to have someone come to our house and watch him while I unpack. This will only be for two weeks or so. What are your suggestions for day care or other resources?

Also, is there a mother's group in Cottage Grove or Woodbury?

Finally, what are your thoughts on pediatricians at HealthEast at Woodwinds? I've heard that Central Pediatrics is also good. Any suggestions on pediatricians?

What can I do next?

I would try to find a babysitter. I live in Woodbury, so if you want a name of one I could give it to you. I love Central Peds. They have Urgent Care there too. The staff is very nice and helpful.

My e-mail address is ____@____.com, if you want a number for a babysitter.

Good luck,
J.

It's going to be difficult to get daycare for that little bit of time. I would ask your neighbors if there are any teenagers in your neighborhood who could come over and watch him while you do your work. They are out of school right now and many are looking to make some money. It should be easy to find one and then you will possibly have a night time sitter also. Dr. Laurel Anderson at Central Pediatrics is very good and very thorough.

New Life Academy in Woodbury has a program in the summer where they offer child care Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Your child can attend as often as you like. It is about $30 for a full day. I am not sure if they still have openings or if they take chjildren that young. But it may be worth calling them to find out. In the Fall they have a program called Mom's Day Away. Your child can attend one day a week. Our daughter really likes it there.

Our daughter 2 1/2 year old daughter sees Amanda Engstrom at Woodwinds. We LOVE her.

Welcome to Minnesota. I live in Cottage Grove. My husband lived in Colorado for a few years when he was in the Air Force. I do not know of any mommy groups. Message me if you would like to chat.

Welcome to the area. I'm not sure if you are in CG or Woodbury, but I'd see if a neighbor or church member knows of a teenager that would be able to help you out. I have one in CG if you are here. I also know of someone who is starting a new daycare - she might be willing to take on a short term gig - not sure.

I think I'm the only person who had a couple of bad experiences with Central Pediatrics.... I hear lots of good things from others, but I haven't been back. We moved to Dr. Angela Parsons at Allina in CG.

Welcome to MN!
I was in your shoes 6 years ago when we moved to Woodbury from Colorado too! I had a 1 yr old and newly pregnant with our second.
I would check with neighbors or maybe references from work for sitters. I do have a neighbor that does at home daycare if you'd like to contact her about the possiblity.
Ask your husband to take your son for a stroll in the evenings or weekends so they can bond while you get more unpacked.
Be sure to look into MOMS Club http://www.momsofwoodbury.com/ and MOPS Mother's of Preschoolers (Woodbury Lutheran or Hope Church in Oakdale) www.mops.org for amazing support. I moved here with no family or friends and 6 yrs later have an amazing group of friends that have become like family through these 2 groups.
My boys see Dr. Paula Kelly at HealthEast at Woodwinds and have met with some of the other dr's there as well. I do recommend the whole group!
I also recommend Parent's Day Out and eventually preschool at Woodbury Preschool (Woodbury United Methodist Church).
Good luck settling into your new home and community!

If your not planning on keeping him in daycare it might be hard to find a temporary spot for him. Also, to just drop in at a daycare center is pretty hard on all children including infants. Maybe, find a neighbor you trust or just do what your second option was and have someone come into your home. I hope your unpacking goes well and you get everything done soon. I know how it is to live in limbo like that, especially with a baby. Hope this helps!
