Generally, contractors charge by the foot. Some contractors charge more per foot to install it than the price per foot you paid for the materials. I'll give you a good piece of advice about buying laminate flooring. Don't overbuy especially if IKEA has it in stock and you can go back and buy more if you need it. I bought too much and got burned. I bought my flooring from a flooring store called FCE and then had to pay a hefty 35% restocking fee to return what I didn't use (it was in fine print on the back of the receipt and my salesman 'forgot' to tell me about the restocking fee).
I had a friend of mine from College put in my Pergo floors. He's done electrical, minor plumbing and some other stuff my husband has no time to do. I've known him for over 20 years and he started his own Home Improvement business about 10 or 15 years ago. He's very good and very reasonable. He lives in Plainfield but works all over. His name is Craig Smith and his business is called Craig's Home Improvement. You can reach him at ###-###-####. Tell him N. referred you. Good luck!
