Can anyone give me suggestions on caterers they have used in the past for bday parties... like Portillo's, Corky's, etc. that may not be too expensive? I will probably be having around 45 to 50 ppl.

Thanks!!

What can I do next?

I found both of those to be pretty pricey. I got my cake from Cosco which was a full sheet for $14.99 and feeds 50. I ordered chicken from Browns (owned by Portillos yes, but bigger price difference) and I got one of those buffet warmers from the store, and purchased bulk roast beef and Au Jus, adn Italian Rolls, and did that on my own. The roast beef was easy since its heat and serve. Cosco or GFS has huge containers of Cole Slaw and Potato Salad at good prices as well. Ive done this for 2 years, and for my daughters 3rd bday this past April did Rosatis Pizza. I think I got 8 or 11 pizzas and paid $150.00 delivered for free. Each Rosatis is different deals on large orders.

I've used Corky's many times in the past. I've always gotten rave reviews on their food especially the chicken. They are very reasonable. I usually order for 35 people with extra chicken for around $140. I just had a family get together last month & ordered the chicken party pack from Jewel. That was $100 for 98 pcs of chicken & 4 6lb sides with hawiian rolls. I made a big pan of mostaciolli & we we're good to go. We had about 45 people including kids. As far as the cake I agree with the previous poster Costco can't be beat. They have great cakes for only $14.99.

I've done Portillo's and been happy with that. Like someone else mentioned, you can just warm up the beef on your own. I've also done Brown's Chicken as well as Brooster's Chicken (there is one in Bolingbrook and Darien that I know of). Both of those offered quite a few options for variety. I recently was at a party that was catered from Maggiano's. Very good but when I looked into it, it was a little pricey. One other option is getting sandwich platters from Potbelly or Jimmy Johns. Very yummy and then you could stock up on side items from Sam's Club or Costco.

Good luck.

I have even done chicken from the local grocery store like Jewel or Berkots. They have a great price and do do full catering also that is incredibly reasonable. My other thing that alot of other moms have also suggested is to use Gordons Food Service (GFS). They will help you plan your meal, calculate quanitities, and basically do the shopping for you! All of their food is very high restaurant quality and you can also then "tweek" it to match the favorite flavors your family loves (sweet, spicey, garlicky etc.) I always get my cakes at Sams Club. They will do special orders and the cakes are always moist and delicious!! Good luck with the party planning!!!!

For my daughter's birthday party I used Brown's Chicken which is owned by Portillos. They had the best prices and their food is decent. I am not sure where you live but I used the Brown's in Tinley off 159th. I had chicken, beef, corn on the cob and pasta. They include table settings and napkins. Their chicken is excellent.

Portillos is great for birthday parties. You can get everything early and have it warmed up slow and without much hassle! We have done the beef (just crock pot it) and then the chicken with sausage dish.. their chopped salad is a huge hit too...

I heard great things from a friend about this place. They deliver the food and she had it for her son's baptism. She got a deal where it was around 3.00 a person.
